- On this episode, I finally have good news in my life, mostly.
This is the story of how my Saab, Ivy, was there on my journey from naïve sheltered idiot, to someone who is at least slightly more capable and worldly. We've survived burglaries, accidents, mechanical failures, and failed numerous tests, but we succeeded in the end.
I learnt to drive at 35 and passed my test - now I love driving
I love your videos, so educational and informative, a voice in a debate that has become polarised.
Thanks for doing them x
Congrats!!!
Great video, as usual, Courtney. The whole thing is such a saga! What a Saab Story! (sorry, how could I resist?) Your perseverance all along in the face of all of that has truly been something to behold. And somehow you've always managed to present it in a humorous light at the same time. Congrats, luv, very proud of you.
Why did I know it was going to be a SAAB?! OMG. WANNA PLAY WITH MY TECH2?💖💖💖 How about a date at the pull-A-part? AND IN GREEN. LOL OMG THAT SHIRT! What a joy.
98?
AN AERO? I have to watch this later
You're an OG.
😂 absolutely love the intro Courtney I never make comments on your videos but you see enough of me in person but a massive Congratulations you are fine and doing fine and yay we got a positive video 😅 not going to hope nothing else will go wrong but as always here for ya mate you just keep on being you mega proud of you mate now to fix my Saab so I can join you I'm focused now!
I went through getting my license about the same time as you, and throughout my lessons, my instructor taught me using this very shitty Hyundai, and I could never feel the clutch, it felt really really hard for me till one day the car got a check engine light, and they had to bring another car for me to learn, and the car they brought was the same car but in mint condition, and I noticed that I could feel the biting point of the clutch, it was just so easy. I realized then that it wasn't the make of the car that was the problem, just the state of the clutch. I think since it was a training car, many students used the clutch wrong and burnt it to the extent that it made it harder for me to feel. I told my instructor that I wanted to enter the driving test with the mint condition car, and they accepted, and thanks to that I didn't have a single hitch. If I had gone into the exam with the bad car, I could have potentially stalled.
Later on, I also learned more about clutch and throttle systems: For example, your Saab is most likely has a hydraulic clutch, which makes it much smoother and easier to press compared to drive by cable. Since it is also a 90s car, it doesn't have drive-by-wire (electronic throttle), which means it compensates by having a higher idle speed than modern cars which can press the gas for you as you release the clutch so as to avoid stalls and hence don't require that high of an idle speed.
I am really happy for you, after all that you went through with your car, I am glad the result is you gaining vitality. To me, your journey was less about driving and more about you as a person growing. It all felt allegorical to me, you buying a car before getting a license, your problems fixing her up, the car you chose, why you chose it, the way it got stolen/damaged, your issues passing the test, your decisions in facing up to the task, deciding on whether to give up, how your feelings for the car relate to your alienation from your emotions. It was almost as though the entire thing was about you getting your virility back. The fact that you got run over, the way that might impact your image of cars further instantiates the way cars signify virility and power, and how getting your license gives you that power, having a 1.4 ton tank that can move 4 times faster than you in your bike makes one feel subconsciously strong, this is why a lot of people prefer big SUVs and all, it is that unconscious push towards power. Also, cars are in a way like the hellenic god of hermes signifying speed, herald, and communication, which is also fitting as hermes is also the god of borders which relates to your journey with transitioning and detransitioning, being in that flux of feminity and masculinity. Overall, you may not recognize these aspects in your own life, but to me, that is what makes me watch your videos to some extent. It is just fascinating how it all comes together, these symbols and facts of your life.
Now that this chapter is over however, I wonder what will be the next avenue of your life. My guess would be loneliness. Behind all your videos I sense a level of loneliness, a romantic form of it at that. I sense it is compensated through your connection to hobbies and objects such as ivy, but eventually I feel that it will feel inadequate, but that is just my guess, I am often wrong. Irregardless, I'll be here to observe.
What a lovely observant comment, thank you.
That's interesting about the Saab clutches, guess I'll be sticking to Saabs then.
I think Ivy was a kind of spirit guide on my journey away from transsexuality and into my new life.
You're right, I am profoundly lonely, so my next two goals: 1. Traveling, 2. Losing my virginity.
Everyhrinf is worth it
Yay, way to go!
I’m 34 and still need to schedule my permit text :x
Congratulations! It's nice to hear some good news. I relate, I'm in the process of getting my driver's license at somewhat later than my peers. Btw, did you draw the video thumbnail?
Thanks. And yes, I drew the thumbnail, here it is:

Know this is completely irrelevant, but what are youre thoughts on metal gear solid delta reveal, also congrats on getting your license
I'm excited, it seems like a dream come true that Konami is finally acknowledging the thing that put them on the map. Metal Gear is now being preserved and shared with a whole new generation. No, I doubt it will ever surpass the original Snake Eater, but they are making the originals available on current platforms anyway.
@@CourtneyCoulson I can finally experience the originals for the first time
Oh wow! You're in for a thrill.
@@CourtneyCoulson was that a mgs3 pun
Obviously
