Why The Anime Ending Changes Everything For Attack On Titan

  • Attack on Titan has ended, and I was bracing myself for a gigantic uproar from the entire community. However... after a few days, all was calm. Initially I was very confused, so I took to myself to watch the episode and found myself pleasantly surprised. MAPPA, while not going completely anime original, did make some very needed changes in the show that make the ending much better than it was. One of these changes was completely redoing Eren and Armin's final conversation, which I think was absolutely the right call. Today, I'll dive into the differences and changes between the anime and manga for Attack on Titan, and why these edits help the ending feel strong.

The dialogue changes were great, but I think what really knocked out was the park was the voice acting.
Yuki Kaji especially really captured Eren's grief and bitterness towards his predicament, even more so when he's the person that ended up trapping himself with his thirst for freedom in the first place.
Eren was never just this diabolical mastermind that can tell exactly what was going to happen, he became a broken man, ashamed of his sins and his own unstoppable lust for his desires, Desperate for any escape till the end. And yet when death is eminent and his end is near, he wishes to live to be with friends and family no matter how contradictory it is, because he's a human being, like the rest of us, and despite realizing what has to happen to get the best of the situation, to even try to somewhat make up for what he has done, that intrusive part of him still yearns for selfish things, to stay alive and be with others.
I think Yuki kaiji really showed that side of Eren well in the anime, and honestly, kind of changed my mind on the ending as a whole.

I'm pretty sure that Isayama was responsible for most of the changes in the anime. He did say he couldn't get his thoughts across very well, and he regretted writing it in the way that he did.

Didn’t Eren say he did try to change the outcome though? So a small part of him must’ve not wanted to do it. I’m pretty sure he said every time he tried to change it, it would always turn out the same anyways.

I had only seen the anime for AoT so I was wondering what was supposed to be so bad about the ending but now I get it. Granted I had lost a lot of interest in the series due to the wack release schedule, but that ain't the series fault.

I only kept reading the manga because I couldn't believe the direction it was taking, and I was SO mad about that whole armin & eren conversation (and YMIR but alas, that's the worst part of it). I am never gonna touch this series again, but I'm happy to know through your channel that the anime tried it's best so it wasn't so bad. Good gossip, thanks!

Isayama himself rewrote the script. (Kotaku article Nov. 6) We don't know exactly how much is his work, but I doubt MAPPA rewrote such a critical scene. There's no way they would want to take on that sort of blame in case it turned out poorly.

yiure saying that eren would have kept going to kill 100% of humanity outside the walls but that can't be true because Eren from the start already knew how things would end. He saw that he would kill 80% and die and that his friends would be seen as heroes for killing him. There's no way that wasn't all intended. If anything, he is lying to armin in their conversation further making himself out to be the villain so that armin and the others wont question it and will become the heroes.
Can Eren even defy the future? So he could never have killed more than 80%

After the manga ended, I did not hold Aot in high regard for awhile. I could only think about how much better it would’ve been but the anime’s ending really put my dislike for Aot to rest. This version of Aot’s ending really made me happy to be a Attack on Titan fan again.

@@supremeleaderfrancisco9062 It's just elaborated and cuts out the "Thank you for being a mass murderer for our sake" and replaces it with something comparatively better. A lot of people backlashed at Eren for not going 100% so this ending decided to give reason to that = It was always meant to be 80% no matter how many times I tried. It does state that if any future wars were to break out, both Eldia and the world will have equal manpower so there will be no one sided wars. That was a little dumb use of the Rumbling.
The Armin and Eren scene reaches you to an emotional level but it doesn't fix much since that fact remains, that everything was already predetermined and everything we've seen Eren do: From the Liberio Attack to manipulating his father, then tearing his thumb off while breaking the chains to reach Ymir...all that desperation...it was all just....an act? That he was just stupid with too much power?
Maybe try binge watching AOT from start to finish since it has ended so that you have everything in place by the time you see the ending. The yearly gaps for Season 4 made people lose a lot of touch

@@racool911 Endings can never please everyone but I do believe that if Ymir's plot was handled better instead of that "Love" thing and "Only Ymir Knows"...the ending could have been more acceptable. It's hard to see how Ymir waited 2000 years to see Mikasa kill Eren because that is just....objectively dumb and totally deviated from the themes of the show. If all we got to know about Ymir in the end is "Only Ymir knows..." then it shouldn't have been brought up. The reason for her being free through Eren was already a much SOLID reason that was aligning with the story.

I too at first thought Eren's character was assassinated and dumped naked in a dumpster with blood and semen and all over it. But think for a second. The scene where Eren screams his love for Mikasa (the feelings had been foreshadowed, just not well enough unfortunately), is an intimate scene with his best buddy from childhood, not on a big stage with millions watching (even though it feels like that because we're all watching it on screen). It's like saying Socrates is no longer a great philosopher just because someone describes him taking a shit. In the eyes of the rest of the world, Eren will always remain either a supreme god or the most evil devil humanity has known. Only his friends will know the real Eren, and only his closest friends, Mikasa and Armin, will ever know the deepest of his desires and weaknesses.

He Literally thinks of her as nothing more than an Overly clingy sister. The fact that the fake Romance is the most important part to you Freaks shows You are not Real Aot fans but crazy shippers
