Hi John, there are quite a few errors in this - see below. Add them to the video description if it helps improve the content. Weirdly, working through your video with the rulebooks beside me helped me much more than the tutorials on other channels, so thanks for that : ) I'm not trying to score points or embarass you so I'll delete this comment once you've acknowledged it. This game is a real headache to learn at times, but it has some really ingenious parts to it which make me think it'll eventually all come together and be worth the effort. Even the Advanced Battle Rules are packed with enough detail to be an entirely different game. Your video quality is excellent too btw. Best wishes, Steve The Early or Late at 29:21 would remove the segment at the location of the search, and then the entire trajectory on one side of that location, rather than a single trajectory segment (p51 Rule Book, p3 Solo Scenarios) At 24:30 you say that the Trajectory isn't a Task Force. The Trajectory sticks and the Stations (the cylinders) both represent the Task Force(s) shown in the Task Force Display. The Station (cylinder) is a Task Force in a known location, the Trajectory is a Task Force in a series of unknown locations represented by the sticks. If it was a viable air strike, the Convoy could have coordinated. The Coordination would have increased the Trajectory Total (a detriment) but also given you a +2 DR modifer, and allowed the Convoy Trajectory to remove segments during the Time Lapse. The Air Strike would also have hd a +1 DR modifier being 2 hexes away Also, at 24:20, resolving the British Actions, as mentioned already by @stuartauld3193 (just noticed), the scenario is set in 1939 and that air base doesn't exist until 1940. At 33:38, the air strike launch location would only add a +1 modifier (Air Support p45), rather than affect the Trajectory Total At 34:17, Air Support on the Naval Search is only the DR modifier, rather than a change to the Trajectory Total At 39:04 you should place an Intel Marker on the German Trajectory segment that's in the same location as the Station you've just discovered At 39:16 you missed a Time Lapse before the Sieze Initiative Again, the Early or Late at 42:58 would remove the segment at the search location, and then would have allowed you to remove the entire northern part of that trajectory, rather than a single segment
I know this is an older video but this is one of the best demonstrations of this game I’ve seen. I’m on the fence about this game but you’ve done an excellent job of tempting me. Thank you for putting this together.
Great content, very helpful and clear and i think you've just sold me the game. Thank you so much for sharing. Take care out there and have fun wherever and whomever your with.
This one has been on my radar for some time while it was OOP. I was debating between this and the newly released Mr. President by GMT. I don't have room (mental space) for both GMT games. I ended up pre-ordering Mr. President from GameNerdz.
Mr. President looks very interesting but extremely intimidating with the playtime and the rule set. I will be interested in your comments on it when you get it to the table.
Very good. I could never understand why GMT made rules in such an antiquated way. I hope they can figure out how to change their approach, but the recent COIN games that I have seen have still be very much like the usual.
@@JohnLaRuffa Jerry White designed "Skies above Britain" and "Atlantic Chase". All of his rulebooks are like this - very long but easily digestible, just like Atlantic Chase. The reason why GMT rulebooks are so different is because they are just the publisher - it's up to the designer to write the rules, so they write the rules in different ways - GMT I think mostly just edits and give them suggestions, etc. EDIT: : What gillesderais3848 said! Somehow missed seeing that until after I added my bit. :)
I agree GMT rulebook and lack of transparent aides adds another layer of difficulty. It's great to hear they are improving their ruleset. Unfortunately, this isn't my style of game. Thanks for your review.
This game is certainly not a style that everyone would enjoy. While it probably has more broad appeal than some of the more traditional GMT offerings, it is still very niche.
Another great review. I like historical war board games. Is the weight rating of 3.35 on BGG realistic? Think I wanna get this one. BTW, I already own kanabn EV of your review and love it. Any suggestions on a 2nd Lacerda to buy for solo play. I'm not a fan of beat your own score, and got rid of a Feast for Odin after about 20 plays for that reason.
I really enjoy Weather Machine, but it was very hard to learn and took a long time to play without making mistakes. I have yet to come close to winning it. Lisboa is also a very good solo experience in my opinion. As for the weight on Atlantic Chase, I think that is realistic. After repeated plays, it will feel like a 3.35 for sure and I think that is because the methods that you have to execute your strategy become less foggy and more concrete vs. some other games that are steeped in complexity and never seem to clear up.

Wow! So many mistakes on my part! There is so much here, I think I will just find a way to pin your corrections.

Great review! Thank you. How does it work in solo mode? Does it have a good flow or is it complex?
I would say it is fairly complex but it does flow fine. There is a LOT of referencing tables to know how the bot will act.
@@JohnLaRuffa Thank you!
No airbase in Newfoundland.

Skies Above Britain is another recent example of excellent GMT rulebooks that get one playing quickly. 😄

@@JohnLaRuffa Both Skies and Atlantic Chase are Jeremy White games, he's probably the culprit for the excellent rule books.

Think it's more down to the designer, not GMT.

Decidedly not a game for me - I would never even make it through the rulebook - but I appreciate the video nonetheless. Thank you, John!
Avoid like the plague then 🙃
