Been riding and racing 40 years . Started with lineman boots in the 1970's and have had every major boot brand , generally upper end models . The SG10 is the best for me . I ride off road - Enduro , HS , dual sport and public trails at a B rider level . Took a few rides to get good pedal feel with SG-10's. Been running my SG10's for 10 years and they are finally worn out but never any failures . I'm going with SG-10's again .
Great review. I find that when shopping for boots using EU sizes is often more accurate. I can be anywhere from 9.5 to 11 in US sizes, but a consistent 44.5 EU.

Have probably 80 hours on my fastbacks in hare scramble, single track, and trail riding.. no complaints. Had a bad sprain though casing a jump on the MX track. Going to pick up some SG12's now, thanks
@@kee7678 I wear a size 11 usually and had fastback in a 10. I still have them and like the boots. But for Moto I wear my sg12s now. I'm a MX noob so I think the fault was mainly on me not the boot for casing the jump so bad lol

loving my fastbacks they have been amazing ill be getting a second pair but going sg12 next for sure build quality is amazing and the fit has been perfect for me
I’ve had tech 10’a and now SG12’s. Tech 10’s (good/used) where gone in 2 years, sg12’s (good/used) are still great shape, and stay cleaner as well. I started with tech 10’s and overjumped a lot with them and always hurt something, my back, ankle, anything. SG12’s on the other hand, I had a bad case where I overjumped wayyyyy to far right into the corner, guess what, nothing. You feel super human😂. In my size, 45/46 the tech 10’s where a lot clumsier and had a bad feel for the pegs and shifting in general. The SG12’s for filled that, partly because of not having an inner boot, but also because they just feel slimmer on your foot. And at last, I have never accidentally shifted or braked, instead I started using using the rear brake more and also down shifting in the air because I now feel the click so I really know I shifted. Great review! Need more of this!

I’m a UK 8.5/9 (US 9.5/10) with feet on the wider side. A UK9 fits perfectly (US 10) - I only wear ‘thick’ socks - not overly thick just normal thick socks. So to me they run true to size, rather than on the larger side. No extra slop at all. Just for info for people.
Had alpinestars 8 couldn't feel the bike or foot pegs. Got the sg 12s and they are so much better. I can grip the bike and feel what I need to. Plus they are much more durable.

I own the exact same model SG12 on the video and love them. I put Trial soles on it for hard enduro. Definitly a must have. But the price hurts a lot. I also ride Crossfire 3 at work but not as comfortable as the SG12 for me. Too stiff on the soles.
Wish I had watch this video before ordering my size 10 Fastback. I go with 9-1/2 size shoes and I am loose inside size 10 that is more like a size 11 if you ask me. There sizes are UK standards I think.
Great boot compare, but what about toe protection? I’m considering moving away from A* boots because I’m getting bruised toes every time my foot smacks a rock or stump (Tech 7). Need a stiff toe box.
good protection off road boot but to be used as an Adventure touring boot , KTM 890R , old guy who has broken the right ankle 2times now wanting better protection than the Alpinestar adv boots like the Corozal or Belize offer
Can anyone verify that the height of the toe box is taller on the Gaerne than the Alpinestars.....as I had an old pair of AXO boots, very similar to Gaerne and now have Alpinestars (although the 5), and have had trouble with shifting the bike; it appears the toe box is taller with less feel.
They are wider. I've wore and raced the SG10 for years and had to wear my Tech 7 to race last weekend because of the toe cap came off. It was showing a separation and I didn't want to hurt them any farther. I use the T7 on Tour of Idaho and GRIT challenges because they are the waterproof version for those conditions. Anyway, the toe box is taller and narrower on the T7. I had trouble slipping under the shifter, and when I raised it, it was too high and I had to lift my foot much higher to downshift. I had to put it back and just dealt with getting under the shifter. The big difference, and most noticeable was the width. The T7 feels very comfortable but if you look down at them you will see what I'm talking about. The sole is narrow and I missed the brake pedal several times, blowing a couple turns bad. I'm sure if I wore the T7 more and the muscle memory developed, I could race with them just fine, many many do. But for your question, this is how I know the SG10 is wider at the toe box on the inside and outside.

A pretty unprofessional review. Here is why: in the very beginning, you showed a contour of your foot and provided its measurements. So, I was hoping that you will also show the shape of the boots as they seem from the above. Bu you did not! All boots have different shapes - mostly, weird ones. Most of them are narrow. But the worst thing is that they are narrow in the middle. Most boots are also made for flat feet. Unfortunately, my local Cycle Gear store doesn't carry Gaerne boots, so I can't just go to a store and try them on or at least look at their shape. They have AllStar, Fox and O'Neal, but these are all weird shapes and too narrow. I ordered SIDI X-3, and these turned out to be too narrow in the middle of the foot and made for flat feet. You don't seem to understand the importance of the shape of a boot. You never talk about it, which means that you have rather narrow and rather flat feet, like most Americans who are not used to walking and move in a car all their life. Voting down.

With the ergonomics of how dirt bike boots are made, if you have a weird foot shape and a big arch, you should already know that you need insoles that accommodate your foot shape in order to fit into a ‘generic’ boot. With that said, get yourself a set of insoles and choose the size that accommodates this. Don’t hate on a video if you a.) don’t listen, and b.) don’t educate yourself and do what you can yourself to resolve your own strange foot shape/arch. Boots and shoes in general are all made to fit most people, not the 5% of people such as yourself with odd shaped feet. If I were you I’d get a pair of insoles made/ purchased for the shape of your feet and take them to the shop and put them in a boot to see what fits best. whow..so sthe Fastbacks didn't protect your foot that much? how was sizing. I wear mostly 11 1/2 shoes..and wondering 11 or 12 in the Fastbacks?

By having the stitched sole, all three have a very rigid toe box. The SG-12 is the most but the 10 and FB are solid as well, more solid than Tech 7s.
Honestly I got some sidi atojos and they have really stiff toe boxes

Toe caps on the newer SG12 are cheap metal, keep losing them. The little screws are garbage too. Otherwise love these boots.

Lift your your shifter, I had the same problem with sg12 compared to a tech 10 astars
it's not. SG12, Fastback, Tech7 here. Astars have the taller toe box. But it is narrow inside.

That is a welted sole. It is more durable as the sole is sewn on. And the metal for cap is protective. Function is more important than aesthetics.

Seems like the Astar comparable boot is the Tech 8. I wonder how these compare to the 8.
