Seriously, I get jealous! All of them are so incredible extraordinary talented. Wish I had enough time to practise more and more. :( Anyways, always a great joy to watch these artist. May god bless them all! Love and Peace! Thanks a lot for sharing!
If you are like me it doesn't matter how much you time you get to spend on it, I think most of these folk started when they were 2 weeks old, but it's steal fun to try,, Thxs,gb
Great to see George Shuffler who invented "crosspicking" as know it, out of necessity! And also his star pupil, the great late great James Alan Shelton, - only player I know who could play tune he tune, solo and cross picked right through, RIP to them both! Thanks for another great video, Peace.
One of the guilty pleasures of this series is checking out so many gorgeous guitars, old and new -- and a surprising number of them weren't made in Nazareth. (No knock on Martins of course; I just enjoying seeing such a wide variety of other makers.)
Happy traum & Mark O'Conner c. 1976 // love this // MY FAVES = David Rawlins followded by Dave Warner in his mom's basement - give him a road gig to git out! REASON: Understand the tunes & & && they play to the tempo of the song as if someone will jump in to sing it.
Toon I was replying to George Mercer who obviously didn't read the title. I realize you understand what you have done. I won't reply for you going forward.
Okay y'all: 3:12 What's this tune Abby Hartley is playing? I thought "Billy in the Lowground," but in key of G? Then I started thinking, there are a lot of fiddle tunes with this chordal structure, but I never did figure out the name of the tune. Is she playing "Billy" in an alternate key? Or whut? It isn't "Rights of Man," is it?
Agree but you can see it is a mix of fingerpicking and flatpicking. It is not forbidden to flatpick with a thumbpick. With hybride picking like Clarence did its also a way of fingerpicking. And Clarence was one of the best flatpickers...
Brent Mason, maybe the best tele player in Nashville, does not belong in this video. He is NOT a flatpicker. Brent uses a thumbpick and his index finger - same as his tele style. No knock on Brent - just that he's not flatpicking.
Yes, its the same issue that i have with Tommy Emmanuel...i give him the credits because some of the flatpickers want him into the video. Don't forget that you can fine flatpicking with the tumbpick and 2 fingers (hybride picking)
Nice compilation.....but neither Brent Mason nor Dave Rawlings belong on this collection....neither are picking bluegrass style. Both are monster players in their own right.....Brent a tele master and Rawlings, a unique hybrid picker and perfect compliment to Gillian....but, as I said, neither are picking bluegrass here.
@@ToondeCorte I meant no disrespect to Wayne. He can pick with the best of 'em, but I'm a little strict in my assertion... a flatpicker to flat pick needs to have a loose pick between index finger and thumb and the ability to contol it, but I acknowledge difference of opinion... BUT you mentioned Tommy Emmanuel.... there ain't NO WAY or NO HOW **EVER** would I include him as a "Bluegrass" flatpicker...in any way shape or form. He just don't belong.

Glad to see JP finally make one of these lists. They should have went further into that video. Just spectacular!!!!!
Thanks, Toon. It’s surprising to see myself in amongst these amazing guitarists, but I very much appreciate the compliment.
You're welcome Dave
You sounded great on that song, Dave. Nice work

Mostly dreadnoughts though.
Nice video of some great picking!!!!!!!!!!
Still watching 2 years later. All kinds of scrumptious.
These videos are lots of fun! Thanks for including 2 of my suggestions this time.
I love your videos. I. love discovering great pickers that I've never heard of.
I'd suggest adding Libby Lindblom from Headin' Home Bluegrass to the next video!
Check out this video at 2:28 or 32:15

LOL Me and Junior Blankenship have gotten so sloppy drunk together on many different occasions.
thank you, these are great
Thanks. What a treat!
Thanks to all the flatpickers...
fantastic rigjht hand . thnk u.
J.P. Cormier here is playing some great celtic stuff but he can shred that Bluegrass stuff like nobody's business.....
Yay! 4th installment! Thank you!
AGREED !!!!!!! :)
me three
Banjo Ben Clark! 👌
Brent Mason...HELL YEAH
TYLER GRANT! Hell yah!!
Mike Marshall & Grant Gordy...a little close to the outer edge of the bluegrass box...
Another great video with great flatpickers but you forgot GARY COOK 2 time national flatpick champ. check out winfield jam El Cumbanchero. Thanks
Have a list...perhaps next video.
@@ToondeCorte I'm sure it's a huge task to compile these vids but Gary is one of the best and deserves to be included thank you.
@@ToondeCorte Appreciate the hard work.
Toon de Corte I second this nomination. The guy can play the crap out of the guitar.
Yes, i go for it if there is good material.
Robbie Fulks should also be considered
Jerry Reed, Randy Greer, David Pendley, Maury Muehleisen
Ooh, cool, some of my favorite guitarists on this. Don't remember did you already cover Zeb Snyder and Daniel Thrailkill?
Thanks...
Add Zane Fairchild to the video, has amazing clarity as well as playing many different genres.
Thanks...
Looking for Bill Napier. Maybe on #5
Brett Mason got that thang.....
Zane Fairchild, Scott Miller
When are you going to do another flat picking video?
Work on it...
Marty Stuart for Part 5 please! ;)
Hoop i can find some flatpicking, Martin plays most of the time mandolin and today electric on the stringbender from Clarence.
@@ToondeCorte Search for him playing Soldiers Joy & Black Mountain Rag in a Medley. There are a few recordings of on TH-cam :)
Thanks...
Glen tolbert was an amazing flat picker.
Thanks...
Ever hear of Smiley Bates or Eddy Poirer?
No, will look for them...
@@ToondeCorte They are both Canadian. I think Eddie Poirer is from Quebec.
@@Beverlys-Hillbilly New Brunswick, actually. He's a multi-instrument legend in those parts.
Don Reno needs to be in these lists. And very high up.
Don reno deserves a spot
Work on it...

That’s so nice but that’s not Dave’s mom’s basement; it’s his own. 😉 Signed, Dave’s wife 😁
You forgot James Stiltner again......also, Ray Cline & Pudge Warfield
Must look for good shots, the list of great players is big. Thanks and perhaps the next video...
Toon de Corte th-cam.com/video/0bIC2VtZ2TA/w-d-xo.html
Thanks, this helps me a lot...see the next video (1/5)
Nina Gerber !
Not bluegrass. She did some great work with Kate Wolf.
It's actually J.P. Cormier (with an "r").
Thanks, i did change the name in the list, into the video i will check if its possible.
It's J.P. Cormier, not Comier and he's a pickin' legend!
Thanks, will try to change this.
Roy Clark, Glen Campbell, Vince Gill ... Esteban !
Esteban?? You may be watching too many infomercials Paul.
@@MrZiggy-pm9rz lol ... That one was just for laughs .... Cheers !
A lot of pickers in this, That aren't bluegrass. While leaving out Marty Stuart and Vince Gill and others like them.
... and Robbie Fulks and Kenny Vaughan
GREAT PICKING...TONY RICE SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE....BUT YOU'VE GOT ALOT OF GREAT PICKERS OUT THERE ..
Look all videos, the first one for Tony
"4/4" = FOURTH OF FOUR VIDEOS.....
See them all 1/4...2/4..3/4...4/4
Toon I was replying to George Mercer who obviously didn't read the title. I realize you understand what you have done. I won't reply for you going forward.
I change the titles...thanks
Not having Reggie Harris on this list is like leaving Michael Jordan off the best
basketball player list.
Thanks, next video...

may i say that you forgot TONY RICE..?

Agree Dennis, they play another style. But also Tommy Emmanuel plays another style but can also play very good Bluegrass. They play it all...
I'll give you a pass calling Wayne Henderson a "flatpicker"
Wayne plays flatpicking whit his tumbpick, not always fingerpicking. The same as Tommy Emmanuel.
