    Nice group of pickers! Tommy Emmanuel is so good at playing pick style with a thumb pick that when he plays pick style with a flat pick I wonder which is better.

    need to check out Mitch Corbin from Sulphur LA. sometime in the 1970's he won the national guitar and mandolin picking contest in winfield KS. He Won both in the same year,
    as far as i know he is the only one to ever do so.

    I realling enjoyed these. And I picked up so new names to listen to. I agree with the most recent post; still not a believer faster is better. I will take the clear and melodic pickers everytime. Bursts of speed are good showmanship, but my heart lies with a melody.

    Fast doesn’t equal great. It gets so fast and fancy that the song itself is unrecognizable

    After listening to all 5 parts I have concluded that faster is not better. My favorite was Clarence White playing I am a Pilgrim.

      i agree. maybe its not what we play, but what we dont play? i have always thought less is more and faster isnt necessarily better, its jst faster

      I'm bored with the guitar slingers. Want to lose your audience just play fast for too long and they will be gone.lets get back to real music.

      That wasn't "I am a Pilgrim" although there is a video of him playing that tune. On video 1 he is playing "Listen to the Mockingbird"

    While I am a huge fan of Brad Paisley and Tommy Emmanuel, I wouldn't put them in this genre. Roberto Dalla Vecchia and Yiannis Gougourelas are two I would like to see.

    Great video!!!! The late Jimmy Arnold truly deserves to be added although it may be hard to find some good footage of him in his best form.

      @@rickyjustice3748 Thank you so much for finding that!!!! I had seen several songs from that VHS recording, but never that particular one. There's a lot of footage of him smoking a banjo, but I had only been able to find mostly audio clips of his excellent guitar skills. I've been playing banjo for 25yrs & he really inspired a lot of my early learning. Some of his banjo sequences still amaze me to this day!!!! He was a very gifted musician!!

    Include Zane Fairchild in the videos. He has amazing clarity and technique in many genres not just Bluegrass

    I saw all five parts and many who needed to be there were not .Some who were on it was not worthy of the name "Bluegrass".
    Doc Watson along with Clarence White had clear and cleanest tone of all five parts.
    Fastest is not better, learn from these two masters.

    Vince Gill is not known for bluegrass flatpicking, he is best known for his telly Strat picking. Same with Phil and Tommy Emmanuel-they are not known as Bluegrass greats.

Toon has placed the performers and each song title (where known) under *each* of his 5 videos. Just scroll down a little bit under each of the 5 to see the list for that particular video.

    Richard Smith doesn't often do pure flatpicking as he tends to mix it up with fingerstyle but he can certainly flatpick with the best of 'em - using a thumbpick! Here's an example on nylon strings with his Hot Club Of Nashville th-cam.com/video/ghCcFI6fAoU/w-d-xo.html

      Richard is one of the best players in the world. The reason why I did not select him is because he is a fingerpicker and not a flatpicker. Did not find any video with a flatpicking style. Love also his gipsy style...

    So many of these guys sound the same. I think when you play fast ,you lose alot of tone. I wish some of these guys and gals would slow down a little.

    Most of these players seem to have pushed themselves beyond their own competence.... sacrificing music for some kind of sensation which can only impress the impressionable. No doubt there's a market for that kind of thing if that cooks your goose...a bit like drag racing. In many cases it comes across as a form of abuse .
