    Those are heat tabs. They make different ranges of them, and when the part reaches said temperature, the center blows out on them. They work really well, cause someone can't return them to you and say they were a bad head, because if the tab is blown, you know it was their fault for damaging them. It would be a good idea for you to do on the heads that you sell.

      Kind of like the freeze plugs on rebuilt engines,,, they use freeze plugs with a center hole filled with a temp sensitive epoxy... if the epoxy melts off YOU RAN IT HOT, WARRANTY GONe.

    Happy New Year! I just bought a set of these heads for my Gen 6 502, for the combustion chamber volume and the intake valve over other heads. The deck surface on mine definitely look a lot better than that set, unless the camera makes it look worse. I spoke to the woman at Flotek and she told me they finished the heads with American parts. I’m building mine for a Motorhome, so I’m looking for low end torque, hopefully close to 575-600 ft lbs, we will see

    I bought a Scat 25 years ago, still have it today, a little maintenance it will last. Throw some concrete blocks under it to save yourself from bending over. Thanks for the videos.

    Thank you so much for this review- I was really curious about these heads. It's hard to ignore prices that low with flow claims like those.

    If I was going to use that head with a smaller bore, I would be tempted move the head laterally on the block using moroso offset dowels

    Thanks man, I have those on a 540 ordered a sniper Jr intake 4500 flange. Hoping motor will make 700/700, more importantly rate of rev should be nuts. Basically a crazy responsive big block. Can't wait for ported reviews, and could u do the flotek 315s as well!! Thanks Eric your videos are 👍

    Thanks for sharing the Christmas video reviewing the older detail on some heads. There was a sheet on some lt1 heads and helped me a bunch. Porting some myself on my channel and now have something to compare my measurements to.
    Would love to see another video with more in on gen2 lt1 castings.

    Is it possible that the only reason the advertised flow numbers might be different simply from the atmospheric conditions that were present when they flowed them vs whatever the conditions are when you flow it. Altitude, temperature, humidity, water grain etc can all dramatically effect the CFM.

    Hi,I love your videos, analyzing the cylinder heads,but I wanted to say something on this video,the 2.3" intake clearance on a 4.310" bore..I have a 1969 396/375 that is .060" and my squareport heads are the 840 heads with 2.3" intake valves in it with no interference at all with the bore edge.
    I just wanted to mention that because I have been talking to Brodix and they was saying a 2.3" intake valve would never work on a 396.
    Keep up the work on the videos.

    I learn things from every video you post. I don't know when I will use it but you should learn anything someone is willing to teach. But if someone complains about you not putting out free content, they have more screws loose than I do. I'll be waiting patiently for the next one.

    It would have been nice if when Gm started making peanut ports they put the ports in the right place. If the ports were up at the edge of the gasket flange where they should be they would flow so much more. An aftermarket set of something like a raised peanut with a set of spacers under a typical intake to address the alignment issue might work really good for smaller or high torque engines. A properly done peanut port would only have a port volume around 220cc average and could probably flow 300cfm.

    I’m thinking those 290s would be good for a street 502 or 509. Looking forward to seeing the ported flow numbers!

    I see they took some material out where the guide plates go . I had to essentially make my own guide plates . Because the head material was in the way making them put side load on the rocker studs

    • @updragracer
      @updragracer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the heads on the engine and I didn't want to remove and disassemble them to grind out the head to make room for standard guide plates

    You said the guy at promaxx acknowledged they used the same bare casting, i see they machine their intake for 2.25 valve vs 2.30 on the flotek and i assume thats why theirs is 110cc chamber vs 112cc? Be interesting to see a promaxx on your bench for comparo

    What’s the nastiest head you can get for 3-4K for a 512bbc all out drag engine, filled block the whole 9..and it’s getting 500 on the plate as well

    Every flow bench will have different flow numbers. Think you should mention that? Does mean you’re is right or wrong.

    • @WeingartnerRacing
      @WeingartnerRacing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have many times. I show flow numbers many times on BOTH of my benches and they are different . However 10cfm or more difference means something is way off on the bench.

    Happy new year from Australia !
    Have you had any bad experiences with the Chinese heads ? I have heard that the valve seats fall out and the guides are not honed properly.

      I've heard of that with the procomp junk! But my son baught some Pro-Maxx ,Maxx 200cc head's, put them on his little 383 straight out of the box and has has had them on there about 2 years now and no problems. And the little engine is very impressive!

    Are you saying you don't like the 2.300 inch intake valve because the bore is too small? Would you like them better on a 4.350 bore?
    These flotek's would still be better than the peanut ports I now wouldn't they?
