The symbol for "Integral" is a stylish "S" After the Integral Symbol we put the function we want to find the integral of (called the Integrand),
and then finish with dx to mean the slices go in the x-direction (and approach zero in width).

I would appreciate if you can give a side lesson on why the two pink triangles = 1/4 of the purple triangle. and the rest of the smaller triangles = 1/8, 1/16 etc.

Thank you! You're such a great teacher. I had graduated 4 yrs. in College without understanding the concept of limit. I just know the formula and the computation but the idea was not clear for me, but now it's very clear after watching your videos. Thank you so much! I hope you were my professor in Math before so that not only formulas and computation we'd learned but also the concepts or ideas of the topics which are the most important.

It seems like most teachers today just talk a bunch of jargon and instantly assume that you'll understand it without any explanation, and when they do explain it, they use jargon. No wonder why people think this stuff is boring. However, this series is different because the laymen can understand this. This actually teaches the concepts of the rules instead of just throwing formulas on the table just to be memorized (hence the name of the series). This makes physics and math much more interesting.

This was the way mathematics was seen in the earlier times, to solve actual, practical problems of the common man, now we learn mathematics to complete a class or to earn a degree, that's all, approach math the practical way, and you'll love nothing else more than this...our approach always made mathematics a different side of the world... the real motive of education was always to integrate knowledge with our real life... it has became very formal when the british came to India...

Instead going so complicated in the last sum to find out the area bounded by the curve. We can also do that find the area of the bigger rectangle and find the area of smaller rectangle and get the difference and we get the area of the bounded region between the smaller rectangle and add the area of the smaller rectangle the sum we will get the area bounded by the curve.
