Please let me know if you like this educational video on Claude Monet! I hope you learn lots from my six steps to paint with a more impressionistic style. I’d love to hear from you, so please leave me a comment.

I have watched videos on impressionist painters before and I believe that you cut right to the heart of Monet! I know that you could do a Monet styled painting demo every week and not exhaust this subject! Please return to this subject and style of video presentation any chance you can, thank you.

      Monet is my favorite artist!
I saw Monet in the St Louis Art Museum when I was about 10 years old and was thrilled.
My dad and three brothers were artists, so I grew up loving Art.
I love the educational part on Monet in your video.
Your art is amazing, so beautiful.
Thank you for sharing your work and tutorials.
      I just discovered you.
I know I don't have the artistic ability or talent but,I'm going to try to paint.
I just signed up for a class in my area for Monet type painting the garden.
I am grieving and hoping this will help me mentally.

This was a beautifully shared lesson - thank you. I have been fortunate to live and work abroad for some years and that meant opportunities to visit many originals in their home museums - and also recommend the 3d experience that tours periodically if you get the chance - Van Gogh was fun & I cannot wait for Monet. My challenge in art seems to be finding my own balance between realism and impressionism - I think your commentary is an encouragement. Thanks!

I saw the Monet exhibit at the Atlanta art museum. It was beyond stunning and what surprised me most at first was the size of some of the paintings they were huge. And when I got close to them they were just splashes of color and kind of formless. And as I backed up toward the center of the gallery they became more and more detailed. And it made me wonder how he stood at arm's length and created these details that he really couldn't see until he was thirty feet back. It was incredibly inspiring and I'm so glad I got to see that. He is the reason I fell in love with impressionism and I'm trying to pick up what I can from his amazing work.

Wow, what a fantastic experience! And I know what you mean about how amazing it is for the painting, to really be viewable from very far away, and so abstract in a way close up. What a blessing to see his work!! I dream of painting, large like that, but my little 10 x 13 studio doesn’t really accommodate it, lol!

Susan - hi. I live in England and have been to Paris many times and seen Monet paintings in the Orangerie, Musee d'Orsey and the Louvre. However there is a much smaller museum in Paris (The Marmottam Museum), that houses an impressive array of Monet paintings. I estimate there must be around 50 there. The paintings were gifted to the museum by one of Monet's sons who inherited these paintings and died without an heir. It truly is a magical experience to see so many Monets together in one place. It even has cartoon sketches he did as a young artist to earn money. However the 'jewel in the crown' is that it has the painting that was the birth of impressionism 'Impression Sunrise' - a really moving sight to see this painting. A visit is a must for any Monet fan visiting Paris.

Your homage painting of water lillies is lovely Susan!! I saw some Monet's paintings in the National Gallery of Australia. What stunned me was the 'metallic shimmer' of his pastel colours and how the glowed and 'moved' with the light as I walked around the gallery room. Looking into his paint colours this now makes sense as almost all his colours had a metallic base...lead, chrome, cadmiums, cobalt, copper verdigris....toxic!... but obviously beautiful!!

I live in Europe so I saw so many of his paintings. They are amazing, because u not only can see the painting but also structure and the actual paint on the canvas. Especially the Lili paintings are really something special. I really hope for everyone to experience seeing one of his paintings. In Europe they are literally everywhere and you can see them for 10€ in museums. I was in the live action museum and it’s not just his paintings but also rooms where his paintings are beamed onto the walls and you feel as if you are in his painting. If you ever get the chance to see it, do it. It really changed the way I see his paintings.

I saw his originals in New York at MOMA (Museum of Modern Art). They were surreal, gorgeous, softly lit yet full of light. Our eyes rush back and forth, viewing every brush stroke of strategic colour placement like a dragon fly darting around the water’s surface. A true gift to view! Three of his favourites (the triptych), plus a more recent acquisition and two guest pieces were on view. The triptych spanned 40 feet! It’s like standing in front of his ponds (likely his intent). The single panel “Water Lilies”, is a wide-angle mural displayed directly across from the triptych. At one time, these pieces were like family in his studio, now a world away in downtown Manhattan, staring blindly back at one another,, Monet worked on the triptych pieces over and over again during his last dozen years earth side. You simply must go! Bucket list Susan! 🪷🪷🪷

We visited Monet’s home Giverney France, which had several of his paintings on the walls. The house is lovely, old world France, but it is his garden, maintained in the manner and style he created, that astonishes. It is a lush, bold, glorious riot of color, texture and form. Then,a brief walk through a tunnel under the road and suddenly I walked into the real world of many of Monet’s most loved paintings - the soft light, filtered by surrounding trees, sparkling on the surface of that quiet pool of water covered with water lilies. Sublime.

I too Love Monet and was privileged to see several of his “water lilies” works at the St Louis Art Gallery. The paintings were so large that only 2 or 3 could fit in one gallery. Beautiful doesn’t do them justice. As a young artist I was in awe and found them to be just as special as they are advertised. Impressionism is my favorite painting form. I think that’s why I was first attracted to your lessons. Love the name of your channel so much!! Thank you for showing us so many different approaches to painting with pastels. My hope for you is to see a Monet original. Many major cities have a museum with at least one Monet, then the treat of a lifetime is to visit Monet’s house and gardens in France. You can stand and see the very bridge he painted so often. As a gardener I was delighted to see that the garden was neat, but not perfectly manicured-lots of beautiful yet slightly messy flower beds. It gave me hope as I’m not the neat and tidy type-I believe there is beauty in the messiness of life, even in painting! I enjoy your paintings and tutorials very much. Thank you!

    Hi Susan.
I went to Musee d'Orsay during my first trip to Paris in 2016. I loved everything about it, but all my favorite works there were either Monet of Van Gogh. Seeing them in person was really magical. Seeing a photo of one of the paintings isn't the same..
I went on another trip to Paris last year. I made it a point to go back to Musee d'Orsay, where I was disappointed to find out that "Starry Night" was on loan to some other museum. BUT, I also went to L'Orangerie to see Monet's huge mural-sized water lilies paintings. It was really fascinating how different they were from each other, because they depicted different times of day, quality of light, etc.
We also went to his gardens in Giverny, which were lovely, but very crowded. It's a major tourist attraction, and there were a few tour busses when we got there. Still wonderful, of course.
I strongly urge you to go when you can.

I love realism, but subscribed to your channel a few years ago partly because you are a believer and partly because you are a caring teacher who researches materials, methods, and techniques for us.
Now, you have inspired both my wife and me with this video and your links. I am just getting back to my artistic skills at 78 (Moses was 80!), and my wife suddenly burst with creative ideas for me to paint spiritual subjects in an impressionist style.
I very much appreciate your focus on Monet's obsession with light, since, as Apostles James and John said, our Heavenly Father is Light and the father of lights (us) (James 1:17; 1 John 1:5)!
I am subscribing to your Patreon page to learn more from you. I add my voice of encouragment to please do as many Monet and impressionist lessons as you can.
I believe Monet's focus on light helped lead to abstract art, which (unlike some incoherent "modern" abstract "art") focuses on the abstraction of elements (color, lightforms, shape, texture, etc.) from objects, arranging them in a compostion that, like impressionism, should tell a visual story.
Again, you have inspired us! Thank you,
    JC

Those are some great initials you have there, brother! I absolutely love your comments and totally agree about Monet‘s obsession with light. That’s so cool how are you compared it to the books of James and John! Our Heavenly Father is indeed the Father of lights. I can tell you have a deep knowledge of scripture. Your comments about Monet’s work are spot on and one of the reasons I love his work so much.
I’m so excited for you and your wife and your artistic journey with pastel painting! Bless you for becoming a patron of mine and I can’t wait to see some of your work in our beautiful, artistic family. God be with you brother and I just love how he connects us in Spiritual ways like this. Tell your wife hello for me and happy painting, brother!

Your piece is so beautiful. I truly hope you’re able to see a Monet in real life one day. I had the privilege of seeing a Monet exhibit when I was a teenager (my dad loves art and took me to see the exhibit) and I credit Monet with my lifelong love of art and Impressionism.

I was extremely impressed with the Monet painting of water Lillie’s. Not only did it pop off the canvas, but the sheer size of the canvas was impressive.

Hi!! First of all, I wanted to say thank you for sharing your knowledge and your skills with us, I thouroughly enjoyed watching this video, and for sure I will subscribe to your channel! Can't wait to see more of your great videos! Four days ago I saw a couple of Claude's paintings in Albertina Museum in Vienna, Austria, and let me tell you, I was just speechless.. it was an incredible moment for me, emerging artist, to see the paintings of one of my favorite artists in person. A couple of years ago I saw his paintings in NY in MoMA, but back then I haven't thought that I will become so passionate about art and that I will start painting on my own. Now, it's on my bucket list to visit Paris again and to go to Musee d'Orsay, which has the largest collection of works by Monet, over fourty paintings! And also, I really wish to visit Monet's house and his wonderful garden, where he used to paint his masterpieces. Warm regards from Poland, Mary

I was able to visit Giverny and the fabulous gardens. Apparently he planted his garden so that would have flowers all year long. The house had copies of his works done by students of his work. I did see a few originals on display at Expo 67 in Montreal. Love, love his work but only started painting after I retired some 6 years ago.

Your work is very nice! Anyone can paint a Monet, but usually it lacks that painterly quality, that elevates it. Sometimes the general publuc can't tell the difference, but for a trained eye there it is! Great work! 🙂 Migolette
