Last month I met a man who paid an Indian builder in UK thirty lakhs to get a work permit. Once here, the builder has no work to offer to this man. The young man has come with his wife. He had borrowed this money in India on a high interest and now he has very little work. He has difficulty to feed himself and his wife as cost of living is vey high in UK. The Indian agent in Punjab and the Indian builder in UK had made money. There are hundreds of stories like this.

What actually happens is that builders of Indian origin gets people from India as sports professional sponsored by some sports clubs run by someone who is making money. The sponsor takes his cut and builder gets cheap worker. Legally that person is only allowed to work for sponsor but in reality there is no work to do because there is no real club. To show everything as legal, some of these clubs will show that you are on their payroll but that is simply a front to convert black money to white for that sponsor. The wife however is allowed to work with no restrictions provided she can find work.

Britain has become a third world poor country in 2024. Indians should not relocate to Britain if it is for job or career or business. There is very high inflation, unemployment, and cost of living. Britain of 2004 is not the same of 2024. British pound has lost its values by 40 % in last 10 years.

Inflation in UK has been much lower than in India except for a brief spike due to high gas/electricity prices last year due to reliance on gas for electricity generation. The cost of living in UK was always high and that reflects in higher pay for which Indians like to come here as each £ saved is around Rs.100. £ lost against $ but against Rs. it is still way higher than what was in 2014.
