    That "barn find" in Portugal isn't a hord of abandoned cars. The owner is well aware of their existance and whereabouts and who took the pictures actually had to vandalize the warehouse lock to get in. And I've heard stories the photos only show one of two warehouses that former car dealer has. Not sure he's dead either.

    The Talbot Lago T26 coupe will be restored - and it is apparent that much of the cars' original custom bodywork is crispy crunchy rust toast. Therefore - it'll have to serve as templates for patterns to recreate the whole inner wood frame and the metal skin unique to this one-off custom creation. Since the history and chassis plate with engine, wheels, and not much else was purchased for over a million dollars - the actual restoration costs could easily top that!
    It'll be interesting to keep tabs on this project and the ongoing progression of the rebuild.

    The Iso could be picked up for peanuts when I was shopping for cars in the 80s. I got a whole bunch of classics over the years but remember a few I passed by that I now dream about... A Healey 100/4 for £495 (Why didn't I get it?) and Isos for under a £1000...A whole bunch of Mercedes sports for similar prices. Really the choice was huge in those days and if anyone had storage space they could..and did..make a fortune with a bit of foresight.
    My choice today - right now - if you have room, the Bentley Continental Coupe is now available for less than a second hand family Ford... Put two of these in a garage for twenty five years...

    Apparently during WW2, many Nazi officers died in theTatra. They were fast, for their time, but with the swing-axle rear suspension (think early VW beetles and Chev Corvairs) their road holding was terrible at speed.

    • @DanDishonored
      @DanDishonored 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was interested by killing Nazi officers and I found opposite fact. That car was really stable thanks to swing-axle. Nazi officers was wrecking them, because of their poor driving skills.

    • @colinkepple7555
      @colinkepple7555 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DanDishonored Swing axles were an early attempt at independent rear suspension. Mostly used in cheaper rear engined cars, although the Triumph 2000 and Herald had them. They were HORRIBLE in corners if you backed off the power or pushed a little too hard on the brakes. Try to visualise the effect on rear suspension geometry as the rear rises under braking. The rear wheels tilt outwards at the top, and the amount of rubber in contact with the road surface is reduced considerably and if cornering in a 'sporting fashion' the back end breaks away suddenly due to insufficient traction, sending the car off the road sideways. A joke in the 50's was that VW Beetles had rounded roofs so that they could be easily rolled back over again onto their wheels. American author Ralph Nader wrote a best selling book "Unsafe at any speed." It was all about the numbers of people killed in Chev Corvairs, because of their rear swing axles. Ultimately the Corvair died in the market as a result. Given a sufficiently powerful engine, a swing axle car can, if caught in time while breaking away, be induced to power out of the corner because the rear doesn't rise in that situation. People (like Nazi officers) without appropriate driving skills are unlikely to do this. The Tatra was a powerful car (for it's day) and for that reason they liked to drive them...fast...beyond their skill levels. Although I am a highly qualified mechanic of 40 odd years experience, I have never driven a Tatra or even seen one 'in the flesh'. But how one could be 'really stable thanks to swing axles' beats me. Probably stable in a straight line. Ferdinand Porsche designed the Auto Union rear engined GP car in 1936 with a 525 hp supercharged flat 12 cylinders. It had rear swing axles (like his VW) and its handling was so shocking they had to get motorcycle racers like Tazio Nuvolari to drive them. Top car racers wouldn't touch it. Perhaps they were Nazis.

    Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the German Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing petrol stations to only one state operated central gas station per city. From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California, New York and Arizona will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer...
