    Thanks mate for putting this up you'll learn more from this experience than a hundred WHW or overnight day walks/wild camps that's for sure. I know mentality it's very tough to carry on a backpack when the people you're walking with give up and I have experience of that too so fully understand your decision. I hope one day you return to this trail with a lighter pack and the time to walk without destinations pre-planed because the SUW is a wild camping adventure like few others in Britain 👍🍺🍺

      Personally i had no intention of quitting at thar point TBH but hadn't any plans i was just tagging along. I usually just tag along, im happy to do that maybe laziness. I used to go out solo alot and then obviously i have to plan everything myself.Its going to be difficult to get away on long trips for awhile.I would like to do a multi day solo sometime. Hopefully summit/snow camping next year ATB.

    It was a tough one. You fellas did a good start got on. Aye... sometimes enough is enough. Good to hear that old music bud. The scene choices were fab. Remember it's not over till its ovet! You can try again!

    Had two cracks at it Eddie. One ended at St Marys loch and the other ended even earllier by wrapping it at Overfingland at walking in defeat to Elvanfoot. It's gorgeous, remote, relentless and you canny pack light.......it gets in your head and it makes a lot of the highland honeypots look like Strathy park on a nice day. Absolutely no shame whatsoever in jacking it early. I honestly think its best savored in 'bits' mate. ATB.

      I dont know how far i could have went if circumstances hadn't taken over. Certainly had no plans of quitting at that point until circumstances took over. Yes a very remote part of Scotland. ATB

    I've done it twice. Once West to East and the other East to West. First time was glorious weather for the 12 days. The second one was crap weather straight through. Some bizarre wild camping spots and a LOT of mud on the second trip. Remote is an understatement. I'll definitely do it again but its length and lack of facilities mean you need to be carrying a lot of grub. I'm sure you'll revisit. Safe trails mate.

    Well done Eddie! Some beautiful scenery and the weather didn't look too bad. Great to be out with a good crew, especially on a long hike. When I turned 60 my body started going down hill and I couldn't push it like I could in my 50's, and now at 69 the arthritis has seeped into my back and it is a struggle. I can still ride the exercise bike 5 miles a go and I try for four times a day. The first big storm is arriving tomorrow and they say 6 to 12 inches depending on how it tracks, winds over 40mph too. It will be warm so heavy wet snow, and behind the front the cold comes in, the first day of winter on the 21st but Mother Nature doesn't use a calendar. Thank you for the enjoyable video! Take care, Ossie

      Hi Ossie my fitness is still ok, my feet have been sore for about a year buts its manageable like my knees. You can only try your best to get out and keep moving as much as possible. We finally got a cold blast after being very mild all year. Had a wee snow camp, vid in a few weeks. Yeah time and weather waits for no man. ATB and regards to family.

    Really felt for you guys, it’s never an easy decision to pack in especially after all the planning. Them packs are very heavy for that distance. Glad you enjoyed the 3 days you had. Atb Darren

    • @runforfunken
      @runforfunken ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Darren. The decision was a hard one to make and after watching and speaking to everyone,the decision was called for safety and the physical effects with the packs and terrain in front of us on individuals. Everyone had the opportunity to
      carry on.

    Well done on how far you did make with those heavy packs , it all looked to be going so well but with the weather turning it was always gonna be difficult . And as you said not that many complete the whole trail in a one er . Still it was good to get back on the trail Eddie . Atb for Xmas Dave

      @ScotsWildcamper  ปีที่แล้ว

      Circumstances Dave, i dont know far i could have went even with the very heavy pack. I sort of accept bad weather TBH its part of the outdoors. I had a good few days out and I'm much the wiser. ATB.

    Walked the SUW in November this year. Weather wasn't kind to us. I did find the transition from hard surfaces to soft was one of the hardest parts of the trail. Hope you get a chance to do it again.

    Those packs were mad heavy with having to carry 4 days worth of supplies. Great mileage on the first day but if you're not 'feeling it' then there's no point in carrying on. Good that the whole group decided to bail together, no shame in that. Always another year Eddie - put up with the midges and go earlier for the longer days. ATB Donna :)

    Good stuff Eddie, sometimes these things happen mate . Nothing worse than sore feet and carrying a heavy pack ..cheers Stevie

      Feet were manageable Stevie, it was on the hard ground they got sore but i certainly had no thoughts of giving up.

    I may have missed it but how many miles, of kilometers was the trek intended for? It would be interesting to see what you carried and reasons for doing so. This is one I would very much like to try.

    • @ScotsWildcamper
      @ScotsWildcamper  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its 214 miles long Alan, most people do it over 12 to 16 days. You have to carry alot of food due to lack of amenities.

    Never easy to have to end a planned trip early .I set out to do the 1066 country walk, from pevensey to rye 14 years ago. I had an infection and was recovering with antibiotics, so with hindsight I should have postponed. But I didn't . Started off in pevensey, camped overnight and set off for a 15 mile day to get to battle and a campsite . 10 miles in I was done and had to bail. Very upset with myself .
