- The Vibram FiveFingers V-Trek is built for the outdoors.
Here's Barefoot Junkie Paul Mumford explaining why they are so great in the wet and the dry and we know, little Freddie is mighty cute.

I used these last thursday to walk 28km on the Sallandse Heuvelrug in my area. It was a hot day and I had my new 30 liter backpack for testing, the shoes are really great to hike with. The amount of grip is insane, too much on tarmac. And the soft feeling under my heel was something I need to used to. Oh, after the hike, my socks and feet were very dirty. Normally I use Vivobarefoot Primus Trek, but they start to wear a little, now they can rest once in a while.
I read stories of v trek owners advising to purchase a V trek a size bigger than their normal size. is it also the case with your V trek?
@@vin-0feb977 yes, it is. I need 41, but bought 42 and have a bit of space left. I didn't wear 41, but I think my toes will hurt in the long term, because it will be tight. And you need socks in this shoes, thats also a reason. If you can try them both, I'll advise you to do so, or just be like me and just buy one size bigger.
Great video mate. I currently have V2.0 trail and I love to use them in the jungle and mountains where the track is a mud track and carrying 26-30kg backpack and it’s fine, however, if I carry the same weight in n a mountain track that’s made from stone, it’s absolutely bloody agony and near unbearable. My question is; does this trek version have any extra padding in comparison to the v2.0 trail or at the end of the day, is it still totally barefoot and will still be agony on a rocky path carrying weight? Cheers mate, and thanks for the video.
I like your hoodie!
Hi. I have had v-train version about a year as I’ve had to start walking forefoot due to an ankle injury from a cycling accident. I initially bought this model for the gym but discovered this style of walking has improved my ankles considerably. I’ve gone from being able to walk 200 metres to about 5 miles in a year.
Problem is with v-train on a wet pavement my feet are soaking in minutes. Especially around the toes wear water pores in between the toes. Are the V-trek any better at keeping the water out? I’m not to worried about heat insulation but the v-trek thicker sole sounds good as on cobbles the really thin sole gets a bit sore.
I’ve got very wide feet, and am looking to cover very long distances (up to 100km) in one go! Mostly hiking, but maybe a little bit of running.
Torn between these and V-Trail. Any suggestion as to which I go for?
I'm in the same situation as you Jake, I think I'm gonna go the treks as they appear a little more durable, a friend has the trail for running and loves them but I think the treks have a little bit more debris protection underfoot (I could be wrong) have you gotten any yet?
warlock16 I went for the V-trails in the end. The size I chose was a bit snug for a couple of days, but now feel perfect.
They’ve got a woven mesh under the sole (which you can see through a clear plastic window) that’s supposed to soften the impact of standing on individual stones. If I’m on a very smooth road, and I stand on a single sharp stone, I feel it but it’s not overly uncomfortable.
When fully off-road on gravel trails, I don’t notice any discomfort whatsoever, but I have a lot more ground feel through the shoes - which is really nice!
The best thing so far has probably been running / walking through very soft mud. There’s so much grip, but it feels like kneading dough underfoot. The shoes can be put in the washing machine after - so you don’t have to worry about cleaning them!
Gorgeous George I haven’t got bunions but my feet are extremely wide and 90% of the shoes I see in shops, I’m unable to wear. For regular shoes, I’ll often wear etnies skateboarding shoes as they’re a wide style. Even then, I still size up one or two sizes.
The upper material on the vibrams is extremely flexible, but the sole is fairly fixed in position.
I have a gap between my 1st and second toes that’s big enough for an extra toe. With the vibrams, they pull the toes together, but this isn’t uncomfortable at all, so I’d give them a go if you can.

How about the size? I'm little afraid of buying it online, as I'm not sure if the size they say is really the size you have, but there is no other way in my are to buy it,
I would just buy two pairs and send one back. Generally speaking they are pretty true to size with a few know styles where we and the Vibram website suggest going up a size. Check out the size guides and you should be OK. The worst one for fit are the womens KSO EVO. We find at trade shows that often we have to go two sizes up with this style.
Is V-Trek waterproof? Or somewhat at least?
Don't know the name of the ones I have but they get wet real quick. Like from damp grass for example
Sadly not. Waterproof Vibram FiveFingers are still being worked on. It's a hard thing to engineer due to their flexibility
This really isn't much of a review.....
How do they go in the mud does mud soak through through and into your foot, does sand/dirt get through any of the material?
How do your toes hold up after a 12km hike up a Mountain, what about with a 15kg backpack?
Hi Reece. It's not intended as a review. More of an overview.
Practise your toes back into shape and they can hold up to 20, 30, 40 km...
Can you run in them?
No you can only walk extremely slow.
Can I swim in these
shoe
nice
Foot
I like tha v trek, but dam after i use them for one whole day the got so smelly, thinking of using them with socks
👍🏻👣👊🏻
٣٣😊😊
Such delicious eye candy 👣😌👍
only 4 milimiters thick? really? thats a bit thin for a sole.....
Most Vibram fivefingers are either 2 or 3mm thick, which is the whole idea of them being "barefoot" shoes that give maximum mobility and sensory perception. The lack of cushioning teaches you to walk in a healthier way.
