@@Caseytify You really don't need a record company in this day and age. You can easily make your own music and distribute it to Spotify and SoundCloud for almost nothing. All record companies do is essentially collectively bargin with these distributors to get a better deal than you would on your own, but they end up keeping the copyright and 97% of the royalties anyway so what's the point.

@@iskamag Technically no. Although they have the rights to stream and distribute your music, they don't own it. I think that means they're technically licensing it. If I own my copyright and don't like the deal they're giving me I can always pull my music and stop them from distributing it.
Record Companies, in the sense I'm talking about, typically help with the production and distribution, as in actually getting your song onto streaming services. And the deals they have with artists very quite a lot, but often the artist gives them the copyright to their recording in perpetuity meaning the record company owns your work and can do whatever they want with it.

Just to warn you, there likely isn't anything in the agreement stopping whoever owns the copyright to these from putting them in content ID at any time, and the copyright for any of the tracks might get sold off to another library at some point. I've had to deal with this as a composer who has had music being licensed out by multiple non-exclusive libraries, where one of the libraries will, out of nowhere, automatically opt all of the music in their library into content ID as a "monetization opportunity" without informing the composer, which leads to a giant headache. They don't see this as doing anything wrong, it's just another way to generate revenue.
Music libraries are going out of business left and right because newer subscription services like Artlist and Epidemic have completely decimated the ability of the whole industry to actually make money, so they're desperate to generate whatever revenue they can, and copyrights or licensing rights getting sold off to another library before the company goes out of business is not unlikely in the future.
Also, be careful with the classical tracks, because different recordings can sound so similar that they get content ID'd to the wrong conductor/performer/label. This happens all the time.

I must be weird because I enjoy music created on “dated“ synthesizers. When I was a kid, my mom had this collection of classical piano music, I’m guessing it must’ve been recorded in either the late 80s or early 90s because the instruments used in it were basically a Roland RD 1000 piano and a Yamaha DX seven. And on some of the songs, they would try to re-create a kind of orchestra using the DX seven and I rather enjoyed it. I can’t remember what the name of that collection of tapes was or anything, I just remember listening to it a lot as a kid.

It sounds like it because that's exactly what it is. This kind of budget production music is all that community radio stations can afford. A lot of it Is utter crap, but good producers can easily identify the few decent tracks and put them to good use. These days music technology has advanced so much that I think stations might be better off linking up with the music production students from local colleges and having bespoke music composed cheaply. Even just as far back as when these libraries were put together, the cost in producing them was much higher.

We used these kinds of music libraries exhaustively for trailer production in television productions in the 2000's. To give you an idea how costly it was, for a 20 channel network, a music library of 10000 tracks or so, available to all producers online, with/without vocals across all genres from multiple sources was licensed for US$100k/year, then as competition grew the fees could be negotiated down to $50k/yr.
If one wanted to use say an a currently popular song or anything from the Billboard top 100 for a trailer, the limited license for a few months for that specific trailer, for a specific territory for a specific number of plays used to range from 10k to 100k for that one song's usage! And the negotiation process for this used to take months to just get the paperwork done. After the usage was done, we had to provide audited logs to the music company that listed in detail out each instance of usage on the channel for that period to make sure we didn't go over. For a 20 channel network it could mean 50000 instances in one month!
Some of this library music was really awesome, like just great indie tracks. Many times our viewers used to write in to ask what was the music track used on a trailer, as they really loved it, but this was pre-shazam and this was library music so they had no way of finding out what the track was except emailing us lol.

I'm primarily a listener of heavy metal, power metal specifically, though almost any form of metal that has a power metal lean to it will do.
I'm a critical listener though, and it's tracks like the ones presented in this video that remind me what real instruments, properly recorded and mastered with dynamic range, actually sound like. It can be frustrating to go back to a favorite power metal track, only to be frustrated that the mastering is so compressed that it sounds like there's a veneer of static noise over everything, the instruments all blend together, and while you can pick out individual instruments if you listen carefully, it's like listening to them played out of a tin can from the other side of a car door: Does it matter that you can _discern_ what the instruments are in such a case?
And "feeling" music, physically speaking, goes beyond just bass. The pluck of a guitar string or the blast of a trumpet have a physical impact with the way they compress the air, and with a proper speaker system and good recordings and mastering, EVERY second of good tracks can be FELT.
Beyond that, there's detail. If you cannot hear the engravings of the guitarist's fingerprints scraping over the spiraled metal cable every time he tugs the string and it snaps back into place with that classic twang, then the music is too compressed, or the recording doesn't have enough fidelity to capture that detail.
These tracks may be "generic," but they sound like real instruments played by professionals. (At least the real instruments do.)
I want that in my metal music, but out of hundreds of bands, I can think of a small handful off the top of my head. Unleash the Archers's album Apex; Aether Realm's album Tarot; Tales of Gaia's album Hypernova (I think they have programmed drums though); Gamma Ray's first couple of albums. . . that's all that's coming to mind, although I know there are more than that.
Point is, it's a shame when I get more visceral joy from generic music meant for commercial use than from the stuff that's meant to be artistic, and to thrill and excite.

Which is WHY it all sounds good, even decades later.

TH-cam's Content ID match system has gotten so overly aggressive and restrictive that a recent video I was working on was flagged for containing 9 seconds of audio. It was an automatic match, which seems to contradict their policy to frown against manual matches of short snippets of copyrighted content in videos. I can understand copyright holders having issues with 30 seconds or more of their songs being used but 9 seconds is ridiculous, especially since the song was playing in the background. I've considered using one of the various online video production music providers, but after hearing what 12VoltVids has had to deal with (copyright claims galore), I think yours is the best solution. It's a shame because how else is somebody supposed to review and demonstrate a piece of vintage audio equipment--by playing static?
I also like how that "Badge & Gavel" song is so uncannily similar to the Law & Order theme!
P.S. In the beginning of the video you had a Dell laptop with a Windows 7 sticker, running what looks like MacOS, that played the Windows XP "dunk" sound when you put the box on the keyboard. What kind of sorcery is that?

There were a ton of music libraries like KPM, Amphonic and others, plus many of them from Score Productions known for their game show libraries including “The Price Is Right”. I used them in my “Goldie” series, and of course Isaac Hayes for his instrumental stuff from “Shaft”, “Truck Turner” and others made by UMG for their Stax material, and Hoyt Curton for all of the musical cues used in Hanna-Barbera cartoons to use it in one of my videos and I used Vyond Studio for these music libraries.

KPM are definitely still going strong, and are now part of EMI Production Music.

Heh, the Carmen Overture sounds like its being played on a fairground organ.
ED: I think at one stage (in the 80s ?) the Beeb had a library of royalty free music available at relatively low cost on record as well as a small part of their library of sound effects available on record.

I bought several (and likely a few more soon) music libraries, but not exactly for this reason...but it helps to avoid potential problems with the content ID system with licensed music. You know, the stuff we've paid for. Works out pretty well.

The woman's profile at 10:55 can't be unseen, she's got a chin that dwarfs Reese Witherspoon's.
Oh, and this audio library is far more interesting than I anticipated!
