I’m always curious why some chess players (most notably Carlsen) like to touch each piece before playing the first move.. is it some kind of power play, a compulsive disorder or just some weird superstition?
I don’t know if it’s formal or informal. But he likely said or mumbled J’adoube before touching any piece. And at that level or any decent level his opponent wouldn’t ask him to say it for every piece on the first. Even if he didn’t say it, decent etiquette says “I don’t care you can adjust your pieces without saying J’adoube on the first move”
