Old guy here. MaHomes just has a combination of attributes that make him extra special. Workmanlike attitude, photographic type memory, a strong arm that seems to be made of rubber the way he can throw across his body at all kinds of different angles, very quick feet with surprisingly good speed, and a willingness to keep learning new things. If you watch the games were he’s played badly, it’s usually were he’s indecisive. In those cases, lots of times he slips out of the pocket then runs around in circles trying to avoid tacklers. Or he stays in the pocket too long, tries to get out then is sacked or stripped sacked. Those times he’s just got to go thru his reads quicker, make a decision to throw or not, then scramble or throw it away. When he’s focused and on his square, he is without a doubt the BEST QB in the league. You just shouldn’t doubt the “MaHomes Magic.”
    Go Chiefs.

Generally people as talented as him rely on talent over skills and it greatly messes up their ceiling and consistency in the NFL.

Great point about KC offence being much better because Mahomes makes different choices in playoffs

Yea, that is what makes Mahomes special. He is a great passer, that can also run/scramble when the need to arises. That is what sets him apart from other "dual threat" quarterbacks like Allen and Jackson. They are probably both better runners (Lamar for sure), but nobody has the unique combination of passing and running ability, along with great decision making that Mahomes has.

The right tool for the job -- that's what KC demonstrated in the playoffs and SB. Teams study film and game plan for their opponents seeking to stop or contain their bread and butter plays and players.
SF had 9 All pro players on their side of the ball. You wouldn't know it with how KC dealt with them in the SB. KC's defense is that of a smart amoeba. It morphed into whatever it needed to be to restrict the 49ers three straight times to 3 and out.
The 49ers were favored to win and overall had the better personnel on both sides of the ball. What it lacked was KC's adaptability and execution.
This amoeba like behavior was on display throughout the playoffs leaving most team defenseless in stopping them. Difficult to defeat a smart amoeba team. Its behavior on defense was highly unpredictable.
And, on offense, the QB's legs, team's ability and willingness in crucial games and moments to scrap the playbook and call 'Tom & Jerry' plays (i.e. plays for a specific player and execute it to perfection) sets them apart.

I know it probably didn't make a difference in the result, but the effort Warner put in to try and tackle Mahomes on the last scramble was incipit. It's almost like he thought to himself "Well chiefs have the ball and are only down by 3. Of course Mahomes is going to win, so why bother trying"
I think that is the most under appreciated part of Mahomes weaponry. His apparent invincibility weakens most opponents to the point they cannot operate at their normal ability.

At 3:50, you can clearly see Kelce throwing up his arms like "Pat - I'm wide open...why are you throwing into double coverage." To Kelce would have been the better throw given the separation, but fortunately Kelce attracted just enough attention to get the DB underneath the route enough. Also notice the DB lose track of the ball - if he'd have seen it all the way through, would have been an interception.

I think they definitely would have gone for it on 4th and 1 from that position. Andy Reid mentioned that they were planning to go for 2 if the 49rs scored a TD on the first possession of overtime and they were forced to match a TD. This shows that the chiefs had no intention of ever allowing Shanahan to get a 2nd possession in overtime where all he needed was a walk off field goal. They would rather take a high risk play and keep the ball in Mahomes hands on a single "lose if you fail" play. A 2 point conversion is a much more difficult play than a 4th and 1 from midfield, so I'm fairly certain they go for it there if Mahomes throws an incompletion on 3rd and 1.
