Had the priviledge of flying with the legend himself when I was about 10 years old. Call sign Decibel. Its an honour to still see the "Oom" flying and living his passion each day - a true inspiration to this day. These days even my son has the priviledge of seeing him flying at the museum every month. Thanks for many years of keeping the dream alive Col. #NextLevelNinjas🥷
The helicopter is a museum aircraft, not an active military rotary platform. There are loads of modern aircraft in the SAAF, like the Augusta A109 for example...
Dont think its the SAAF Museum's responsibility to fix the airforce headquarters. Thats the current guys who are in charge's job. The museum does wonders with the little they have, let them host and enjoy their airshow
I don't think there is much new about South Africa's military aviation. It's all old. We used to have a lot of new and a lot going on. Nowadays it's all been eroded by incompetence and corruption. The entire SAAF belongs in the museum. Sadly, the SAAF leaders use public events like this one to boost their egos, feeling all proud and important like with their well-fed bodies stuffed into medal bristling uniforms, and bumbling around like cartoon characters that have just stepped off the page. It's quite a spectacle and very laughable. So, if you want to enjoy the aviation component of well aged aircraft, with the same old dreary commentator geyser droning out tora, tora, tora in the background, while watching a good comedy of SAAF Muppetry, then the airshow will be the place to go to.😂😂
Agree with most of what you said, the current SAAF is not what it used to be at all. It is sad that the museum has to be the face of the SAAF and do the hard work of motivating young South Africans to work hard and join the airforce just to see that its not what they thought is would be. What a priviledge it must be though for the Museum to still be "that" important, and to play such a huge role even though some might think of them as aged and boring. Many of us grew up thinking we would join the SAAF and go fly Allouette, Oryx, Rooivalk, Impala or Cheetah (nowadays Hawk and Gripen). Today I am glad I didn't, as almost nothing is left of the mighty SAAF. Fond memories of those days where you would go to an airshow and see the above, plus five Silver Falcon JETS taking your breath away, Mirage variants and Dakotas, C-130, boeing 707, etc. I am one of many people who appreciate the museum and what they are still capable of achieving with the little funding they get. They keep those fond memories alive and helps one to pray that the SAAF will recover, but these guys at the Museum wont be around forever and the current SAAF wont be able to run the museum, and honestly I dont think they want much to do with the heritage that goes with it. Thus its worth while to support the museum and their efforts while we still can. Enjoy the "old dreary geyser commentator" and the well aged aircraft with the old men that fly them while we can, because our children might not have the same priviledge when they are adults.
Awesome!!! You are living my dream... Enjoy it. God bless... ❤😊
Lekker Dave!

I think the SAAF Museum must take charge of SAAF Headquarters!
