    These concepts are underrated and are ESSENTIAL if a musician wants to connect with their listener effectively. Please make more of these!

    Negative space and dynamics are probably the two most overlooked aspects in music in general, and in synth music especially.

    I bought an 0-Coast a few months ago, and just last month, started my first rack. My 1010 Bitbox mkii is on the way, and Tempi is next on the list for controlling the trigger ins. Can't wait to try it.

    One reason ‘music for 18 musicians’ is so fascinating is that it approaches human-expressed music from the never-ceasing aspect of the sequencer. Because of that unusual juxtaposition, not only is it difficult/fatiguing to perform, it feels completely different from other classical music. It’s beautiful but also shocking in its almost complete lack of negative space. This is a great video, thanks for the great modules too.

      It is a great system for sure, but I think, having had a B&G system for a few years and not being a multi-tracking kind of person... it would be *HUGELY* improved if it shipped with an extra Optomix and/or extra Moddemix. As-is the distributed mixing approach often asks you to make a choice between mixing and VCAs, or mixing and the other use cases for ch1/4 of Maths. Creativity and understanding the system helps, of course, but sometimes it's nice to have fewer obstacles between brain and sound.

    Great One Walker! Can you explain the trick with the tempi Chanels witch have the same tempo but are Out of phase so the send a gate after each other?

    • @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC
      @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sure! If you press both PGM buttons at once you will be on the Phase page. From here hold the channel button you want to phase shift and then use the PGM buttons to shift it forward and backward. Or, alternatively, it will follow the phase of your taps if doing human programming.

    That’s great.mi don’t have a Rene but I think I can achieve something similar with my Microbrute 2s on sequencing detail. I have maths and morphagene and Mimeophon and various other utilities and the instruo Csl as the complex oscillator so reckon I’ve got enough to make a very similar patch.

    • @jsleeio
      @jsleeio 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      you can also "mute" your gates/triggers with a VCA, or a logic AND gate, or even with Maths channels 1 or 4 if you aren't using them already

    It sucks when you spend hours writing a horn arrangement and then when you get to the studio, you realize there are no rests for the trombone for like 10 measures.

    Great video! I am still trying to learn how the phase timing works on Tempi, and have been trying to get two channels to run out of phase like you have in this example (ch1 and ch2 are on opposite phases). Do you use the course or fine phase adjustment, and how many “presses” do you use to get them in this 180 degree phase relationship? Sorry if this is a trivial thing!

    • @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC
      @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In this case it would be coarse phasing, and half as many presses as the division the channels are set to. So for example if they are at /16, then you would do coarse phase and 8 presses to make them 8 clocks out of phase.

    Great idea to be talking about, but it ended up with a patch with very little, if not no, negative space by the end. I think it's really hard to not let it run away with you. It's an issue in music that goes way beyond synths though

    • @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC
      @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes it sort of evolved more into "letting each voice make room for the other" than having everybody rest all at once. How and why to make arrangement decisions is indeed a huge topic for music. Hoping to explore it further in the future. Thanks for your comment!

    Mysteries of the universe explained, you dont open your LPGs with your envelope generators like in a filthy subtractive hardwired synth because thats for the weak, you just patch your gate outputs straight from your sequencer... raw like that lol
