I felt like I knew these couple of diamonds already. George has always spoke so beautifully about his parents and vice versa. His mother seems like a tower of strength and... And his father's love for his son is also clear to see. Considering it was the seventies/early eighties... Their attitudes are light years ahead of society. Definitely makes me proud of my working class and Celtic roots.

    • @lyrebird9749

You're mistaken. George spoke beautifully about his mum, not his dad. His dad was an abusive bully to whom George said "If you're what a man is, I don't want to be one".
What his dad is saying here to camera is very different to the reality.

As a young kid walking through Trafalgar Square I came walking straight towards BG, instead of saying something positive I called him a ‘f-ing queer’ yrs later now in my 50s I have nothing but respect for the man . And knowing where he comes from our home town of eltham he would have met people like me all the time growing up on his estate or up the high st. He actually replied to me straight away ‘at least I’m a rich one ‘ . . Razor sharp and down to earth as his father said . Lovely Irish family

I must admit i also thaught his parents were actual Irish as opposed to just being of Irish background. @@chopchung He wasn't acting at all. He admitted that he was a bully at first.
As soon as the interviewer brought up the makeup, his dad went from smiling to looking downward in shame.
His dad admitted he was a bully at first by saying "I reacted"... "I would have given him a back hand"... "wash it out"...
But he also said he's a good singer, has a good wit, and lots of talent.
You can tell his dad was proud of him and loved him.
George knows that too, from what he's said about his dad in other interviews. He loves his father and he knows his father loved him.
It was just REALLY hard back in those days dealing with being an effeminate boy and accepting that your son was effeminate. Yes, his dad was a homophobic bully at first, but he came around. He did the best he could.

My sister was approached by Boy George in a night club in Manchester in the 90's.
He walked up to her and said she was wearing "The best outfit in here!" and hugged her, which made her year!
She was completely naked... apart from a parachute harness that my mum made the night before out of an old duffel bag!
It doesn't get any more 90's club-scene than that! 🙈🏆🇬🇧

I tried dressing like him a little and my dad- who I thought would get mad at me, instead was proud of me and took me into the back yard and took pictures of me. Man, I was so happy with that response and loved my dad so much (I hit the jackpot with my dad). So, I ended up dressing up fun and colorful throughout high school going to dances and just living life to the fullest. I moved on to college where I grew out of it but whenever I hear his songs it brings back good times. And, those backyard pics are in our family albums proudly displayed by my dad.
