    I'd also say REAPER is a very good DAW which basically provides all capabilities and goes for $60 for the individual/small-scale business license (and frankly it lets you keep using it past the trial period even if you don't buy the license).
    And RME (Babyface Pro) is another good option for a high end interface. Beyond the hardware itself the company is known for its extremely well made drivers that provide perhaps the lowest possible round-trip latency on a PC.

    • @TLguitar

      @@tubadude07 Yup, and they keep it well updated. I don't use Mac, but in some video that showed on my feed the performances of the M1, M2 and M3 chips were compared with different DAWs and while the pricier Apple-specific Logic Pro didn't use the efficiency cores at all (and on the M3 there are more of those instead of performance cores, so the performance actually lowered) REAPER was able to utilize everything.

      maybe do the old-fashioned clapper board, and record audio on the camera as well. then you can easily match up the large audio peak with the frame that the clapper board gets shut on, and boom, you're in business.

    Thank you Charles, great video. In terms of DAW I've been using reaper for years, and that is very impressive. And as far as clipping is concerned, I've purchased the Zoom UAC 232, a 32-bit float audio interface, for a price equivalent to that of the scarlett focusrite 2i2, and I've solved the problem forever. And since equalizing is one of the most difficult problem to solve, I've also purchased Gullfoss eq plugin (which is not that cheap, but it's worth buying), which basically does the vast majority of the eq job by itself with a very comprehensive interface. Those are the three main valuable things (together with my bass and a good compressor vst) I use, together with many others things that might change from time to time. Not wanting to be a producer but wanting to remain a simple bass player with the goal of independently recording my own music, I have found that certain technologies are crucial to producing music that is also worth listening to from a quality perspective.

I also have a Mexican made, Fender Player Jazz bass fretless which i just bought, but not played much on it yet because i want that guitar maker to set it up properly with the knobs being lowered and give some TLC to give the bass the sound i want.

    I used to use an old boss 8 track recording mixer with big floppy disks, but my wife upgraded me to a Steinberg interface with Cubase software, but it's so complicated and the audio setup for the computer speakers and sound was constantly troublesome. So even though I have equipment, I never record anymore. Sad. I know.

Some on audio software and some on video software, all completely different channels yet exactly the same result where my comment was deleted. Should i set the knobs on the bass to flat and use the daw eq, turn off the pre-amp altogether, or use the pre-amp eq settings and set the eq in my daw to flat? Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • @getsideways7257
    @getsideways7257 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I'm not sure about bass, but for electric guitar you are better off recording it out of the amp with a quality microphone - at least that was the case a couple of decades ago when I was making my own first steps in that direction.
    Also, you need to make sure you are using the ASIO drivers for the lowest latency possible on your audio interface.

    Hi Charles, what strings do you use? I also have another question. I want to finally learn how to tap on the bass. I ordered a new bass (also a neck-through body) and paid for services like intonation, action adjustment etc. And yet I still have that stupid "double sound" when I tap higher notes on the fretboard (basically around 12th fret and higher). So I wanted to ask if you could make a video about how you set up your neck and action, especially for tapping. I would really appreciate that.

      For software, DaVinci Resolve hands down. There is even a free version, which is extremely functional. The paid Studio version is $300 and the current model is that all upgrades are free. The company Blackmagic retains the right to change this in the future, but so far every upgrade has been free. I can't speak to cameras or lighting or anything like that though.

    • @zerosiii
      @zerosiii 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Tekkerue I mean there's so much things here, even after you get a camera and a lens and set it up. Do you record video and audio at the same time? Or audio separately, and the sync? Then, you probably want to connect your camera to your computer/laptop, instead of recording on battery and SD card and then transferring files, which is annoying. To do this, you need a video capture card (which is just like the Audio Interface, but for video), and a dummy battery for your specific camera, so then you hit "Record" in a software (i.e. OBS) and record directly files to your computer, which is 10x faster then using SD cards

    • @Tekkerue
      @Tekkerue 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@zerosiii Sure, I was only speaking to the editing software not the hardware. To your first question, it depends on how you want to film, if you want to get a perfect audio performance using multiple takes and then make a video for it, you'd probably want to record audio and video separately. Get the audio edited first and then mime a performance for the video where you play along in time while listening to the edited audio, think of a music video. If you want to capture an authentic live performance exactly how you play it, then you'd have to record both audio and video at the same time. In terms of recording to your computer or an SD card, I can't really speak to that as I don't know camera or video capture hardware.
