    First if all, I love this fly. I think it will work well on the rivers too, perhaps a couple sizes smaller. A trick I learned to keep the hackle pliers from slipping is to add a little bit of wax to the jaws.

    You have very big Midges in the UK!!!! And they have legs like a Cranefly.

    Nice midge Davie, like the combo hen and rooster for wing impression. Will give it a go, but sub thin silver wire for tinsel.

    Great videos Davie. You're by far my favourite fly tier on TH-cam 👍. I once knocked on the predictive subtitles by mistake on one of your videos, I nearly died laughing at watch it thinks you are saying 😂😂😂 very funny

    Great fly as always Davie, Would it be acceptable to substitute the pheasant tail for say black peacock herl or even seals fur dubbing? Appreciated as always Mike.

      Hi Mike,
      Any of the materials you mentioned would be ok for this fly and even just the thread would do as I have tyed many like this as well..I'm glad you liked the fly..

      Many thanks for the reply Davie, I believe as many others do that without a doubt you are by far one the best fly dressers around today, I live just a few miles south of where Megan Boyd lived in Brora, I was a little to young to appreciate her work back then. I hope to see you at the GAC weekend in March as I plan on making the trip down. Many thanks Mike.

    Another cracking fly Davie.do you treat it with a floatant before fishing it.are you at the Scottish fly fair in march?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gary,
      Yes I would treat the fly with a floatant before fishing. I'm sorry I'll not be at the fly fair though I do know there's many good tyers going along so I'm sure you will have a great time...
      All the very best Davie...

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Lawrence,
      I like to use a 4 inch razor scissor and you can buy them from many companies and even ebay though you need to watch as the quality is a bit of a hit or miss at times...I have attached a couple of links to them for you to see...

      Hi Stryker 2,
      It can be fished both as a wet, dry or sub-surface like you said, it's one of those flies that you can't go far wrong when midge are on the water...I'm glad you like it...

    • @DavieMcPhail

      Hi Chris,
      Yes it would work fine though I would rib it with a fine wire to protect it as it's not as strong as the tinsel I used...I'm glad you liked the fly...

    Great looking midge there mate. Bet those would look good in other colours and sizes. Wondering how small you could go? You going to tie any streamers this year Davie? Thanks for sharing. Best Regards Ken

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ken,
      I've tyed many colour combination of this fly, I put a photo in the community page here on youtube of other colour combinations you may like to try...I've tyed them down to a size 16 in the same hook I used in the video though it was the bronze version as they don't do the black nickel down to that size...If I do get the chance to tye some streamers I'll certainly look at filming it...I'm glad you like it...

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jason,
      With the cold winds forecast for the next week or so you are going to need a polar bears suit to survive, don't worry I'm sure you'll be catching very soon...
      ATB Davie...

      Hi Charles,
      I have attached a link to the razor scissors I was using in the video, they are a good pair though I have only used these ones for a couple of weeks. My last pair came from Loon and they lasted me for nearly a year until I broke the points by dropping them on the floor...
