Do you feel for the most part you are treated fairly/equally like the locals there ? How often are you treated as an "outsider" or target to try and take advantage of? It seems to vary in each south or the border country?

@@michaelbrinks8089 If you live in a big fancy house that a local could never buy and you isolate yourself behind a locked gate You are not equal to the locals.I think the locals assume you can pay more and will charge you more. You will have to negotiate alot.

I'm an expat living in Thailand for over two decades and am seriously considering to settle in what may inevitably be my final home, somewhere where long term residency is cost effective and straightforward. ☺

Excellent response to this informative video. I agree with your comments which I’m guessing are feeling of many viewers. I could certainly afford any homes shown here but being 70 and only living with my wife we certainly don’t need a lot of livings space. Outdoor space possibly that would be more important for entertainment or hobbies. I also dread the thought of climbing stairs which was not even a concern for me just a few short years ago. We all know we are not getting stronger as we age unfortunately but that’s life and the fast lane is catching up.

I heard that once you get to 50 years old, stairs are a no , no. Accidents happened and you feel trapped not been able to physically move freely. It actually happened to me in 2021, when I broke my femur in Mexico.. I learned the hard way, literally.

My property tax bill on my house came today. The assessment didn't change, my senior exemption went up $1000 so I'm taxed on less and what I owe is still up over 6% from last year. Meanwhile the government, companies and media go on all the time about near zero inflation. The bill I really have a problem with is water. It's over $75 a month to use $3 worth of water and $4 worth of sewer. The rest is service charge, drainage and taxes. I have water in my yard and basement because the water company hasn't fixed their leaky water lines for over a year. My list of things that don't make sense in the US gets longer everyday. Well...doesn't make sense unless I'm getting gringoed.

Amelia and JP, you do great real estate tours, I can sense the yearning in your eyes for a lovely Ecuadorian home with land, like the beauties you are showing today.
I sold real estate in Boston for about 10 years in the '80s and '90s.
That pretty condo you showed for $129k was a super value. Many outdoor parking spaces in Boston now cost over $100,000! (with late night rats)
I loved the El Encanto home with those magnificent windows that looked like museum paintings.
I would put a nice hot tub on that beautiful deck. I'd be tubbin' on those beautiful cool nights and again in the gorgeous chilly mornings, with a nice cafe con leche. I would savor the views and the relaxing hot water with my girlfriend. What an amazing place to invite friends and family. Now I just need a loose quarter mill.
Hopefully in the next year or so we will be visiting Ecuador, and we will definitely visit Cotacachi for a week or two. Thank you for the great tour, good health to you both.

Still I think in this area there are probably many good properties at even much more affordable prices. I guess you have showed us the top of the line there.

Love the arched doors and windows and colors at casa de los suenos. I am surprised that your real estate agents are obviously from the US or Canada instead of Ecuador. The brick house is lovely too. And the one with the lovely woodwork. And the income property. Heavens Cotacachi is lovely.

JP u really stepped up the quality of videos. My only suggestion is turning the music down about 20%. It rattled my ears using headphones. Otherwise I love your videos.

Thanks! Unfortunately sound is different on different devices. I can barely hear the music on my headset but it sounds good on my laptop speakers. I wish it didn’t vary so much.

They say never buy in foreign countries, but I'd still go with #3. It a good house for a family, as a retirement income, and as a legacy property for those who have kids there. Plus as a regular income property with 1 tenant you know you can travel even long term and know, if you selected a great tenant, that your property will be safe.

Really impressive! Would be tough choice between wanting the water out my window vs. 2 Volcanoes! I liked the first country house (Brick house) probably the best, but the condo area was magical.

I would choose the last one. I really like the size and design amongst other things but it would depend on some details like dishwasher, bathrooms and closets. My preference would be a single story house though.

$60 PROPERTY TAXES!!!!! I live in a SMALL Chicago Bungalow about 1/2 the size (second home featured) and my taxes are almost $10,000 and rising. And I'm betting you don't have to wear a bullet proof vest like we may have to start doing around here!

You can bring your dog-you just can’t ever (I mean never!) let it off leash on the grounds of Los Suenos. So be forewarned.

In Mexico, and America also, everything is considered negotiable. Are Ecuador condos and property negotiable?....and like Mexico do you own the property or as an expat are you “temporary” owner?

    • @angelinacoldwell4834

In Ecuador the transaction is handled by a lawyer (abogado) and is very legal. It is your own legal property. One reason why people buy here rather than rent, is that owning property makes is possible to get an "investment visa". There are other visas as well, such as a retirement visa, work visa etc. But if you are not retired, or have a regular passive income, investing is a great alternative.
