Very nice comparison. I chose the Mr. Cool over EG4, despite wanting the DC option, for two show-stopping reasons. The first is the Mr. Cool has multi-zone options. I have a larger house and Mr. Cool has options for one compressor (outdoor) with up to 5 indoor air handlers. Want to cool your entire house with one unit? Only Mr. Cool will allow that. The second reason is I have a three-story house and getting to that third floor is a heck of a lot longer than 25 feet of lineset. Mr. Cool allows for connecting two pre-charged linesets together for longer lengths. I have a pair 50' runs coming off of a 2 zone compressor going to my third floor.
I do have a couple questions on the EG4. Does the SEER rating differ between running on AC or running on DC? And, can it do both? That is, DC being fed from sunshine during the day and switching to AC at night, when there isn't enough direct solar available?

I have a midea which was advertised as seer 40, but now it says seer2 25.5, which may be now less, but it was advertised as that, 9000 btu 240v 15 amp circuit running on the grid, and cooling a 40 ft insulated shipping container with no issues. So great for tiny home. But I did buy the 1 ton hybrid eg 4 that can run direct off solar for my next container.

I guess it's kinda six of one half dozen of the other. The price difference between Mr. Cool and Tosot is enough to buy a nice 48v100 hour battery which would give you the extra storage to run the thing at night.

I noticed that Signature Solar also sells a EG4 12000 BTU hybrid (AC/DC) unit for $1,299... $50 less than the AC only model. It has a substantially lower SEER2 rating of 22 vs 28.5. Having the DC option would be nice, even if there was no initial plan to use it. Anyone know why the SEER2 rating would be so much lower when the DC option is included? If it has a SEER2 of 28.5 on AC and SEER2 of 22 on DC, the AC/DC option is much better and $50 less expensive. Of course, there is probably something being overlooked in my assumptions. Maybe a completely different compressor of other design difference(s).

I think the reason the eg4 mini splits are lower price is that the owner wants to bring value to the customer. I forgot what eg4 stands for, but the meaning would explain it. The 4 stands' for everone'

My 9000 btu 240V Gree Sapphire 30 SEER consumes minimum of 250W in cool mode and max of 1,700W in heat mode. This is why they want it wired to a 20A circuit on 120V and 15A on 240V circuits. Your average wattage depends a lot on your setpoint and outdoor temperature.

@@USA-GreedyMenOfNoIntegrity wow, in heat mode the max I’ve seen mine pull is 900 watts. Never had an issue with it tripping my 15 amp breaker.

@@unpluggedtexanmy Fujitsu 9K 33 SEER 240V mini hp consumes 1900W max in heat mode. Some mini splits heat better and down to lower temps. They do it partly by running the inverter compressors at 7200 RPM, consuming a lot of power. Still more efficient than running electric heaters or a standard 14.3 SEER2 hp.

@@USA-GreedyMenOfNoIntegrity that’s a high seer rating. Does that come precharged with refrigerant?

@@unpluggedtexan yes, my Fujitsu, Airtemp (Gree) and Ameristar 9K 22 SEER on my Chevy Express 2500 work van (Gree - 120V) are all pre-charged R-410A with flare connections. No quick connects like Mr.Cool….that’s one reason they are more expensive.
Yes, I wish we had high COP hp’s like Europe has for us northerners. I have plenty of solar power in the summer and run short in Jan-Feb. 7 tons of hp’s and 49kWp.
