The WICB is correct in their response. The WI team should be what it is, a team , not a Guyanese Cricket Board, a Jamaican Cricket Board or wherever else. Once upon a time (70s & 80s) the WI team was selected on performance without any interference from any local board. (I am not saying it was perfect) There days there are more complaining than anything else. This is one of the reasons the quality of our cricket is getting worse.
Just to clarify Bascombe was part of a group that developed the current selection policy. However it was a different group that appointed the selectors.
Nothing will change, until we identify who we are as a people . We must change our team name and I am very serious. We are the chosen ones and we must act like it . This should be easy, but we make it hard.
In my opinion, the major issue with WI cricket is that there no real structure from the Clubs level and that goes all the way up to the WI team. Also, the WI Selectors devalues what it means to be a WI cricketer by selecting players who are not even okay First Class players, for example selecting batsmen who average below 25 in F/C cricket, to be Test batsmen, too many fitness exemptions for players they like who might not be in form at the moment.
The selectors have to choose from whom ever is available. If the top 5 batsmen are averaging 20-25, what should they do? Let's be honest, the raw talent of yesteryear is not there anymore, therefore the WI organization should find a way to bring out the best from those who are interested from a younger age. Yes, they will have to work twice as hard to get the same results.
I'm support of the majority of the fact that Faz has made, but I am saying if a player is not performing he should not be selected and most of the big shots players need to be consistent or stop playing the game, pick players in accordance with performance and not popularity be it who wether captain or crook if you don't want to play the game get out.
It could be who we select or don't select, our young crickers is just not good enough at the international level. If you have cricketers choosing to play when they want too that's a problem! Cricket is all about the $$, especially in WI cricket. In the glory days of WI cricket, cricketers used to play with pride, now our young cricketers have no pride concerning WI cricket. It's all about the $$ from management down to players. And if we think WI will dominate cricket again good luck. It's coming to a point where the countries and island will branch off. And in the glory days we had these problems, but because we were so dominant everything was hiding under the carpet, but reality checks in now .

However the Standard of West Indies Cricket is deed needed to be lifted..but I don't think much is going on from grass roots up .we need to invest in youths from Age4-5 up in a consistent basis way.socan emerged to the top.

They also should rank their players in various categories, e.g Spin bowlers, Pacers, Allrounders, openers etc. They players who perform best should play and they should pick them in current form. Not wait to reward me in 2022 for 2021 CPL, because players may not be at their peak. They adhoc business need to stop.
Faz, Loads of clubs give testimonals for retiring or retired players. But if the captain is from Barbados. the team is packet Barbadians. Same of Trinidad and Trinidadians. Jamaica will leave West Indies cricket, and take Guyana and St Kitts with them. Remember the West Indies federation, Jamaica' motto, We must either Lead or Leave.
