  • Today i will show you two easy ways to remove shadows from a portrait. The first one is perfect for selective shadow removal and great for any case where you need to have more control over your light.
    The second one uses HDR Merge in a creative way to give you a great looking result from just one initial photo.

    Guys watchout when clipping adjustments to a specific layer so it does not affect other layers. The order of adjustments in this stack is inverted, the first adjustment is topmost one, right below the layer clipped on and the most bottom one is the last adjustment applied. This is a bit confusing since stacking adjustments on top of layers causes topmost adjustment to be the last one

      @OlivioSarikas  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cool, das freut mich. Du kannst die beiden sogar kombinieren, indem du das HDR bild als layer über das original kopierst und dann mit einer maske nur da anzeigst wo du es haben willst :)

    Thanks Olivio, you are one of the Go To people for Affinity. Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong if in way 1 the HSL layer makes no difference? I've got them grouped as HSL on top, then Curves then mask.I'm partially removing shadows under broad brim hats from the Australian sun, so do need to pump up the saturation a bit. Cheers, Peter

  • @cryptonite8495
    @cryptonite8495 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is effective, but needlessly complex. If you simply cannot bear to touch the original, just make a copy layer and work directly on the shadow in that.

    I got to 1:50 where I click on 'invert' and was met by a chessboard of hundreds of tiny squares? Ive seen this before, and had to abort. Im trying to amend a black and white photo. I followed all steps exactly. Can you advise?!?

  • @johnsmithlin5389
    @johnsmithlin5389 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello Olivio, First of all, I recently switched to Affinity Photo from Gimp and your tutorials are brilliant. Thank you. I do have one question that confuses me, why do you add a mask layer when the curve adjustment layer is already a mask? Why not just ctrl+i ( invert) the curves layer?

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi John, thank you :) The reason i do that, is because it's more flexible. I can move the mask to other layers, copy it and more. So it keeps everything a lot more flexible. Plus it is more visible in the tutorial

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Shanley, sometimes they are a bit sticky. Try to click & drag the mask out to somewhere else and then back it. If they are a bit indented to the right, it means they have connected to that layer. So you need to pull them out again and then in again to see if they are now freely sitting below the other layer. Other than that. I don't see a reason why you wouldn't be able to move them

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Scott, please always comment with a time code of where in the video the part is you ask about. I did this video over 1 year ago, so there is no way i remember where and for what reason i inverted the mask layer ;)

    • @scottcardais3560
      @scottcardais3560 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OlivioSarikas Thank you for the reply. The specific instruction to invert the mask layer is at 1:50 into the video. It's one of a series of Set Up steps in your 1st workflow to remove shadows from one part of an image. As soon as I choose INVERT from the LAYER menu, my image disappears. Undoing this brings the image back. Thanks again.

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      sorry for the late answer. if your image disappears it mean that you have the mask applied to the image, instead of to the group. make sure it is inside the group.
