Traveled 7 hours to get this Bobcat 811 backhoe attachment for my Skid Steer. The 863 Bobcat I have has a blown engine so I can't use that to lift out the attachment. Because of this I needed to build my own hoist and try to get this 2,000lb piece of metal out of my trailer as safely as possible.
Matt, this will not be the last time you do heavy lifting on your property. At the very least, please get yourself some proper PPE (Personal Protection Equipment). Behold the list of must haves;
1. Hardhat - above all (no pun intended), protect your head and face. You should see mine!
2. Safety glasses
3. Steel toe boots (Saved my toes a couple of times)
4. Gloves
5. Hearing protection (Often overlooked and kind of a pain) Especially, if you're a shooter. I lost partial hearing in my right ear thanks to a Colt Python. I had shot that revolver many times without any problems. One day I fired it while standing to close to a vertical embankment. The shockwave bounced off the cliffside and ear boxed me. For 2 weeks I couldn't hear out of that ear. About 10 years ago, I started having tenitis troubles from that ear only. Left is perfect.
I'm an apprentice millwright. Ironically, my next class at the union training center in Portland is going to be on hoisting, rigging, etc. In closing, when building anything, etch this into your brain and start here.
PLS (In that order)
P = Plumb
L = Level
S = Square
(This was partially the reason for the collapse)
I've been a fan of your videos for years. The first one I watched was the abalone one where you found huge abalone in ankle deep water. Congratulations on your tremendous success my friend!
i second this, the safety boots saved me many times of losing/crushing my toes as well (I worked as a scaffolder). never underestimate protection equipments
This can't be too much more dangerous as some of your past cliff fishing! 😂
I was going to post the same comment!
My first thought as well. I posted my comment before reading yours. Lol
Nah this was completely stupid. I love Matts and his content but this was just not smart at all. Any piece of that could have rolled and crushed his leg easily
the more vids u watch of him the more you realize how reckless this guy is lol
Sooooo many times I have found myself holding my breath when Matts is climbing up and down cliffs or pilings.
Blessings y'all.
🙏🇺🇲🙏
I’m here for it
Yessir
👊 following in your footsteps brotha!
Could've deflated the tires on the trailer to get that extra few inches in order to pull out. Always next time. Just be safe! Otherwise, im super proud of you, man. I've been watching your videos for YEAR'S! To see you get to this point in life.. Is beyond inspirational. You're a legend.
It’s always fun to watch city boys doing ranchie shit for the first time 😂😂
I don't know if I'm happy about it but the reckless abandon of safety makes me nostalgic for your earlier adventures
MAN! When that thing fell, I laughed! But when it slid and caught your foot, I think my heart skipped a beat!
Happy to see you experimenting 🫡
so you had all the material on hand to do it right the first time, but opted not to. i love this channel
Glad to see you posting again.
I've been in your shoes too many time to count with similar projects. And i still have all my toes and fingers. Lol!
Bruh you got it done and you're not hurt!! Successful!!!
Matt, you're an absolute madman. (I'm here for it.)
You had a great thing going with the Fishermans Life channel, not so much now. Thanks for the memories!
Pulled it off.. not in the most appropriate manner, but non the less, a success!! Well done sir. You pulled through this one like a G!!
You did it by yourself, big accomplishment!!
been watching fishermans life for YEARS.
man i love this channel. glad to see u back dude!
Still watching both your channels, u have a lot on your plate, but u keep going, how and where do you get soo much energy to keep going, love the videos keep doing what your doung... god bless
Next time try making a tripod hoist. I’ve never done it, but I’ve watched other channels build them, and attach their chain falls to it. You’d be surprised how much weight they can hold with the right material. Regardless, I always appreciate you sharing exactly how things play out. BOL, see ya in the next video.
Seeing you wrap that chain around your hand, I wanted to cite you for a safety violation. I don't wish you ill, but was certainly happy to see this fail. All that was missing was a drawl and a "hold my beer" comment.
Be careful Matt, I’m a guy with a severely bad back so take it from me, take a little extra time, spend a couple more bucks and the most important thing, don’t be afraid to ask for help.
Keep up the amazing work sir, nothing but respect and admiration for what you’ve done. ✌️
A three legged hoist, the back leg was bowing as you lifted? Dude you almost died.. 😯 Well, least your a hell of a fisherman. 😊
@8:43 I love da honesty 😂 but man, glad your okay brotha there was some close calls 🤙🏽
I'm still watching the first half of the video and I'm anticipating for you to pull out your gun 😂
what the heck!! when you told me you were gonna do this I did not really understand. hilarious video. I'm glad you're safe. ohh you definitely owe Sara $500 🤣🤣
The cabin looks great.
Good safety how not-to😎. Thanks for showing the whole thing.
Dam your first idea on the hoist was nice I thought you had it 1st try. . Time to brag to the wife 😂😂. I count it as a success.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching your ingenuity at work. Even though it was dangerous, you learned a lot not just about building a hoist but also about physics, and the way things work. Yes someone would say you got lucky, but you also learned a lot. So I’ll be optimistic and say hey you gained a lot of wisdom and experience by doing this, good work. Even though it failed and it was extremely dangerous, you nailed it. It’s simple trial and error but just be careful… My heart stopped a few times watching this video lol but you live and learn
In the same situation I use two "A" frames braced together and crossed braced. I truly admire your " just do it " style......
Glad you didnt get hurt Matt! Scared me there on the first attempt.
This is fun and entertaining to watch and all but not worth the risks Matts.
Hey, lessons learned man. The main thing is you were unharmed during the process and its content haha. Had me at the edge of my seat and took me back to some of the sketchy stuff I did on a few projects with an old buddy of mine. Keep up the content!
continuing this video from the one on the main channel feels so niceeeeeeeeee
Congrats on the new toy!
All I got to say is you got er done, Matts!
Merry christmas and good luck in the new year
You live and you learn. Nice job. Not many people would be in that situation and think about building their own hoist. So good for you. I know I’d be in the same boat haha.
What’s have we learned from this ? Rent another trailer and a Forklift. But loved ❤watching it made me remember when I was a kid. Trying to find a Free way to do stuff. Good job.
I would like to bring up the three-fingered farmer. He is that way because he had to figure out how to make the difficult, work, because he thought he could not afford to get the correct equipment to do the job. with just a little bit of calling around and planning you could have paid someone to deliver this to your house and set it down where you wanted it. yes it costs money but money is easier to come by than seven fingers. I love you and have been watching you from the very beginning. never put money before safety. You are worth to much. even to an old man like me. keep up the great work you are doing. I just don't want you to go threw any more surgeries or injuries. You could have just disconnected the trailer until you got the proper equipment to off load the trailer.
You living dangerously dude
You say you don’t know what you’re doing but you do it really good at the end of the day. With NO help! Very impressive, man!
Cabin looks amazing!!
At least you got it figured out and done.
Yes Matt you said it correctly ! That was crazy dangerous!!! You almost got crushed ! It’s better to wait until the skid steer is repaired to lift the backhoe attachment !
dude house looks great... and I love your do it attitude... you just do things even if you dont know exactly how. you inspire me thanks
The cabin is amazing!! I’d love to make the trip to stay
Yeah ...As I was watching, I was so nervous for you. 😅 Four columns was a must. Just glad you didn't get hurt.
My boy Matts needs a big diesel 4x4 and you’ll fit right in up here
All looks awesome! Gonna need a more rugged vehicle to drive around there. Congrats with your ventures, Matts!
Every video is so spicy! Loving it.
Great content. Keep it coming!
This is awesome man !
Matt, how come you don't have a pick up truck? Gotta have one when you're in the woods it's😅
Research ... trial ... error ... ingenuity... damn good job ... on a budget.
I'm glad you're alright Matts, as entertaining this video was there were a couple of moments that me made me pucker up.
Matt we don’t need to watch videos of you working while on crutches on the property. that was close but you know what they say about close. Congratulations you got it done and thats what mattered.
Wow, but it worked. After this, getting the loader engine rebuilt should be easy peasy! right? I am sure it will be fine 👏👏
Brooo!! Your pretty smart handling that backhoe attachment! Hahaha that's cool. You ever need help with anything concrete holla bro 🤙🏽
You know.... maybe you can send this video to FailArmy and get some dollars for it (if they're offering, I don't know).
I wish I were taught things like this when I was younger (how to build and renovate a home, let alone fish and stuff). You got the maintenance man mentality, I can tell. You seem mechanically inclined and all. Big up. 👍
I love this !!!😅 I wish I was there to help!!
You're the Man . Thank you for sharing such an awesome feature. Please take a break and go catch you a huge delicious fish 🐟 ! Lol
You can get a gantry crane for like $500-$1000 so you can stay safe next time lifting heavy things off the trailer.
US Rental in Jackson, CA has forklifts for rent. Daily rental with delivery was $269 delivered to my friends place in Pioneer, CA.
What have we learned? Don't bet your wife, cause we always loose. That was a close one for your right leg bro had me cringe a little bit. Anyways stay safe out there and have a blessed day. Aloha from Kansas
wasnt a dumb idea man you had to do it with what you had laying around and im glad it all worked out in the end and glad you didnt hurt yourself. hows ur pocket though? lol!🤣👍👍
Good stuff got the job done, Living the dream! I stay not to far from the area if Im not mistaken hope to meet the man one day 😎 Keep it up Brahhhh!
Love your honesty!!!
LOL bro. This looks like an episode of 101 ways to die.😂
At least start wearing some gloves Matt.😂😂
All you need now is a little bit of butter and you’re all set! Lol
8:40 was so glad you reinforced the structure, then you say you don't know what you're doing LMAO I died
So are you gonna do any salt water charter package cause I’d love to come there and go out on your boat and catch a halibut
A little sloppy but you did the damn thang !!💪🏽😤. Love watching these videos of you working on your land.
Don't matter how you did it the important thing is you did it. all by yourself congrats.
I’m really surprised that carport didn’t come down with it!! Just barely missed the support when it all fell apart lol
Matts, im utterly speechless. the moment i start see you set it up, i was like..ooh noooo Heavy equipment is no joke.. its not the time to save money when it comes to your life..
I did the same thing last Sunday
To
Offload some granite slabs
Tho
I was a wee’bit more elegant
You can pickup some nice forklifts, tractors, and such at various local online auctions
For around a grand, and up.
And
Please never turn your back, or get under
Things
That will fold, spindle, and mutilate you.
The place looks awesome!
The worst thing to do is tell a man he can't do something.....Prove her wrong! *we know you will
lol, I done some crazy DIY builds. This takes the cake. If you need some help with a project on the ranch, I would be interested in volunteering.
Biggest mistake was making a bet with the wife. No matter if you’re right or wrong you’re always wrong haha everything looks awesome!
"bet me $500 of my own money" l.m.f.a.o. my wife and I have the same dynamic when she "treats me to dinner"
And we stay married to them forever. LOL
H e a v y equipment And pajamas Just crazy.
You possibly could have used the Bob Cat and hook up and get it off, I would have tried that first., Heavy equipment is no joke, please be careful in the future, what you need is a forklift for the job's ahead.
Nearly a snapped leg but man got the job done 🤘🤘🤘
Glad you tried. Pay the winner
Matt, having worked in the building trades for almost ten years, one of the first things they taught us as an apprentice is to recognize and keep your body parts out of pinch points. I have a feeling you are going to be doing a lot more work on your property, so please slow down and take the time and watch some safety videos. It would be a good idea to start with pinch points. Your family is depending on you,so please don't put you success at risk.
Matts you couldn’t bring it down the same way it was brought in?
You have me laughing so hard. I would have done the same thing if I were alone. Good job!
wow!! talk about dangerous and nail biting vlog.. The part where you ankle could've snapped was like OMG! you said skidsteer and immediately thought of Jeremy Renner accident, please be careful.. BUT still the best vlog..
Hello. This is Fred from Cal/OSHA. I would like to have a word with you at your earliest connivence in regards to your safety training program….. 😮😂
ho ho im with the union 😂 if you do a stunt like this on a job site, safety guy will kicked you out on the spot 😂 pls be safe!
😮 this should have been an April's fool video. I am in shock
Yo! I was just there at the cabin!
That was AWESOME
Dude is like me having to do everything myself 😂😂😂
I can give you a pair of leather gloves. Just glad that you survived that . Disappointed to not see what you will be connecting it too, but I guess that's a future video.
bro we need some fishermanslife uploads
That was too close and reckless. Part of being a man is being humble enough to ask for help or seek knowledge. Stay blessed and safe, WOW!
😮😮😮😮4000 dollars for a blown up skidsteer omg! Dude got robbed!
You gotta pay up man…wife deserves the $500 that first attempt was almost deadly 😂
I don’t think you understand how dangerous that was
haha I thought just lifting up the beam from the ground was dangerous and then it got much much worse
0:42 it wasn’t Eureka it was Crescent City about 45 to hour north of Eureka. I grew up in Eureka and drove up to Crescent City to visit friends and family.
Heck yeah
