That this lady (and she IS a lady - among many other things) could pen this song at the age of 32 when only now in my mid-50s do I feel it - I mean REALLY feel it - and therefore understand it is another testament to her sensitivity, poesy, intellect and artistry. So...um...where's HER Nobel Prize?
This song shows off the strength and beauty of Mitchell's young voice more than any other. Those sustained notes that she sings are beautiful. I wish she had sung more songs like this. She gives Karen Carpenter competition for "most beautiful voice ever". Carpenter's singing didn't have as much emotional depth.
I don't know what a "demo version" is, but the vocals in this version are the same as on the album. The background instrumentation is slightly different; the guitar has a looser sound.
Her golden period for me. 70 to 75 she was so brilliant.
My favorite album from joni is hejira in 76

Autostade, Joni was always ahead of her time, much more mature than her years indicated.
Oh, these lyrics. Just.... perfect. "I lay down golden in Time and woke up vanishing." !! Thank you, Joni.
she was really sumzing !!!
so beautiful to hear this first cut before it received a wonderful polished studio production......both versions stunning.
There isn't a word to do justice to the mood and feeling Joni has realised through this composition.

This is NOT a demo. It's the album version minus the fade-in, and it runs a bit longer.
Well said, Peter. The original is 4.12. Not sure about he "ooooos" at the end, think I still prefer the original...
ok
An interesting mix, without the guitar and other parts. The key sounds a little lower?
