Am I imagining it, or is the legend choosing how he hits each wave? He never gets out of rhythm, so I think it’s skill.
If you watch his throttle hand you can see him cut throttle at certain points. Definitely skill. With his control I think his objective is to keep the prow up and he does a damn good job of it.

Black top legend is a Boston Whaler Montauk. I owned a 17 and a mid 70s Outrage 21. More seaworthy than those 60 ft Beasts. Just spending millions doesn't make you Popeye

I think he must have coated it in epoxy or some type of resin so it's a hardshell that just looks like a canvas Bimini
I have same boat, impressive Bimini system. Center straps go to console and then back straps. I pull my self out of water holding onto Bimini frame and barely moves. no rattling when driving. You get what you pay for with these Montauks.

The guy in the little single Whaler owned the boat and the waves simultaneously. He read the waves very well and understood fully the capabilities of his vessel.
Capt rain suit took it to Haulover and anytime we get to see the Black top Legend it’s a win for the boats!

Boston Whalers are built to fly like that! They give you that confidence to perfect your driving skills because hull integrity is not an issue. Once you learn how the boat handles, you can pick and chose your jumps. That's why they're so expensive!
Same with Edgewaters. My old 155cc with the 90 Yamaha handled that shit even better because it’s a whaler with a V Bottom. People thought I was crazy as a kid jumping waves out Hillsboro inlet
@@mileslumpkin9500 Thanks, I'm pretty sure the guy that started Edgewater boats worked at Boston Whaler for years prior. A dealer told me that back in the late 80's at a Florida boat show.

Having piloted everything from an 11 foot dingy to a Montauk 17 to a 21 foot Boston Whaler in some of the narliest conditions I can say that they are some of the best boats out there.
I think the boats won every round this time... I didn't see one boat take water over the bow. The 2nd guy took it slow but he knew what he was doing! Props to all 5 of them!
I concur. I think the Captain of the Tidewater did a fine job of not getting the snot kicked out of him and the boat. I thought it was quite skillful on his part on how he picked his line of travel. He did not stuff the bow, and he did not have the transom get pushed up higher than the bow. He could've rode more of the wave than the trough, but he found the sweet spot for him. I give him the win over Haulover Inlet too.
If Blacktop ever gets a 200 on the back he will go into low earth orbit!

That guy it the Boston Whaler owned it. The old whaler takes a beating. A friend of mine had on 13 footer when we were kids and we beat that boat to death and it took everything we gave it. We would follow 30 and 40ft boats up the river jumping their wakes. So much fun.

when my Wife and I saw the blacktop legend we were cracking up, we do the same thing in our 17.5 Wahoo (boston whaler) in the Hillsboro inlet It's a Gas!!
black top legend It is skill I've been surfing small boats in the boca inlet and Hillsboro inlet since I was 12 I'm now 65 and my knees are fine LIve fun!!

Dude. Being from Fort Lauderdale. This is nostalgia. Awesome camera work. Also the first-ever boat is always a Boston-Whaler. Easy to use, forgiving, and reliable. They love the swells of the coastal oceans.

Black top legend - Boston Whalers are indestructible. 50 years ago my dad bought a 17' whaler that my 4 brothers & I used & abused & it is still going strong at my youngest brothers place on Cape Cod.

Blacktop shows the value of trimming your boat right for the conditions and driving it right for the trim. Though I did see the motor shaking a bit around 1:42 I bet the transom is none too happy about those shock loads.

Black top comes thru on calmest day of all the clips. That's how he makes it so easy.
Boats win! The one guy coming in when Haulover was baring its teeth did good. He didn't let the following sea overtake him (causes total loss of control) and most of the time he was overtaking swells. If he rolled over one much faster he easily could have stuffed the bow, which would slow him down and then the following sea would have had him.

Black top. Light weight and power to weight is perfect.
That was a 50 /50 I recon, boats did fairly well. Good entertainment seeing skipper's actually handling the boats, not the sea state dictating the out come. More of these are a good idea.
