    Many years ago when I worked at Apple in France a small team of us, Oren Ziv, Dot Bustello, and myself helped out Apogee on their stand at the Musicmesse in Frankfurt. I can add further praise to Betty Bennet: Over and above her business and technical skills, she is absolutely hilarious and great fun to be around.

    I'm an Apollo user these days but I started out my studio with a Digi002. A year or so in, I added an Apogee Rosetta to take over the clocking duties, I was blown away at how the audio became three dimensional with a much larger soundstage. At that instant, I understood the value of accurate clocking.

    Amazing stuff ❤ i started my journey with sound blaster , Roland sound cards then EMU systems and Maudio gear but when I get my first apogee duet FW that was blow my mind what a great AD and DA conversion 😮 my quest were done I just enjoy that wonderful sound … the pres with 65db of gain what looked so simplistic one rotary encoder just amazing user experience 😊 I still have my duet fw works with some complaining about drivers but love to this guys 🎉by the way in the video you showed the wrong ensemble which came after… the Big Ben wow what a monster innovative thing like those filters insane legacy… finally I say that now I use RME products which I hope doing any video sooner because I think they did important things like zero latency tech 🤓 and great interfaces and adda converters mic pres … and still doing amazing job on this days! 😀

    My Rosetta 800 has been the backbone of my little home studio for nearly 20 years. I've changed the power transformer once, in that time and it's been like clockwork. The soft limit is my secret weapon with even totally sequenced electronica songs going out to analog and back into the Rosetta for extra kick.

Myself and my wife have just updated our interfaces to the Duet 3 LE which come with the Dock and we absolutely love them. Call me silly i built an 8th order sweepable low pass filter on my last year at uni ..the C777 clock is higher frequency than the 555 ...which has a tendency to creep into the upper part of the audio spectrum ..when the filter is filtering around the bass area. You use other filters to filter out the clock noise. Apogee were clever and used a higher frequency clock which didn't do this ..negating the use for other filters.
    Expertly explained ...big love.

    Apogee sure deserves all the praises, a exceptional company. I could not do without my Apogees. Even my very first Duet 2 is still working like a charm and serves me well. I briefly had a Antelope Discrete 8. It was ok and sound-quality wise up there with Apogee. Yet too many small issues from drivers to software and DSP aka Antelopes AFX2DAW got me to drop it and come back to Apogee Symphony.

    • @annekedebruyn7797
      @annekedebruyn7797 ปีที่แล้ว

    Love it you are covering the technical history of the digital age.....the story is a great example of the importance of "the bureaucratic hive mind groupthink" of Sony versus individuals trusting their own judgement, and there own ears, and innovating, and commercializing their innovation. Small business private enterprise more often than not lies at the heart of technological innovation.......
    Other pioneering digital audio company that I would love to hear about the personal details of the history is Digidesign, and Dolby Labs.
    (And on the subject of early tape machines, I've always wondered about the history of Ampex.)

İ think back then producing music was completely a priviledge to some people with lots of money , a talented team, critical friemdships etc. Now its so much simpler. You would know better than anyone that now anyone can produce pro quality music with a tiny fraction of what would they have spent 20-30 years ago. İ appreciate that. İ dont care who did first but thanks got they did😊.

    I hate using the word “best” when it comes to certain types of gear because sometimes it’s up to the user and what’s best for them , but the Symphony Desktop is the best interface I’ve ever used or owned personally. I have several Apogee products and it’s been my choice for getting sound recorded into my Daws since 2014, starting with the Apogee Jam 96k and the Apogee Mic 96k, then moving to the Duet for IPad and Mac, and eventually updating to the Jam + and the Mic +, and finally the Symphony Desktop a little over 2 years ago. I'm still working on an ensemble firewire(2006)! still sounding great! Mr Warren do you think there is a huge difference between these converters and the converters you can find on high end interfaces in 2024? thanks so much!

    I would love to hear about spectrasonic 610 compressor and the companies other products. I don't think their products are surpassed yet.
    And then there is DBX. I mean they were a mainstay in many racks.
    And maybe something very unknown.... audio drivers on the Mac and Windows platform. On both you now can get boxes that install without drivers and work...

    There is one person that has to be mentioned in this context and that is the wizard himself, the amazing engineer Lucas van der Mee, who is responsible for the circuitry design on many of the classic Apogee products. He is also a very nice person!
