You asked for different ways to remove the blower wheel or fan from the motor shaft . Years ago in the 80s, when I was starting in the HVAC field an old timer taught me a trick because I was tearing up the blower motor fan on a furnace. Lol His trick was to loosen the set screw and place an old socket over the shaft onto the collar of the fan, hitting it with a hammer to drive the fan blade just a little bit further down onto the shaft. Then use sand paper to clean the old motor shaft before attempting to remove it. There's always a rust or dirt line around it. When it's clean then I spray it with oil before I attempt to remove it by gently prying it from behind with 2 screwdrivers. You may already do this but it's worked for me for a long time. You have the best repair videos I've ever seen online for this type of repairs. Thank you for taking the time it really helps me.

This is a great video, helped me more than I am able to put to words. Just a note, when he says that the exhaust fan can be a problem believe him. Took me every bit of 30 minutes. Putting that worm gear clamp back on is not child's play either.

Anyway I digress. Yes when will these young kids work as hard as people from or how we were raised. That's the biggest challenge I ever renovation modeling business and I've rental properties. I just ran through this process. Worked perfectly, almost. I didn't quit get the plug back onto the control board all the way so the heater ignored the thermostat and just kept running. Supper easy fix. Plug it in all the way. Recomendation: I think you should buy the smaller blower fan (the one on the right for the fire box) just in case you break the old one. Just return it if you don't need it, but the only one is a pain to get off the shaft. I'm very thankful I found this video. My repaired heater works great now, and so quiet.
Glad I found this video great job I've had a fair run with my camper lately for some reason or another this all happened recently the converter quit and stopped charging I replaced it $450, the next day the thermostat quit I replaced it with a Honeywell residential worked great, 2 days later the blower started screaming like this one did, I kinda took it apart and lubed it just to buy time over the weekend and now it fires for about 5 mins and starts blowing cold for a couple mins and kicks on again repeatedly...I get all my new parts tomorrow!! Doing the whole job every piece is getting replaced now I know what they all so huge help thank you

Yes indeed, you are correct. I have a gas sniffer, you may have seen in some of my other videos, and once I run the system I do a sniff test with that device. Thanks for the comment happy camping.

Well just my two cents. Sounds like a different issue that you might have to search. The guy's pretty busy. Just saying. So just Google and TH-cam it. Who knows. He might even have that issue covered in another one of his videos, but just research your challenge. I'm just lucky I found this video took me several hours. I'm just going to have to pull up a stool and play this video like 20 times for a rewine paws or wine paws. But I'll get it. I'm being lazy. I'm using voice text and I'm not spell checking but you get the gist. Yeah I've had a couple people look at it and they said I had to cut out the old refrigerator. It wasn't worth it. Everything needs to be replaced. It's old. I'm so glad I found this video!

Awesome, very informative. Keep the videos coming. I had the same problem with the high limit switch. The burner kept going on and off and it would never get to temp inside the coach. What I ended up finding out was only 4 of the 5 ducts were only hooked up . As soon as I hooked up the 5th duct to the basement off the coach, it worked flawless. Just a tidbit of info for ya. Keep up the great work.

Hi, that was very helpful, our fifth wheel was vandalized a while ago, furnace wires pulled out as well, your video helped me wire it back up, as well as changing out the motor or other parts for the furnace. Thank you.
Great videos, it helped me diagnose a rusty burner like this one had on my 18 year old RV. Because of it's age and since I had everything out, I replaced the ignitor and valve assembly too. As for replacing a motor, since you have everything out, I'd go ahead and replace the limit switch. It's only $20 bucks on Amazon, but will save you the labor cost of doing all this again later. That's cheap insurance compared to losing your heat in the middle of the night and having to call a repairman to diagnose and replace it. Generally, labor costs are far more than parts cost, so if you're taking everything apart, might as well invest a few extra bucks, especially for older RVs.

The way that high temp sensor is buried and with the wires bypassing it. I think I would have tested or just replaced it to be absolutely sure I wouldn't have to tear it apart a second time. Great channel, Subscribed

I'll tell you it took me several hours to keep searching. This is a great video. Yeah it started squealing really loud. + This is what I have to take care of. The challenge is this elderly woman who I run it to. There's trees and bushes in that area so. I can do it but I have to clear an area. I digress. You just got to take your time and I wish they made it easy. I was thinking maybe I just shoot some lithium grease in that bearing. There's no way to get to it without pulling it apart and if I pull it apart I might as well change it. That's what I was thinking but it's just a nightmare. Just a lubricate it and it's forget it. Anyway, thank you very much. This is a great video and I was a little like I don't feel like doing that. Then I look at labor prices and I could do it but I don't want to but it would motivated me is this is real time. Anyway thanks so much and I got to stop being being lazy the thing is I've been doing this all my life. It's almost like I don't have to but labor prices are crazy. My 1998 companion kit fith wheel camper has a Atwood Mobile Products 8525 - iii furnace in it. I live in my camper and here in central Wyoming it gets very cold during the winter so having my furnace working is extremely important and your video seriously helped me get it back up and running like new
I also installed a 8kw diesel heater as a backup to the furnace. I got one of the cheap Chinese diesel heaters and I think all in it cost me $150 but it works really well and it wasn't that hard to instal.
Great video. I am just completing a 85531ivDCLP. Some differences from your video but very helpful. I struggled to get the cover off of the fan housing because there are differences between your video and this unit. I ended up removing the furnace which sucked! Getting the small fan off was a chore hahahaa. After loosening the allen then holding the big fan and rocking the small fan CCW and CW starts to loosen. I also used PB blaster and some fine emery cloth to remove the rust from the end of the small fan shaft. That was tedious but worked, glad I was not working by the job..hahaha Next observation I had was the limit switch you pointed out is not accessible without separating the fan housing and the ducting heat chamber. uggg. There is also an air baffle for the left end of the big fan. It is held in place when you put the fan cover back on that your video does not have One other thing is some of the screws are different sized in thread size so attention needs to be made and keep track of which goes where. Thank you for spending your valuable time to make your many useful videos. .

You asked for suggestions on removing the larger squirrel cage- I loosened the Allen screw, supported the whole shebang on three blocks of wood with the motor down and the blower cage resting on the blocks, took a hammer and screwdriver and placed the blade of screwdriver on the end of the shaft, tapped a few times, and it slid right off the cage👍

Putting direct current is the best way to check last year my blower went out in my car so I put direct current to it and it wouldn't work so I bought a new and bam good to go

12:50 my fan right there, actually slid to the left and started rubbing the housing.. melting to it. Like that clip wasn't tight enough. Initially I thought the motor was shot w all the squealing n blown fuses, but thankfully that fan only needed an adjustment.

Model 8520 - IV - DCLP MFG. ~1998 I only needed a new gas valve. The motor needed a bit of lubricant on the bearings. It is a sealed unit so cannot be disassembled because the cover is staked in place. The sail switch, motor, burner, and igniter were all in excellent shape. As a E/M Designer, by trade, I'd like to have a 5 minute conversation with the guy who designed this thing. Got his degree from a Sears Roebuck catalogue. Literally took hours to disassemble, repair, and reassemble mainly due to the poor engineering. Functionally great but lacking in repair-ability. WORD TO THE WISE: Before you start, make sure all of your tools are magnetized or suffer the frustration of trying to get the screws back into their nearly inaccessible holes. Also, get a set of line wrenches/flare nut wrenches. before you start. Got a set at Harbor Freight which covers ten sizes. 1. The screws holding on the squirrel cage/motor housing cover have no clearance for a socket. Thin wall recommended. 2. Besides the clamping scheme, the motor was held in with a retainer that was impossible to replace once removed. I guess the factory has a tool to hold it in place during assembly that is not afforded to the rest of us. Luckily, I was able to remove the squirrel cage to access the motor and discover what was holding it in place. Threw that retainer in the trash. 3. In addition, my furnace has a ring that goes over the intake that has to be balanced in place on the fixed half of the housing while the removable portion is Jengaed into place and the juggling act with the screws can be performed. 4. The fittings for the gas and burner orifice were assembled with Grey Goose joint compound which required a torch to disassemble. I reassembled both with yellow Teflon tape. Having been in engineering since the late 60's I know that Teflon tape existed long before this furnace's late 90's assembly date.

The way that high temp sensor is buried and with the wires bypassing it. I think I would have tested or just replaced it to be absolutely sure I wouldn't have to tear it apart a second time. Great channel, Subscribed

I'll tell you it took me several hours to keep searching. This is a great video. Yeah it started squealing really loud. + This is what I have to take care of. The challenge is this elderly woman who I run it to. There's trees and bushes in that area so. I can do it but I have to clear an area. I digress. You just got to take your time and I wish they made it easy. I was thinking maybe I just shoot some lithium grease in that bearing. There's no way to get to it without pulling it apart and if I pull it apart I might as well change it. That's what I was thinking but it's just a nightmare. Just a lubricate it and it's forget it. Anyway, thank you very much. This is a great video and I was a little like I don't feel like doing that. Then I look at labor prices and I could do it but I don't want to but it would motivated me is this is real time. Anyway thanks so much and I got to stop being being lazy the thing is I've been doing this all my life. It's almost like I don't have to but labor prices are crazy. So now I got to get back to work and do this but anyway so I may not be able to do it. And as long as your video and it's hooked up to power so I don't think I'm going to have to worry about. Well I'll see. Sorry for the long voice text and half the time is preparing the area so I can get to it Bush's etc. And maybe nice little chair and a shade. It's hot in Florida. My 1998 companion kit fith wheel camper has a Atwood Mobile Products 8525 - iii furnace in it. I live in my camper and here in central Wyoming it gets very cold during the winter so having my furnace working is extremely important and your video seriously helped me get it back up and running like new

I also installed a 8kw diesel heater as a backup to the furnace. I got one of the cheap Chinese diesel heaters and I think all in it cost me $150 but it works really well and it wasn't that hard to instal.

Great video. I am just completing a 85531ivDCLP. Some differences from your video but very helpful. I struggled to get the cover off of the fan housing because there are differences between your video and this unit. I ended up removing the furnace which sucked! Getting the small fan off was a chore hahahaa. After loosening the allen then holding the big fan and rocking the small fan CCW and CW starts to loosen. I also used PB blaster and some fine emery cloth to remove the rust from the end of the small fan shaft. That was tedious but worked, glad I was not working by the job..hahaha
Next observation I had was the limit switch you pointed out is not accessible without separating the fan housing and the ducting heat chamber.
uggg. There is also an air baffle for the left end of the big fan. It is held in place when you put the fan cover back on that your video does not have One other thing is some of the screws are different sized in thread size so attention needs to be made and keep track of which goes where. Thank you for spending your valuable time to make your many useful videos.

I have watched countless videos of yours, extremely informative, thank you for your time. Just to add for beginners of repairs check for gas leaks with soap after reattaching a gas line.
You asked for suggestions on removing the larger squirrel cage- I loosened the Allen screw, supported the whole shebang on three blocks of wood with the motor down and the blower cage resting on the blocks, took a hammer and screwdriver and placed the blade of screwdriver on the end of the shaft, tapped a few times, and it slid right off the cage👍

I like the trick with the 12V battery pack used to turn the furnace on and test it. Very slick.
Putting direct current is the best way to check last year my blower went out in my car so I put direct current to it and it wouldn't work so I bought a new and bam good to go

12:50 my fan right there, actually slid to the left and started rubbing the housing.. melting to it. Like that clip wasn't tight enough. Initially I thought the motor was shot w all the squealing n blown fuses, but thankfully that fan only needed an adjustment.
How the heck does anyone give this a thumbs down? I took the wing nut off my exhaust pipe but never could get it out. I have an 8900 model.

Model 8520 - IV - DCLP MFG. ~1998
I only needed a new gas valve. The motor needed a bit of lubricant on the bearings. It is a sealed unit so cannot be disassembled because the cover is staked in place. The sail switch, motor, burner, and igniter were all in excellent shape.
As a E/M Designer, by trade, I'd like to have a 5 minute conversation with the guy who designed this thing. Got his degree from a Sears Roebuck catalogue. Literally took hours to disassemble, repair, and reassemble mainly due to the poor engineering. Functionally great but lacking in repair-ability.
WORD TO THE WISE: Before you start, make sure all of your tools are magnetized or suffer the frustration of trying to get the screws back into their nearly inaccessible holes. Also, get a set of line wrenches/flare nut wrenches. before you start. Got a set at Harbor Freight which covers ten sizes.
1. The screws holding on the squirrel cage/motor housing cover have no clearance for a socket. Thin wall recommended.
2. Besides the clamping scheme, the motor was held in with a retainer that was impossible to replace once removed. I guess the factory has a tool to hold it in place during assembly that is not afforded to the rest of us. Luckily, I was able to remove the squirrel cage to access the motor and discover what was holding it in place. Threw that retainer in the trash.
3. In addition, my furnace has a ring that goes over the intake that has to be balanced in place on the fixed half of the housing while the removable portion is Jengaed into place and the juggling act with the screws can be performed.
4. The fittings for the gas and burner orifice were assembled with Grey Goose joint compound which required a torch to disassemble. I reassembled both with yellow Teflon tape. Having been in engineering since the late 60's I know that Teflon tape existed long before this furnace's late 90's assembly date.
