This is great! I am a huge fan of Alice. I met and watched Linda Lavin perform 3 years ago in Palm Springs Piano/Singing set just like she did in Alice
Thanks for sharing your experience and visit with us all. I grew up as a kid watching the old reruns and I enjoyed this show a lot. So many memorable quotes from the show still used today. Thank you so much.
Thanks for taking us there. Watched the show a lot in syndication in afternoons when I was a kid. Memorable episodes was when Mel bought a Porsche and when Tommy got the dirt bike and broke his leg.
The wife and I went here for breakfast a few years back. After looking around however, I lost my appetite. I think Mel was the last one to clean the place. Looks like it has been fixed up a bit. Love your show Jason
Having starred in classic films such as THUNDERBOLT AND LIGHTFOOT,MANSION OF THE DOOMED(truly one of producer[/filmmaker] Charles Band's best [yet darkest and bleakest] films)),BLOOD AND LACE,and LEPKE,actor Vic Tayback was truly The Man as ALICE helped get Vic widely recognized as a respectable actor with an impressive film resume(as well as his Mel's Diner and his Mel's Famous Chili[which I hear was actually pretty damn good]). ALICE was also a damn great show, too(and I hear that ALICE DOESN'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE is also an equally great film). Peace to the late great Linda Lavin.
This is also the diner in that Charles Bronson goes into in the 1979 movie Love and Bullets. Near the beginning of the movie. When Charles Bronson's cop friend blows up in the cop car in the parking lot.
Pretty cool!...I didn't know...That show was perfectly cast and pretty funny as I remember...there was also a spin-off of the show called "Flo" (80-81).
Via roadside architectures website: Mel's Diner was installed here in 1963 as Lester's Diner. I don't know what company manufactured the diner. The owner, Lester Bammesberg, later opened three other Lester's Diners. The diners in Bryan, OH and Fort Lauderdale, FL are still operating and have signs with the same design. The third diner in Daytona Beach, FL is still there but has been converted into Surplus Unlimited, a boat supply store. In 1970, this diner became Glenn's Diner and then Chris' Diner. The name and sign were changed to Mel's Diner for the TV show "Alice". The sign appeared on the show but the filming did not take place here. The diner changed names a few times after that. Sometime after 2003, it became Mel's Diner again. In 2019, the sign and building were repainted.
Did you watch the Clint Eastwood movie called the Gaunlet? They film some of the movie in Phoenix. The ending where he drives the bus up to is the police station, which was The Phoenix Civic Plaza. They have removed the building, and I don't know if any of the Plaza remains. I haven't been downtown for about 12 years. A scene from the movie American Ninja where one ninja was chasing after another ninja frim a top a large building, anyway the fire escape stairwell and door out to the ally was Phoenix Job Corps. Which is still there today.
I remember a bit of the TV show Alice there were a lot of good TV shows in the 1980’s my favourite was The Dukes of Hazzard I thought the General Lee car could fly. I think Flo from Alice will be saying her famous saying of (KMG TH-cam liked version of the original) to when she sees the long list of coffees now available at Starbucks and if she has to make and serve all of these coffees she will be telling Mel to really KMG I do not get paid enough to make and serve all of these coffees.
Thanks for the video. I had no idea “Mel’s” sign still existed. I used to watch the show when I was a kid, but thought it was dumb. I watched a few episodes recently, and actually laughed. Beth Howland was hilarious flinging straws everywhere in the opening sequence. It’s strange how perspectives change with age. It was the same with Three’s Company. I thought it was so dumb - and it was - but I find myself laughing at those old reruns.
@@ScarlettEmeraldASMR Umm he paid to take a ride from a stranger. DO you think all Lyft and Uber drivers are safe? I have experiences that say they are not in spite of them being vetted.
I remember when Arlo Guthrie appeared as Alice's friend from back east. Alice had gotten involved with a local acting troupe, and Arlo came and sang a song. It's said that Alice was actually based on Alice Brock, and the movie Alice doesn't live here anymore was actually a Sequel of sorts to Alice's restaurant.
I loved this show, brings back childhood memories! RIP Linda

How cool, I wish I would have gone to see her
Thank you for this, grew up with this show.
I’m glad you enjoyed it and got to relive a moment in time
1:07 I lived in that green apt complex behind it for 2 years. Bad neighborhood but that diner has great food. Always busy as you can see
Very, very cool!!! Watched this and mommas family i believed it called back to back many times. Thank you for sharing 🙏

Tv isn’t the same
Preferred “Good Times”
Loved this show! Thanks for the flashback! ❤
Cool video my mom's favorite show we only had 6 channels back then'
Thanks for watching, those were the good ol’ days!
Thanks for taking us there. Watched the show a lot in syndication in afternoons when I was a kid. Memorable episodes was when Mel bought a Porsche and when Tommy got the dirt bike and broke his leg.
I'm glad you enjoyed the trip down memory lane and yes those are great episodes!
What a great show from our youth! Thanks for this video Jason! Brings back memories! ⚡️⚡️

loved Henry the phone company guy on that show. watched all the shows like you
oh yeah "kiss my grits" was a thing for us in elementary school back in '76 lol. Especially being from the south.
Haha I could imagine
Mel was a teddy🧸🥰
The cast worked so well. And there were SO many cameos and guest appearances.
Including Martha Ray as Mels mother.😊
I didn't know anything about Alice until 2001 i was 17 I watched a few episodes and got hooked

Yes short lived spin off FLO, I don’t remember it being very good unfortunately
@@WasteSomeTimewithJasonGreen Yeah, I always wondered why Flo didn't go back to Alice, cause Alice wasn't as good when she left either?...🤔
R.I.P. Linda Lavin

This was a truck stop back in the day..... the 60 was a major highway
I didn’t know that show was spun off from a movie…and now I do. 👍 Cool road trip and nice video. 😃
I saw the movie on TH-cam here last year and it was quite good. At least to me.
@ 👍
Glad to share that bit of trivia!

The biscuits and gravy is pretty sad too. Regardless , anytime I'm in the area, I stop in for something.
As bad as it may have been, I would go back and try to steal the menu

The next trip try the Bunkers house in New York City.
You never know
Awesome! Damn I think Polly is the only one left alive from this show now.
Polly from the original cast and Diane Ladd & Celia Weston from the later episodes
@ ah okay, I know Polly is every bit as old as Linda was. Flo was the best on that show! 😂
This is a great video. I still watch the show all the time.
I’m glad you enjoyed it, this was fun to do
Wasnt the food bad on the show too? They're just keeping it real 😂
True, it lived up to that expectation

I’m glad you enjoyed the video, it’s a different experience watching these shows as an adult
You took a Lyft here? Jason I am sure you have fans in big cities. Next time you need a ride to film something in Arizona, let me know.
He most likely wouldn't accept rides from a stranger
@@ScarlettEmeraldASMR Umm he paid to take a ride from a stranger. DO you think all Lyft and Uber drivers are safe? I have experiences that say they are not in spite of them being vetted.
Why did Flo leave the show?
For a spin off show called "Flo".Lasted one season only.
