20 years ago a friend and I took a train from Naples to Pompeii. It was warm so I opened my window and there were several older, local women across the aisle that motioned for me to lower their window as well. We struck up a very limited conversation with my poor use of the Italian language but they were very friendly. Later that evening we ran into those same ladies walking through the city and they met us with squeals of joy and hugged us like we were long last family. We were strangers that happened to ride a train together but you wouldn’t know it that day. 20 years later and I still think of it as a highlight to my travels. The destinations are incredible but the personal interactions are what make the best memories. Thanks for bringing this one back to me!

Dan and Chelle I absolutely loved your visit to Pompeii. For an 12 minute video and such a short visit you captured the atmosphere and history perfectly. I have followed your travels from you leaving Utah and am so enjoying visiting all these amazing places vicariously through you both and I can’t wait to see where next. Safe travels ❤

Somehow the rainy day seemed right to visit Pompeii. Seeing those figures of the people who died in the ash made me feel sad. Fascinating to get a glimpse of how people lived there all those years ago. Feeling a bit gloomy, but I did enjoy the day with you. Thank you!

We took our children about 12 years ago, and we found Naples, especially around the main station, to be dirty and full of pickpockets. However, once we got used to keeping our eyes open and eating later in the day, we had a good trip. I think Pompeii in the rain would be much better than in the 35 Celcius heat that we encountered.

I lived right outside of Naples for almost 6 years while I was in the US Navy Pompeii was one of my old stomping grounds I loved Italy I was there in 1980 to Nov 1985 I had an old Honda 500 CB and would travel all up and down the coast. Your travels in Italy are making me home sick.

Been there done that but with a 5 & 2 year old in tow - the willies on the floor pointing to the brothel were quite the challenge to explain to the 5 yr old 😅
Watch your stuff in Naples bikers known to come by at zebra crossings & rip necklaces off peoples necks! Theft is rife!

i went to pompeii before we we took the guided tourer. they even showed us the penis shaped carvings in the sidewalk that were meant to show the way to the brothels. i was a teenager then and that was the highlight of the tours lol. buts its amazing that pompeii still lies silent for years after the volcano wiped out everything.
