Our owner hasnt talked to the media in not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 years. Refuses to hire a president of hockey operations (only team in the league without one, and look how its going) and claims the answer to the current losing streak is "in the locker room". Him and kevyn adams refuse to make moves to help the team and only further prove their incompetence.
Furthermore, kevyn Adams claims players won't come here because "we have taxes instead of palm trees". Blatant excuses and disrespect to our city and team...from the 5 year gm.
The only constant throughout the 13, going on 14 year drought is Pegula. He needs to go, or nothing will change. #selltheteamterry

In a league that prior to 2022 sent more than half of its teams to the playoffs. Even now, half the teams in hockey qualify for the playoffs. I feel really bad for Buffalo fans. They deserve so much better than this team that's in the basement year after year. I started following hockey for real when I was nine in 2011. Because I live on Long Island, I took the Islanders as my team even though the Rangers were much better at that time. The Islanders are not exactly a top organization either, even though they now have UBS Arena. They still can't attract marquee free agents. Their drafting record is awful dating back to the days of Mike Milbury and Garth Snow. Their most notable free agent signing of 2024 was Anthony Duclair and he suffered a major injury just five games into the season and missed the next 28 games. He just returned to the lineup and had an assist on the first career goal of Isaiah George against Toronto.

“And after a promising start to this season” That’s VERY generous. Sabres only had 1 win after the first 6 games. They got it together in mid November and at their very best (November 23rd) the Sabres had 23 points in 21 games which put them on an 89-90 point pace. Unsurprisingly they only spent a few days in the playoff picture before getting sent right back into the basement. Technically the Habs spent more days in the playoff picture than the Sabres did. Only difference is the Sabres did it later into the season.

You were spot on with all your points. From the start, they haven’t done enough to surround the core talent with veterans and experienced players. And they created a culture of losing since the first tank, and that hasn’t recovered. Under Eichel, they failed to get a competent defensive core and create a experienced middle 6. Now, they have a roster full of young guys and have failed to surround them with again, experienced veterans. Zucker has been great, but we needed more than that. This team was a point out of playoffs two years ago and the city finally had hope again. Now we are back to being the bottom feeder. Sabres fans are at their breaking point. Buffalo is a top hockey market as well, so it’s sad. Not sure where they are going to go from here.

This was a great video. I'm a Sabres fan and have been since the 90s when the only player with 89 on my jersey was Mogilny. This team has me so down, and the year they just missed the playoffs by a point had me excited for the next season. Only to be severely let down. Adams seemed to be a good GM, but since last summer and this season with a terrible lack of picking up players to fill roles they need (esp with buying out Skinners contract) should have made at least a full 2nd line of pick ups and not just fill out the 4th line. Saying Buffalo isn't a destination to most players is true, only because of the mismanagement he and Pegula has done. Teams and players see this. The team has a lot of talent but with the team only having that talent with maybe 2 or 3 years learning (and learning from others that also have 3 years or less than themselves) how can they be expected to improve? Zucker is the biggest surprise and they need at least another 1 or 3 role players with experience in their lineup. The only thing they did do right was send Levi to Rochester this season to learn. I feel bad for Lindy, they didn't even let him bring in his own assistant coaches.

The problem with the Sabres rebuild is that they did not commit fully to it. They had an excellent stock of assets at the start of their rebuild. Then they mistakenly decided to "accelerate" it. The Jets don't compare to how bad the Sabres have been, honestly. The Jets would've made the playoffs a couple times during their drought if the NFL let half the teams in, like the NHL does. And the Sabres haven't just missed the playoffs. They've finished dead last. Again and again. One year in the whole streak could they have even been considered on the bubble. Since Pegula bought the team, they've been dead last overall in their league cumulatively, by a lot, so that they'll probably remain dead last throughout his tenure for a couple more seasons regardless of how things go from here. It sucks to be this bad. It sucks a little worse that nobody even appreciates how epically bad this team is. Just because another team out there has a similar playoff-less streak doesn't mean that they suck anywhere near as bad as the Sabres. The video, if anything, understates it.

Let's concentrate on the Flyers: In 2015 the Flyers drafted Ivan Provorov at 7th while Mikko Rantanen went at 10th to the Avs. Flyers drafted Nolan Patrick 2nd overall while Cale Makar went 4th to the Avs. Flyers drafted German Rubtsov 22nd overall while Tage Thompson went 26th in 2016. Tage luckily ended up on the Sabres. Had the Flyers drafted Cale Makar, Mikko Rantanen, and Tage Thompson the NHL would be completely different. If the picks were reversed the Sabres would be different. The Sabres traded 2nd overall picks Eichel and Reinhart. Eichel finished 1st in points and assists in the playoffs and Vegas won the Cup. Reinhart finished 2nd in the league with 57 goals and won the Cup with Florida. The Avs won the lottery and moved up to draft MacKinnon. The Sabres also drafted Dahlin instead of Quinn Hughes.

The most absurd scenario I can think of is Bettman urges Pegula to go suck an egg and sells the team to Toronto Sports and Entertainment. They make necessary moves. Consolidate their strength and let Lindy Ruff do his thing and then go on to win the cup before the leafs. They're technically in the race for who can win the cup first since the last leafs cup came the same year that the Sabres franchise started out

The first rebuild completely failed. When they traded/released players like Eichel, Reinhart, Montour, Ullmark. we felt like they had to rebuild from scratch. the core is interesting and we hoped for more consistency/efficiency from the young talent. Cozens, Peterka, Quinn, Benson, Byram, Power, Samuelsson, Levi, they all have underperformed this year.
bringing veteran to help build a win mentality, they tried it with Okposo, Skinner, Johnson, Hall, they all failed at one point.
I think they may have trouble attracting the good players to help rebuild the franchise. probably because Buffalo is one of the least favorite location for players from the league.
i'm no GM and don't know which players the team need. moreover, it's difficult to see this young talents struggling because at one point they will want to play for a winning team and ask to leave/be reluctant to get a new contract

They've scorched the earth so badly that Gen Z never even started watching hockey and a lot of the older fans wish the team would just fold or move at this point.
