245/75R16 is a nice size but only available in an LT which is super heavy and overly stiff for the vehicle weight. Heavy tires kill performance. I ran 255/70R16 Duratracs for 50k, they looked awesome, maxed out the wheel well, zero rubbing, and available in SL which is much lighter and more compliant (better off road). Now running 225/75R16 Duratrac for better mileage, also in SL, 50k so far and they will hit 55k+. Lots of towing and off highway use. 1.5” lift, 2001 AWD V6, no sway bar link modifications. Hopefully this is helpful to someone else! Great video, thanks!
I have LT265/75/17 and yes they rub. But it handles them just fine 20 miles of gravel daily little thing is actually impressive I don't try to but every once and awhile it will break them lose, and I realize that those big of tire are adding a lot of extra stress to the platform. But because of the gravel we have to run LT tire, we will just destroy a P rated tire in a very short time. And I don't want my wife having flat tires. But a LT245/65/17 is a better call no rubbing and and less stress on the platform. They are definitely a fun vehicles.
I have the stock setup on my 08’ 3L V6 4x4 Escape XLT…235/70R/16 tires on 16” stock rims. I think I can, but I’ll like to know if I can go 235/70R/17 on 17” rims or if I should stick with a 16” set up. My Escape is all gloss black with tinted windows and I can’t stand the silver rims. I want them black to match the rest. I’m also going to buy a set of Bfgoodrich KO2’s since I do a lot of overlanding.
Is there any more information you can give about wiring the rear diff to a switch that will allow you to lock it. I have a 2009 escape. 4x4 and I've done abunch to it but I have ran into the issue of the rear end only running like 40% power. I've heard your able to fully lock it I
Wanted to say thanks for your reply and I would appreciate a video when you find the time. I'm sure it will help all the escape fans. I haven't seen many videos with any aftermarket escape information. And 4x4 is critical...
I like what your doing with your escape. I have an 08 XLT, same color as yours. I am in need of new tires, and I was thinking, instead of having to buy new tires, I happen to have a set of 255/70/16s in my garage.. I have the 16 wheels already. Currently my tires are 235/70/16, so the only difference would be the width... do you think the 255 will rub ?
They would be 5mm closer to the rear trailing arms and also a bit taller and therefore even closer. You won't know for certain if they fit until you try. It will be close.
thank you for doing this to the very underrated escape!

Thanks for sharing! You're right about the sidewalls being stiff and the tires are heavy.

Very useful information! Thank you!

I wish i was half as tentative like u..such a great video..im thinking buying a 2010 or 2010 on this car
I say go with a 5th wheel tire rack installation and black gas jug a snorkel for water 4x4ing off road would be great content for the escape
I have a question. Do u know witch wire on the rear end is power and witch in ground
thanks for the info
have a 2011, being looking for an oil leak by the Ac Compressor it leak once in a while any idea what it is?
Did you have to recalibrate the speedometer for the bigger tires ???
You don't have to do anything. But larger tires do make the speedomoter read slower than your actual speed.
@@PaintedSpringsGarage I thought so. That the speedometer would read slower. Thanks for replying back
Did they rub at all? I have a 2008 hybrid i want to do this tire size on mine. Thanks
They don't rub at all.

I run battery power straight to the rear diff through a fuse, switch and relay. I'll do a video showing that someday.

I’m not sure if I missed it in the video or previous but did you have to put in a leveling kit to make these tires fit?
Nope. Stock suspension.
@@PaintedSpringsGarage awesome I’m definitely going to get my hands on some new shoes for my escape then!
Do you have a lift kit or is this stock
Stock suspension.

From what I gather, they would be 20mm wider, I could take some crude measurements but I don't know how accurate that would be

I have 255/70r16 on my 2011 and i have no rubbing issues at all on stock suspension
Yes they fit perfectly on 2001 AWD V6. I ran duratracs in that size for 50k.
With millions of 4x4 Escapes sitting in the junkyard waiting for good homes you decide to modify a 2 wheel drive Escape?? Why???
It's the one I had available
