Wouldn’t you have gotten two bullseyes on set 2 for the midnight squirrel? The one black and white half for one and the other two white halves for 2? The symbols on the card show the sides that can be used not the exact pattern they have to be.
You still would have needed the 3rd from the wild shot die but still important to know for future plays. The colors don’t need to match as shown on page 3 and in the FAQ on the design/game website.

You should place the discarded cards face up. That will keep the cards in proper numerical order when you turn them over and put away for next time.
