    I could be wrong, but when you were looking at the SWR on 10 meters, your mode was USB. The reading you were seeing were the audio no SWR. Don't you need to put the mode to AM in order to see the SWR on the FT-991A? I'm new at this and just got my FT-991A but that is what I have seen others do.

      The SWR will be read when you TX in any mode as long as you have the meter set to swr.. If you select the meter to any other like power, alc etc then it will show those items. But only when you TX.. If you're only receiving it will be the S Meter signal only

    I'm running a MFJ-1982M End Fed that does a pretty good job. In my HOA configuration (inverted V with a 90 degree turn end/end) it's almost perfectly resonant across 40M and has wide bandwidth/low SWR available on all other bands...except a favorite, 10M. My DX10 can tune all of 10M "except" the part of the band above 29.2. I know, I should be happy (I am) but I sure would like to be able to grab that upper portion of 10M. Is it worth $199? Maybe. Thanks for making this video.

      Depends on your needs really.. I use the external exclusively if I need to tune just cause it is so much faster than the internal tuner. I mean like 2 seconds and poof where the internal will go for what seems like forever... The only real reason I keep it though is cause I have nothing to tune 60m where some friends hang out... All my antennas are resonant now on most bands with exception of 17/and 12m and rarely ever use my efhw anymore. But I still keep the external tuner for 10m on my 40m delta loop cause it's about a 2:1..I didn't pay that much for mine. Bought it off a friend for much less. Maybe you could search around and find a deal

    La potencia del FT-991 se veía a 5 o 9W….. mientras la del otro radio estaba a 99W…. Por lo tanto, la respuesta de SWR, será siempre favorable a menor RF power…

    I am looking at buying the MFJ-939. Which version did you go with for the FT-DX10 or better yet, which cable between rig and tuner. You have a nice clean setup! Thanks and 73!

    I just bought the MFJ 939 for my FTDX-10. I have the 5114Y cable. I am confused on how the DIP switches need to be set. Using the cable, do the switches need to be changed at all? Thanks for the video!

      What model 939 did you buy? They are all basically the same but some come with the jumpers already configured for certain brands..

      I can look. But I'm pretty sure with thy dx10 the jumper 4 didn't matter.. And jumper 2 is on Y.. When you open it up you will see the jumper 2 towards the rear it will be a row of quite a few side by side and jumper 4 that's the grunt on the left side i think... You can't really mess it up. It will just not work if not on the right jumpers.. But jmp 2 is on Y

You will hear the tuner click on power up letting you know the radio has found it and they are talking to one another

    how high do you have your mfj1982 and do you ground it?

    • @AK4PJ
      @AK4PJ  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's in a inverted v configuration at about 33 to 35ft in center. But not just across a tree. I have a rope in between two trees with the wire going through it so that the antenna is clear and away from the trees. So it's out in the open.. No counter poise or ground on the unun itself. But the coax is grounded on a ground rod at a barrel connector just before entering the shack

      @@AK4PJ I have the MFJ1984 10-40 and no luck with it. It's 10ft to about 20 ft off the ground on the high end in a sloper. • @AK4PJ
      @AK4PJ  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thomashenderson603 my best results have been with the transformer higher of the ground. It's about 12ft right now. The middle of the wire is about 33ft or so and the end of the wire is about 8ft off the ground... My transformer is about 50ft away from the house with the antenna going even father away. I found with it close to the house I had more noise from the house. Getting it away from the house made the biggest difference on noise.. Getting the whole thing higher off the ground made it a whole lot less picky on tuning 10m....I've had mine in about 10 different configurations and inverted v away from trees made all the difference.. Swr is all dependent on its height and configuration. So it will change depending on any of those. Just have to play with it to see what gets your best results

    • @AK4PJ
      @AK4PJ  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nothing wrong with using a tuner to make your radio happy especially the internal which will only tune a 3.1 or under ..where it becomes not so good is when people use a really bad matched antenna with lots of power especially using amplifiers..all my antennas are resonant antennas with the exception of my efhw...but the tuner does nothing for a bad matched antenna other than making the radio think it's matched so you're still getting a lot of heat at the antenna ...best to have a resonant antenna

    I have bought the MFJ 929 to use it with my FT991 A, but it doesn't seem to work, since the SWR stays at 1,5 and all other values are at 0... After watching this video at th-cam.com/video/6V1kBVGK3E8/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=BarryKery, I still couldn't resolve the issue...

      Not sure of that model but should be the sane I would think.. I assume you have the interface cable.. Is the mfj tuner a yaesu version? I know on mine there are jumpers inside the tuner that have to be placed on the right jumper pins. May check that and make sure it's configured correctly for yaesu and a icom or something else...
