Thanks for the video. I went to NAHS from about 82-84. Me and a bunch of my Germany friends called ourselves the We-Rock Crew. That was the official beginnings of posses or crews as we called them. Gerhardthauptmann Strasse was my street. I lived in Victory Village fairly two footballs fields maybe more away from the PX. I tell everybody about Nurnburg, Furth, Kalb, Erlangen, Pastorius, Herzo, and Graph. I remember Graph because when my dad was in the field in Graph that meant we could hang out pretty late. From the video you showed it seems you lived almost on the economy or Germanside as we called it. You said you lived in the maid quarters, we called them Temps, that might rang a bell. Right where the auto-shop was which ran by Mr. Kerpen is where we entered school right alongside the basketball gym. This video brings back alot of memories I had Furth on my mind and ran into your video and extremely interested to see it. I miss that place I think everyone who ever stayed there does to some degree. I'm an Eagle for life that's for real. They tore down the PX man that's sad I still recognize the building though. Thomas Mann Strasse is where the buses would drop and pick up students I think. Germany has some of the best buses in the world. We lived in Temps and later on we moved closer to the school. I remember walking to the Adidas Factory me and my crew we were all over the place especially when one of the Fests were in town. We used to throw parties but mostly we used to break dance in the party rooms. Lots of changes, we didn't have a Pizza Hut, which is a slap in the face. Nurnburg has some of the best pizza I ever tasted way better than Pizza Hut. I think your Dad might have been an officer judging by your previous Nurnburg locale. Aafees. Yeah!!! Shout out to Sham-Rock Village. Thanks for sharing your video bro you have touched a lot of people through your efforts!!!

Omg!!! We lived at 12 Thomas Mann on the second floor wow that was a trip to see that we left in May 1974. I was 14 1/2. I just had my 64th birthday. Wow life just flies by!!!😊 thanks for showing all the stairwells so much has changed you ask about the balconies. We had a balcony off the back of our living room up there, but there were no rounded balconies like in that first building. I went to the 6th 7th and 8th grade in Nurnberg ❤

Thank you for doing this. Some of the best times of my life I had in Germany. We were there from 79-81. I graduated from the school. I was bussed from Erlangen each day. Long bus ride each day but our German bus driver didn't mind us talking if we were good - we were. NONE of us wanted to get kicked off the bus! Hard to explain being a brat to people.

Thanks for sharing the video from inside the school--truly a brave move dude. Visited the area in 2012 with my children but the bldg was locked. Went to Soldier field where we played our home football games. Attended NAHS while living in Bamberg in mid to end of the 70s. Bamberg students were known to be outta control--not all. History is that Bamberg students were staying at the dorms (two level brown bldg shown in your video) until they were kicked out due to setting it on fire. Next, Bamberg students were later using the train to commute daily until they were kicked off because of vandalizing. When I attended NAHS, we were bused on two separate buses (Rock bus & Soul bus). Type of music that was played in each bus. In 79, the CID started inspected our school bags for weapons/illegal things and in addition escorted us to school. Sad to say the CID used some of the most incompetent special agents to keep control. One agent tried to take control and initiate a No Talking on the bus policy and was laughed at by the majority. Caveat: Not every student from Bamberg were immoral/terrible! We were just military brats!
Automechanic teacher was Mr. Kerpen. Again, thx for the footage.

Went to the middle school and high school that were connected in the early 90s too. My friend Katie and I would eat brotchen, salami and pretzels for lunch in the school courtyard nearly every day. When he went out there I remembered exactly where we would sit. I wanted him to go up the first set of stairs, because I am pretty sure that was the 8th grade hall. When he went up the stairs of the main building so many memories came flooding back. I wonder what happened to Herr Koerner. I remember his little girl coming to class on their day off of school. She sat and laughed as she listened to us 8th graders read allowed. She thought it was funny she could read far better than we could. He was such a great teacher.

Lots of changes and improvements to the Kalb area.
The brown building set perpendicular to the right of the high school was the dorm for students coming in Monday-Friday from Bamberg, Hof and other outlying areas.
The high school was mostly housed in the same large front building, with shop classes in a separate ow-lying building to the right and rear. The parallel two-story building was the junior high. Behind that were some temporary structures where overflow for junior high. Beyond that was the elementary school. There was a single covered walk-way from the front of the jr high building to the backside of the main atrium of the high school.
Yes, the light-colored building was a small gym and field house. I used to practice tennis strokes against that exterior wall which is now fronted by a strip of grass. The gym floor was too small for much, so we trekked over to Darby Kaserne for much of our gym classes, and school basketball and wrestling competitions. It would appear as if the former tennis courts (2) and much of the sports field have been built over. The imposing fence along JFK Str. was not there in the 70s, or if it ran along the front of the elementary school, which faced JFK Str., it did not run as far as it does now, or was much shorter.
In the 1970s, the corner where the gas station/convenience store is was the base theatre. And yes, there was a Shoppette/Foodland there as well. Popsicles were $0.05, and an ice cream sandwich was $0.08. Behind the theatre and Foodland was a small open grassy area with playground equipment along one edge, swings, etc.; the field was used by AYA football teams for afternoon practices.
The large rooms on the 4th floor were, in my time, called common rooms.
The rounded balconies are new improvements. The field officer grade quarters facing Thomas Mann Strasse had balconies on the rear, rectangular in shape. Memory prompts me that the company grade housing across from the rear of the three (3) twin-stairwell buildings on Thomas Mann along Gerhart Hauptmann Str. may also have had balconies.
The barracks to which I think you were referring along Fronmuller Str was Darby Kasern.
    Thanks for posting.

The two-story brown building, directly to the right and perpendicular to the HS, was the co-ed dorm. As you faced the dorm from the front, males were to the left and females to the right with a common area in the middle. Washing machine and dryer, as well as a little snack shop, were in the basement. He comes up to the backside of it at 14:08. Student housing was not expanded off campus when I went to school here in the mid and late 70s. There were partially sealed underground tunnels which connected some of these buildings.

Thanks for the video and tour. Interesting that the school is so open and not locked up with security precautions like schools in the US are now, or even as the school as in the early 90's during Desert Shield. I think the small grocery store is where the shopette was, which I used to do bagging when doing fund raising for activities. The empty area / park is where the parade ground was for Darby Kaserne. The barracks and wall were around the parade grounds. Merrill Barracks was elsewhere in the area (don't recall where), but not in walking distance from Darby / Nurnberg High. I was there 1987-1992, when my dad taught some Auto Shop classes (but not the Auto Body Shop) as well as wood shop & drafting.

@@4fortheworld-travelandfood500 I was there from 73 to 77 graduated there. The 4th-floor ends were party roomes, I remember we called them something else. My Dad was the building coordinator. The center roomes of the 4th floor were what we called the Temps or temporary residence for G level families until regular housing became available. They were also dorm rooms right across from the school. I also had friends that stayed there as well. We use to climb out of the windows on to the clay tile roof and sit on top of the dormers, drink beer and some other such dumb stuff. I got caught in the party room ( not alone ) more than once. It was nice to have a father that was a building coordinator. I had keys to everything. Berry Berry and I could tell you some stories. Berry and I lived on the corner across from the PX. One of the motor pools was fenced off just behind the building to the front of ours. The AYA was on the other side directly in front of the PX and commissary and the fish and chip shop that set right up front and in the middle of the PX commissary parking lot. It would be easy to get turned around. My dad was NCOIC DCPA on base at Willam O Darby. I won't get into what all that means. I used to have a Honda 70 and I was all over the place. I guess that is part of the reason that I remember it so well. Do you remember the canal that was built over the highway the barges and boats use to pass through? I also remember the German Gardens with small houses and very kept gardens and fenced-in yards. It was a short cut through the gardens from the PX through housing and to the school. It has changed a lot. Thank SO MUCH for the memories. I only wish that I could make it back and see it all for myself. You have done a wonderful job of taking me back.

It was.. the gas place was not next to the high school.. it went to the Movie Theater first and then the Shoppette and then further down was the gas station. Between the High School and the Movie theatre was the road that went down to Kalb Elementary.. I know all this because I spent a lot of time skipping 4th period to go over there...
