when John wins his - in 2002, I think - the reaction by the rest of the cast is just as exuberant, particularly Brad Whitford (who told John he would win one the previous year)
And when John won his Emmy, the other cast members nominated in the same category - Richard Schiff, Dule Hill, and Bradley Whitford - were equally thrilled. That cast was a FAMILY - and when one person won, they ALL won.
Came here from the West Wing Weekly podcast which had Richard Schiff as a guest on it. I love how enthusiastic John Spencer was when Richard one. Spencer just seemed like an all around stand up dude. Schiff said he got into a trouble later because he forgot to thank his family.
The first episode of The West Wing I saw was In Excelsis Deo, where Richard Schiff was featured, and for which he won this Emmy. This was in 2014--I never watched the series when it aired. His performance was masterful, and the writing was, too.
He, Bradley Whitford and John Spencer all won their Emmys partly for Christmas episodes: respectively "In Excelsis Deo," "Noel" and "Bartlet for America."
Richard is equally great in THE GOOD DOCTOR. Episode "Tough Titmouse" from Season 2 contains finest work Richard has ever done - scenes with Holly Taylor will break your heart,
+jwelch5742 And 2. Facing off with Bartlet in the MS arc was amazing. Also 4 with Sam leaving and him getting writer's block...and 7 being cooped up like a caged animal watching the election from a distance. And also all the rest :)
Thank you so much for uploading. Richard's "Toby" was my favorite character on the show and I've looked for this from time to time and couldn't find it. Thanks again!
the West Wing gang always looked so supportive of one another at award shows.
Absolutely agree! Anytime someone succeeded, their joy for them was genuine.
They did look like a warm, supportive group.
I was also struck by how happy John Spencer seemed. Truly the world lost not only a great actor but a great person when he died. Rip
Carson Sheir Truly 🌹
The mark of a great person is sharing the joys of his beloved friends and family. At least part of it.

Spencer was the best!
I saw that too.He was amazing
John Spencer was so genuinely thrilled that Richard won. My heart can't take it.

@@pierrelongshanks yup! and Rick Cleveland!
Sorry, I’m now here because of Richard performance as Odin in god of war Ragnarok
You ruin my family my kingdom

I miss these characters and this show. I bet they still miss working together. The best ever.
John Spencer was always so damn happy for his cast mates to win.

Well deserved. A great group of actors. Excellent writing. And a beautiful theme song too.
Best odin performance a cunning trickster god

Richard Schiff had great acting on The West Wing in season one.

I think the best Toby episodes are Excelsis Deo and 17 People. The two of them together really embody everything about his character.
The quality makes this seem like it was filmed 40 years ago
The good old days of VHS

Johns reaction was the sweetest. 🥺
I came here after watching the good doctor. He is a great actor indeed.
“What do you even know of godhood”
lol was looking for god of war comments
Seems like a nice person. Couldn't possibly take over Asgard as Odin. No siree.
John’s reaction❤️ rip
he is the greatest i ever have seen
It is so happy to see the president hug Toby.
All of this makes me so happy
Odin
They did his character so dirty towards the end. Sorkin apologized.
Right? Felt like Season Five onward Toby was completely forgotten about.
The best odin
John Spencer RIP ❤️
look at him sprint up the stairs!!! precious
Odin was so good at fooling people that he won an emmy
Amazing job Toby
I know one of the programs he submitted was “In Excelsis Deo”
ODIN! Trust in the allfather🙏
What Richard said here about Aaron Sorkin is the God's honest truth.
If he says the snow is white, he's lying
Funny thing is that Jeff Goldblum very nearly got the part of Toby. It was down to Schiff and Goldblum.
It was Schiff and Eugene Levy.
@@a.ssvendsen8415 Imagine Goldblum in '17 People' 😂
i think i’m the one person who overlaps between fan of richard schiff from the west wing and fan of him from god of war lol
But can he defeat Zeus?
What day in 2000 did this air?
he even won a fucking Emmy?
damn odin i thought being the allfather was enough
No
Richard Schiff is a great actor in the West Wing.
Odin and Toby Ziegler have a very striking resemblance that goes beyond just being the same actor.
