The Butterball hotline, the Paul Revere knife, The funeral for the homeless soldier, CJ's woot canal, Lemon Lyman, Josh shooting, This is the finest TV Ive ever had the privilege to watch
Who could forget Martin Sheen's speech to God in the National Cathedral after Mrs. Landingham's funeral? ("Two Cathedrals") Absolutely riveting. That scene alone should have won him an Emmy.
The most memorable moment of the entire show for me not only for the brilliance of the acting and writing. The night that episode aired in Australia, in the last commercial break of the episode, a breaking news alert announced that a plane had flown into the world trade centre and there would be more information to come after the show.
Epic. Just epic. And then he smokes right in the middle of the Cathedral, drops the cigarette on the floor and grinds it into the ground with his foot.
You were great - you asked a simple question or two and just let Martin talk and you got the best. No interruptions and we , the viewers got the gold. Congrats.
I love the way Martin is just allowed to tell the stories. So often hosts push their personalities into an inverview which then diminishes the value. Well done Brad!
The West Wing repeats aired at like 9am on Bravo. My husband and I would have our morning coffee while we watched 2 episodes a day. It was the best time my Honey and I shared. He was a huge Democrat who had met JFK when he was running for office in 1959, and he knew all these terrific tales of politics spanning Decades. My husband is gone, but I still have The West Wing to remember him by.
I watch the whole series during the xmas holidays. Takes me about a week straight of sitting on my rear end all day till i go to bed, to get through it. It is well over 100 episodes. I think it is 140.
Thank you everyone involved in the WW for once and for all PROVING there is a market for intelligent television. I am not alone in thinking this was the best television show ever made.
My daughter Angelina was only 10 years old when she fell in love with The West Wing. Despite being a Filipina, she spoke and understood English perfectly. I bought the series on DVD. How could such a young person understand and appreciate such "complicated" English? It was beyond me. She has watched the series three times altogether. Now she is 21.
As a person living with multiple sclerosis, I found Martin Sheen's portrayal and more importantly Aaron Sorkin's writing with regards to multiple sclerosis to be very inspirational. After all, if Jed Bartlet can be the leader of the free world, while battling multiple sclerosis, I can certainly get through my own days with multiple sclerosis. Often times I go back and watch the episodes that specifically dealt with President Bartlett's battle with multiple sclerosis. I felt the trip to China was more realistically portrayed than much of what I had seen with regards to someone battling a chronic progressive disease, and what an exhausting day like that would look like, the toll working that long a day takes on one's body can be brutal! I also thoroughly related to his frustration when he tries to stand at the sink and do something as simple as brushing his teeth but he ends up falling. I have been there many times. This program was very empowering to me, and still is.
As much as I am overjoyed you can live with it well, the show's portrayal makes no sense. If a Republican researched the disease properly then they could show that he cannot keep up with the details and does not have the stamina. That is an election killer.
Hello Ruth - hope you are doing well. I was thrilled to see the MS story line. To me, it meant more people would be exposed to/learn about/interested in MS and I hoped that would mean more donations and research. I have been participating in MS Challenge Walks and raising funds for the MS Society for 21 years. When I started participating in the MS events, there were 3 DMTs (disease modifying therapies). Today, there are over 20. I was so excited for the exposure for MS. Wishing you well 🧡
What a beautiful perspective - brought a tear to my eye 🥲 While I don’t have MS, I do suffer from a chronic illness and I felt this on such a deeply personal level. Thank you so much for sharing this. All my love to you! ❤️
Holy crap. This is exactly what I've been doing, and i have seen TWW 10 times from start to finish. I don't know if that's a good thing seen in this context 😂. But It calms me in a certain way, watching intelligent people try to do the right thing, and combined with the dim lights it was filmed in. It feels like the show embraces me with warmth and comfort somehow, it really really works. 😊👍
Great interview. Martin Sheen is an American treasure. You know you've watched the show all the way through too many times when you know what details Martin remembers incorrectly.
THE👏🏻GREATEST👏🏻SHOW👏🏻OF👏🏻ALL👏🏻TIME!!!! I've watched it countless times and it never gets old. And the great John Spencer, what a phenomenal actor he was 💔❤️
"Principles before personalities." The West Wing offered that in every episode. Thank you Martin Sheen for this lovely remembering that you shared with us all.
Saigon. I'm still in Saigon. I'm here waiting for a mission. And for my sins, they gave me one. And when it was over, I'd never want another. I was going to the worst place in the world and I didn't even know it.
Every part of this show was amazing. The casting. Top notch. The writing. Wow. The crew - the camera style. Cutting edge. It all came together for an epic show. Just wow.
I have to ask, in this day and age, seeing what they have become, how are you still a republican? Not an attack, genuine question, because a modern Republican West Wing fan is a concept that confounds me.
I’ve never underestimated why people say this. The show isn’t political. It’s entertainment. Yes, the characters were democrats but the show itself wasn’t political. It was an hourlong drama of incredible storytelling. Nothing more.
@thatmanfred. “What they have become” is not nearly as ridiculous and dangerous as the left. West wing are fictional dems. There’s no such thing as being too far left now.
Don't forget Vinnick. I'm not a republican type, but he had honour and style. No reak dirty tricks. I mean: Do you remember the scene between Bartlett and him about church and state? It should be showed everywhere in the world to remind us how to discuss in a respectfull way.
the episode where he calls the Butterball turkey hotline is hilarious. He plays it so well. He's such a bad liar. He's trying to make up a fake name, and a fake job, and a fake situation. And it's so evident he's just the world's worst liar. Which actually kinda supports the character development of President Bartlett as well.
I STILL love West Wing, I have the series on DVD, & watching it again, along with Madam Secretary, actually helped get me through that 4-year trump fiasco.
I really felt I grew up with the west wing. I moved out of home with the first season on DVD. I was watching the end of season 2 the night of 9/11 Sydney time. I still watch it to this day.
Martin Sheen has always been one of my favorite actors. I could imagine the series with him only doing short appearances. My all time favorite series. If only our politicians behaved have as responsibly today, just imagine.
The host did a great job, didn’t interrupt and let the guest speak, that’s perfect in this situation. Omg I could listen to west wing stories all day. I watch the full season once a year.
I LOVED this series, and to this day, it will always be one of my all time favorite television shows..............AND I am STILL waiting to see Martin Sheen run for President of these United Sates. Just brilliantly acted and thoroughly enjoyed.
Martin Sheen is giving a wonderful interview here. I wish he’d talked about the episode that I find on TH-cam every Christmas…. First season…. Gloria in exchelsis? I think was the name. Anyone who’s watching this remembers…. Toby arranging the service for a forgotten veteran…. I’m a veteran, and have been to The Wall to honor those I knew and though I’m not particularly religious or anything…. I still weep every time I watch…. Mrs Landingham, who misses her boys, the children’s choir….
It has possibly the best two lines in the series? Toby if we start pulling strings like this don't you think every homeless veteran will come out of the woodwork? I can only hope so Sir.
Yes! I LOVE that the interviewer let him speak freely and didn’t interrupt him like so many interviewers do! It allowed him to really get into the conversation with depth and perspective that made each story all the more interesting! Fantastically done!
No one could play Jed Bartlet better than you! They took your soft spoken kindness and created a character that would become one of the most loved at the time. Thank you president Sheen!
Great interview. I love that he mentioned that John Spencer scene. My favorites were the disagreements Sheen and Spencer would have in the Oval. With either the Resolute Desk behind them or the seal on the carpet as the background. Really stellar acting. For anyone who loves Sorkin's writing, if you have access to a good AI chatbot, definitely ask it to write stuff as Aaron Sorkin. It's endlessly fun.
My favorite show of all time. Wish they made a couple more seasons. Would’ve been interesting to see how Pres. Santos (Jimmy Smits) worked with Sec. Vivick(Alan Alda).
It was completely unrealistic that he won. The fact the Vice-Presidential candidate is the guy who had a heart-attack is enough to lose that election. That and the fact Arnold Vinnick is so moderate that California could elect him (I believe it could as he was it's Senator.) and yet Conservative enough that Texas can. It makes no sense.
I am Brazilian, and we have just got cable TV at our home, when I saw my pre-teenage boys addicted to a TV show, that I thought it was quite complex for them to understand - in English with English subtitles - but that was it. I immediately got addicted too, it was a politics and history class for me, I was interested in how the US Government works, the inside of the White House, the characters in the Bartlet administration were my heroes. Later on we bought all the DVDs, I have them to this days, I can play them in my laptop with an external drive, and from time to time I watch some episodes. Good time were those! Martin Sheen, you’re a great actor, congrats for the fantastic job you did as a Nobel Prize winner and President Bartlet!
Rewatching all of the seasons of The West Wing for about the 15th time, I used to have them on all the time when I was at Uni, I wrote my dissertation to the sound of that show in the background, it has helped get me through the worst times and is my go to comfort show. Bring it back! lol
I have watched "The West Wing" 4 times all the way through, and what makes the show so great is the fact that it doesn't matter what Presidency, what global or national situation, "The West Wing" is consistently relevant in any political climate - Trump, Biden, Republican, Democrat, national or domestic emergency - it just fits. Watch the episode regarding Tularemia - mind boggling in relation to COVID.
One of my favorite series of all time. Love those characters! The best seasons were the first few written by Aaron Sorkin. I have all the DVDs and rewatch them from time to time. Great show!
Sorkin is a genius. I cannot get enough of West Wing. Its what we wish our government could be. Smart and truly for the people. Loved and still love it so much. Josh, CJ, Sam and Toby. Leo, Charlie and Jed. And the guest stars are fantastic too. I could go on and on..
I rewatch (especially during the previous administration) when I need to remind myself at one point we had a two party system that disagreed but treated each other with respect.
I was reading some of the other comments of people who have seen it 3 or 4 times and was starting to think I was a bit of an anomaly. I've watched it, start to finish, at least twice a year, sometimes 3 or 4, since it ended. So in 17 years I've watched it all in excess of 40 times. Thank goodness DVDs don't wear the way VHS used to! So it is nice to know I'm not alone! And if you ever play 'connect the actors' or 'connect the films' (think Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon), a good knowledge of the West Wing and it's myriad of guest actors that went on to be leads in their own series, such as Mark Harmon or Mary Louise Parker will give you one hell of an advantage.
I would love to meet Martin Sheen and talk about WW with him! I am just finishing my 17th time watching the series. The storytelling and character development is the best there will ever be. I notice something new every time I watch it.
My girls gave me the entire boxed DVD set of the West Wing. I can't tell you how many times those DVDs have been played. I don't have to be staring at the TV to see the scene and follow the story and conversations. The BEST show of all time.
In Oz, I was watching The West Wing on 9/11. Switched channel saw one of the towers burning, thought it was a movie & went back to the show. One of the best series ever
It's my favourite series ever. Every 5 years I rewatch. Much to the groynes of my family. When CJ is asked what is the most important topic to effect tge USA, after she leaves the White House. She says 'roads '. And had $10 billion budget to effect change on roads. ❤ Love it.
Our family absolutely loves this programme. Our eldest is word perfect on all episodes and can give the title based on a single conversation. When touring Warner bros studios she pointed out to the guide which had been Josh’s building from the steps outside, he had no idea😂
Always loved Martin Sheen’s work, but the West Wing is sublime. The writing and acting are first class. Oh how we want politics to be like that now, intelligent TV indeed. Great interview Brad
“It was a given to me by the personal sous chef to the King of… [Toby waves his hand] …auto sales in Fargo. Phil Baharrrnnnd.” One of my favourite scenes too!
The West Wing what is the best television show ever made. Even after Aaron departed the show, the actors had so much invested in those characters that they would not let them fail, and of course, the best episode of any television show ever made is Two Cathedrals. In excelsis deo would be second.
The WW is truly up there as one of the greatest shows ever. So compelling infact, when it came to Bartletts’ re-election, some woman in Maine I think actually turned up at her polling station wanting to vote for him. She was in good health and sound mind but believed what she was watching was factual.
I consider The West Wing in the top three best TV dramaz to come out of the USA, the script is brilliant as are the ensemble of great actors who bring the words to life. A series which not only keeps you hooked but you learn a lot on how American politics work. Or perhaps considering more recent years I should say it shows how American politics is supposed to work.
I'm a Republican and I love Bartlett! I love the show, it is my favorite and I have seen it so many times all the way through. I love the Butterball hotline episode! And I love finding out that a couple of those stories are true!!
The Butterball hotline, the Paul Revere knife, The funeral for the homeless soldier, CJ's woot canal, Lemon Lyman, Josh shooting, This is the finest TV Ive ever had the privilege to watch
Those were good spots weren’t they!
And psychics 😂
@@v3ndril If it was psychic's I would lead with that 🤣🤣

It was particularly good, if you, like me, learned latin at school.
That was the best episode of the whole 7 seasons in my opinion
The most memorable moment of the entire show for me not only for the brilliance of the acting and writing. The night that episode aired in Australia, in the last commercial break of the episode, a breaking news alert announced that a plane had flown into the world trade centre and there would be more information to come after the show.
His calling out the "Feckless Thug".
Epic. Just epic. And then he smokes right in the middle of the Cathedral, drops the cigarette on the floor and grinds it into the ground with his foot.
I love this man. Thank you, Martin Sheen. Your magnificent portrayal of POTUS Barlet in this unparalleled series is second to none. Bravo. ❤
The scene with CJ about pardoning the second turkey was absolutely hysterical. "CJ, I really have no jurisdiction over birds."
When he drafts him into military service 🤣
You were great - you asked a simple question or two and just let Martin talk and you got the best. No interruptions and we , the viewers got the gold. Congrats.
Watched every episode so many times - except one. Have only watched Leo’s funeral once because it breaks my heart. Sleep well John you are missed xxx
The episode when Mrs. Landingham is killed is the one I don’t like to watch.
I love the way Martin is just allowed to tell the stories. So often hosts push their personalities into an inverview which then diminishes the value. Well done Brad!
Thanks for noticing
Yes, very well done you! @@BradCarr_

I learned so much about politics, government, and friendship from the series.
He's right about Sorkin being a great writer. The West Wing and the newsroom were two of the best shows I've ever seen and nothing else comes Close.
My girls gave me the entire boxed DVD set of the West Wing. I can't tell you how many times those DVDs have been played. I don't have to be staring at the TV to see the scene and follow the story and conversations. The BEST show of all time.
I love that show. I hope they bring it back on reruns. I’ll come over with a new one. Very educational show.
Jed Bartlett is one of the best television characters of all time!! Thanks for an unforgettable performance Martin!
We are pet sitting in England and found that Channel 4 has it on-demand. So much for seeing England.
Two Cathedrals- my all time fave episode. Bartlet's speech to God.
Without any doubt in my mind, the single greatest TV series of all time.
In Oz, I was watching The West Wing on 9/11. Switched channel saw one of the towers burning, thought it was a movie & went back to the show. One of the best series ever
Never missed an episode.. loved the show, the character development and the stories..
Best of the best!
That man can talk! Love Martin Sheen. A fine actor with a fine heart.
Awesome video! I just rewatched all the seasons of West wing. The writing and acting still holds! Some of the best to do it!❤
I totally fell in love with The West Wing. Later I introduced my family to it and they loved it too.
One of the best TV shows ever! Brilliant writing and brilliant acting!
I don't know how old this clip is, but Marty looks pretty damned good for a guy in his 80s.
Absolutely the very BEST tv production I have ever seen.
One of the best shows of all time. Great stuff.
Martin Sheen, what a amazing man, and a honorable human being!
Still today, in my mind, the best show on television.
“It was a given to me by the personal sous chef to the King of…
[Toby waves his hand]
…auto sales in Fargo. Phil Baharrrnnnd.”
One of my favourite scenes too!
The West Wing what is the best television show ever made. Even after Aaron departed the show, the actors had so much invested in those characters that they would not let them fail, and of course, the best episode of any television show ever made is Two Cathedrals. In excelsis deo would be second.
Celestial Navigation
"Somebody's Going to Emergency, Somebody's Going to Jail" in my opinion.
I used to say that. Then Ted Lasso came along. I now have two favourites.
West Wing was one my favorite series of all times.
Love this video. Love West Wing. Love Martin Sheen. He's a good man and awesome actor.
The WW is truly up there as one of the greatest shows ever. So compelling infact, when it came to Bartletts’ re-election, some woman in Maine I think actually turned up at her polling station wanting to vote for him. She was in good health and sound mind but believed what she was watching was factual.
West Wing…..my all-time favorite series!
I absolutely adore Aaron Sorkin. I agree he is THE best writer ever...
One of the greatest shows of all time in my opinion.
The guy just isn't aging....we could reboot the westwing tomorrow
One of the FEW people in Hollywood I have any respect for
he was incredibly gracious through the interview
