I love that you love your dog children so much. It’s a shame in this day and age we can’t do this for all of our pets. City people, poor ones just have to let them go in an unloving way. Cremation is what we have done, and those little boxes are really expensive too. Huge market for pet urns. Thanks for this video!
Our local vet has a place they send the pets that is amazing. A place created by a family who realized that there was no wonderful place for the to lay at rest so they created this place and our vet sends.the pets their. They have a picture of the place and the name and it's everything you would want. They have places for burials and they have fields divided by years that they scatter the ashes of your pet. Just had the shocking loss of one of my cats this morning. He was only 7 years old. We think he had a heart attack from meds he has been taking for 4 years. Went to go feed, and he was gone in his bed. His sister sleeps with him there alot and she has always been timid and he was her rock, so she is struggling. I wanted to take him there.....but that's impossible since it's Sunday. We live in the country, so he has a very nice spot. But if we ever leave, it's going to be painful at the though he could be disturbed. He got to be in one of his favorite spots. But would have loved for him to be with his friends again.
What you did is wonderful, no harm to be ready we have life insurance for us they came out nice,, it's when it's time to use them that's the hard part, thankfully you have good family and friends to help. Thanks for sharing
never thought of it that way your spot on I just knew I had to give them a good resting place they have both been great dogs and when younger they were great bunny dogs to
By the way I love all my TH-cam friends, you and Andrew are making this pandemic lockdown less stressful and I love you guys like a brother for all you do!
Nothing strange about it, I think it’s really smart. It’s a really hard time when your grieving over a loved one to worry about things like this. No better time than right now I think, I wish I had done the same! Stay safe Dan and stay the way you are because you are a great man just the way you are!
My dog/best friend died yesterday. Thought we'd have more time so I never wanted to think about doing this until the time came. But having a job, wife, and kid.. working with the weather, you really don't have as much time as you wild like to do this. Once it happens you realize how quick you need to get things done. Took the day off work, and I'm needing to this today. Thinking of just using treated lumber and something simple with caulk, and wrapped in plastic multiple times to keep her resting easy. Thank for the video!.
What type of wood are u making those from is it a type of hardwood or cedar or pine somebody told me cedar would hold up the longest they said worms wouldn't eat at the wood I don't know if he knew what he was telling me to be truth or his opion
@JamesWalters-ib4dk I made mine from cedar pickets. Had a bunch sitting in the shed from when my fence was installed. Then I wrapped it in one of those big black trash bags that are thicker and made for construction debry. Hopefully it kept things dry and bug free. I probably could have used treated "ground contact" wood and would have been better, but it was abrupt and with work didn't have time to put a lot of thought into it or go buy materials. So I used what I had on hand. So as sad it is, it's nice to already have something made when the time comes.
This is one of the most beautiful and kind things I’ve ever witnessed. I find myself here because within the next week, I’m going to have to do the same. Thank you
I did the same thing. Building after a pet dies is really difficult. I built boxes ahead of time for three of our and just kept them in our basement until they were ultimately used. Well done.
Very Emotional build but it insures that your Babies have a place to rest. The Babies that my Dad had were also giving such a place. Thank You for Sharing the build with us.
I like these videos. Instead of someone with a $100,000 work shop and tools provided by sponsors, we’ve got a dude making dog coffins out of the kindness of his heart with his tools laying in the dirt. It’s just more my speed.
Your technique is spot on, sir... and the proof is in the pudding. Your corners match and fit tightly. Very nicely made vessels for your beloved pets to spend eternity in. Shows you really care. I liked the homey touch on the headstones too. We just need to work a bit on the terminology. Your "miter gauge" is a T-bevel. A miter gauge, in this context, is the sliding tool part of a table saw you set to make angle cuts. Your compass method allowed you to "bisect" that angle... split into two (bi) equal parts. Dissect is what you did to that frog in Jr. High biology class.
Thanks for sharing this very personal project, Dan. Those caskets are very handsome, made with love and care. I hope Homer and Maggie live a lot longer too,. They have already lived a lot longer than any dog I've ever had. At their age, you know their time is not as far off as you'd want it to be. I wonder if Andrew watched this video, given that Levi is really slowing down and his clock is ticking as well. As it is for all of us. Bless you and your family.
Beautiful woodworking! You are doing right by them! We lost our 15 year old lab two years ago and had to bury her in a cardboard box. Didnt know she was going to die, or i could have had one ready.
Yes, Dan, that's one of the hardest thing to do, losing those wonderful companions. I think this was very smart of you - I did something similar and had my canine pal watching me the whole time. The caskets came out beautiful.
Look at all the wonderful times ya'll had with your dogs, there worth every nail and stoke of the brush ? Sure enjoy watching people work together , ya'll make a wonderful pair in love like you guy's are .. See Ya Texas
I know it's a long time that this video was made but you should make human ones they be far better than those polished up boxes they call caskets made from a lot better too God Bless the work
I greatly respect what you’re doing here as I’ve done the same. For whatever reason though I never thought about the shape until just now watching you make these. I just assumed the same traditional casket shape as well but now that I’m standing back watching it it occurs to me the the traditional human casket shape is probably not the most appropriate one for dogs. Does anyone know what shape is best for a dogs casket?
Nice Very well done. May I suggest a small pillow and a blanket for a nice touch. When its time for my to girls to go it'll be hard. Yes they are family.
Dan, you are a very honourable man with the most sincere intentions and as you said, how gives a sh_t what anyone else thinks. Be safe young man. I’m praying for your 2 friends😑.
I just lost my two dogs within 16 months of each other,I know this seems strange but I live in Mississippi and times are very hard so I will be in the back yard right beside them someday.
Just turned the slabs to boards yesterday. Will build the coffin this week. We will be putting her down the following week. Tumors, cancer, Cushings and Hips She has been a great lab and had a life well lived. We will miss her
I got a ? For anyone that can answer this , I’m wondering how to measure a dog to make the box for him , the shape of this style coffin was designed for the human shape feet, head and shoulders etc , I want to make a box designed but just not sure how to measure to make it for my beloved 4 legged mate , he’s getting older to , I could figure this out I’m sure but wondering if anyone has done it and got some sort of method on how they do it. Thanks in advance .👍
my dog had almost 20 years and he die, coffin is weird for dog. - better is make a grave under a nice tree - tree can feed a protein and it will be good energy flow in nature
I thought I was weird to build a casket for my new wife 10 year old guinea pig and a headstone, took it out to Lake Mead and buried it in a wash. Nothing weird about it IMO
You always know when Dan Wheeler has being there, just look at the job site its littered with lumber and scraps on the ground lmao , hate to see you twist and break an ankle there Dan !

so sorry to hear of your loss i lost my old dog a few weeks ago and put him to rest in his casket
@@danwheeler5130 Thank you very much. Sorry for your loss as well. It isn't easy.

pretty touching for sure loved the background noises when building the rock wall ,,,,, spring is in the air
Really shows how much you love them! I hope you don't need the casket anytime soon and I hope all is well.

I feel for you. Its hard to see a dog go. Thank you for this.
It is soul crushing. It is better to have them ready as making them once they are gone is emotion wreckage

I KNOW HOW YOU FEELING. I LOST MY ONLY DOG , LAST YEAR AND I STILL REMENBERING HIM. HE WAS 11 .
I was actually wondering about that stone wall. Is it an old one you’re building on to, or the whole thing from scratch?
