Virgin foxhole devs: Planes can't be added, unreal engine can't have physics and scrooping is interesting gameplay mechanic. Chad foxhole players: I am going to make a mock foxhole in Godot game engine, just to show how planes could work, in a quater of a time devs took to make a truck trailer.
This is a really cool concept... but, the devs would basically have to redesign the entire map to accommodate for the height you would be able to fly up to and majorly increase the render distance for all players so you wouldn't just see the black void when your in a plane (or just make a loading screen whenever you enter/exit a plane). So I unfortunately don't think this will ever be added.
oh BROTHER. Seeing this comment in light of the new Naval update brings me some hope. They just redesigned the entire map's bottom of the oceans and rivers to accommodate the new submarines! MAYBE we WILL get planes someday afterall!

@@Osiris-Foxholeis not a big acomodation with submarines , because you don't need to put fish or large resources , is just black pitch and some height things , but with air update , is a lot different , because you need to see enemies , loading every item on map , or soldier , than you need to add guns to counter planes , is pretty dificult , and I can't detailate this for you , but in short terms , is a big game changer the air forces , naval forces are not a big changer because we had in the past some landings operations just with barges , now we just have big guns .
This looks very neat, however i think the main challenge you will have to overcome is that the pilot of a plane cannot see above him, so any enemy pilot flying at a higher altitude can easily kill him without the lower pilot knowing where the enemy is. Maybe when a satisfactory solution to this issue is found planes could be added
Might be flawed, but incidentally that would highly reflect American Boom and Zoom Tactics / Energy Fighting where the enemy night not have seen them coming, or been helpless even if they did.
To make this better fit in foxhole, i would make the planes a little bit slower. Also I would make the planes go in one plane that is not so high instead of 3D, and also add shadows so that the ground units can more or less see the airplanes

"planes go in one plane that" -> I was inspired by the new Naval update that the most skilled to handle the planes almost becomes "magical" people among regular soldiers, random or clanman... I hope I explained it well... "add shadows" -> will add later... working on some core stuff first... :)
Yes , this would be a great ideea , not sofisticated planes , because will apear a lot of problems with them , some minimal planes are great And an ideea to have separates maps , is good , because this will eliminate the anti aircraft guns , we will have just dog fights , a posibility of recon plane that will act as an moving observation tower , because we already have a lot of streamers that are showing the enemy map , and also the posibility of 2 accounts one in warden and one in colonial party is very high because some people are just too implicated in the game. (For me this is killing the fun) , and the paratrooping .... is a little dificult , because if they add this , it will be exploited , also problems to the transfers into regions if we will have separates teritories , GROUND/AIR , but , maybe with a priority for the paratroopers , like , to don't let them to queue in populated areas on the air regions , and some weight limit , because If they are very heavy they will die because of fall damage.
If dev don't want to separates map , than anti aircraft guns are needed and they can make them AI , to don't let players to exploit the view range of that gun. But also , I really think It would be dificult to have planes in foxhole on a battlefield , It would dramatically change the war , but this problem is for developers , have good days and I love foxhole , hope the best for you all.

In make it work with the top down format of foxhole, camera will be zoomed out, increased range in fog of war and elevated... make infantry invisible and only make structures and vehicles visible similar to when looking at a binocular in order to indicate that you are in "anti-air" mode... hope that explains the vision... ^_^ (copypasta from another comment with a similar concern…)
I also want to build a persistent war... both futuristic and warrior/fantasy setting similar to New World or Lost Ark (just the scale is too big ^^)... what are your plans for you project? I just don't have much time for game dev and I'm also waiting for Godot Engine 4 to be released before going further in making games...
if this was ever added , the intel of position of industry would become vital . bombers run to destroy industry countered by radars that spot them and fighters send to stop them .
I think instead of aim lines, you could implement a "look down sights" mode where your plane would automatically turn towards what you're pointing at. Maybe also with a way to toggle between ground and aiming at air targets. The crosshair could then still show how accurate you would be. Also controlling AA guns could be in a similar way. An option could also be to mark planes so the AA gun automatically aims at that height.
have the developers been interested in your work? Maybe they wrote to you or answered your letter. it seems to me that this is the best way to implement air in foxhole, I don't think they can come up with something better
This 3 Dimensions wound not work i fox hole, try only 2 dimensions, when you turne on the engie and can move the place slowly in the ground, afther that you and con for the take off zone and the plane will go outomaticaly up, and them it will stop im a fix possion, only being able to go left and rigth, and in more high tier planes they can go to plances even more up in the sky being able to change automatical to low fligth, mid, and high, and all of them give bonus a nothbing detected my radar and harder to be hit by AA flck.
Actually a decent idea to planes mechanics. I think it would be reallh hard to implement juste because of the insane industry of war of foxhole and making planes balanced would be real hard, but i like the idea
That was the initial plan to develop... but I felt it would be very stiff gameplay pattern... and I really want to have the potential of having a dive bomber in the game... i think even if cool, and on gameplay feels nice to fly like that. That it's not a good plan to add such a mechanic into foxhole. Players can't look UP, so it's impossible for them to tell what's going on, nor interact with planes on the battlefield. I think an already existing system like the "balistic Missile strike" approach would make 100% perfect sense to implement planes with Since you can re-modify an existing game Feature, make just like Refinery and Garage Locations, Air-Field ones you can capture. Then build the Planes, Load them at an airfield, and the AI piloted plane you build it, re-arm and re-fuel it, then order AIR STRIKES with radio backpack (which has very little use right now). or even Load an AI cargo plane just like in your video, and call for a Tank Air Drop or Jeep or Just Cargo in general, with radio backpack, would be 10/10 in my opinion to have that, no more 50 minutes driving it to the front, but you have an expensive and fancy way of delivering your things where you want them, logi players would love that
I'm not clear on how "exact cursor" would allow you to fire at a specific altitude. Your cursor still points at the ground; there's an entire range of valid targets and altitudes that all lie on the line perpendicular to your screen.
Exact cursor is where you hit exactly where your cursor points... the purpose is being straight forward with where you point is where you shoot... similar how to tanks work... it's intended for infantry to reduce snapping when aiming in a trench and the cross hair jumps around because of the crosshair yellow line elevation... I hope I explained it well... Mouse wheel is for a specific altitude... that's meant to include aiming at planes... 🙂

Maybe to start there would be bi planes that any small arms fire could get through (only requiring 150 bmats to make transports/logi planes, 200 bmats to make fighters, and 200 bmats +25 aluminum for bombers.
It's cool, but no - it's hardly possible without the support of the seamless world.. Within the framework of the octo-worlds, planes will quickly reach the edge of the map and rest against an invisible wall or fly along a frankly empty map) There are options for how this can be implemented, but this is a lot of work and will not be soon because the navy is coming)
Assuming proper counter-play mechanics (AA Weapons, Defences, AI Pillboxes, Bunker Garrison) it'd probably be fine imo. If it were just thrown in without proper counter-play then yeah it'd break it, but that's true of anything. I mean, irl we've got warplanes and frontlines very much still exist.

Sur air would be a fun gamplay but no one can refuse to see the risk involved with players/groups ignoring fronts to just bombe backline logie with impunity And breaking the game like this .

I think so long as there is AA, maybe even some AI controlled, it'd be okay if the planes were expensive ala trains as we have them now taking days to build it'd be fine.
this is overcomplicated and wouldnt even work, in your model 2 probable things would happen most likley: A: planes would be impossible to shoot down from the ground B: planes would be inredibly hard to controll Both of those are incredibly unfun so just hope they add requestable AI airstrikes and airdrops
Now show me how you would balance/manage AA and i will gladly hear you out. As much as i love how you've demonstrated this its objectively one sided without AA demonstration. You need both in order to validate the idea for a gameplay concept. But i love your idea i would just like to see your take on AA
Hi… AA is show on 0:50 but as of recording it was only available via the player shooting upwards and not by other means… I'm in the middle of updating the concept and adding flak as seen recently in Masters of the Air… :)

IDEA: The yellow height indicators can be shown visible to anyone nearby... friend of foe depending on distance...
Solution: You see his shadow or a sillhouette projected from above.
I see foxhole as a semi realistic game , so , you are changing position different from the sun , It would not be fun if you have a static shadow .

Not gonna lie its a pretty good idea, but i think the slow and fragile WW1 biplanes would work in foxhole because of the size of the map
Could be fixed by combining many regions for a sky map where there is only planes

The only problem I see is how small the map is other wise really cool

If aircraft are off map artillery for squads with a radio backpack... be pretty cool.
They would have to do aircraft like submarines. It would need to be airship type vehicles I feel and would require a submarine or above sized crew

Isn't better to have at start WW1like planes?
They are slower to fit in the small maps and more simple in functions.

who the planes Will work in the borders? Remember that a plane need to keep moving and many players Always have delay to pass (sleeping in the border)
With their new engine... hopefully they port foxhole then it will be possible... :)

Maybe to start there would be bi planes that any small arms fire could get through (only requiring 150 bmats to make transports/logi planes, 200 bmats to make fighters, and 200 bmats +25 aluminum for bombers.
And the fighters would come with 7.62 machine guns while the later planes would have 12.7 or even 20mm
You would still be able to damage the lats game planes with 7.62 and 7.92 (doing g little dmg) but 30mm flak and 12.7 would shred through them
For lvl 1 aa it would be an double 12.7 machine gun bunker thing and upgrading it to lvl 3 would turn it into a flak
I think switching to a 3rd persson mix with top view like men of war AS2 but for one model per player would be far better .
But thats juste my idéa.
