This reminds me of a family hymn sing we did for and with my mom, early in her battle with cancer. The Lord called her home 2.5 years ago. I miss her very much but know I will see her again in heaven. I grew up in a conservative Mennonite church. I wonder if this type of activity is more common among Mennonites and Amish.
Group singing is common with Mennonites and Amish, and interestingly, every Hutterites colony we’ve visited, which is quite a few, we always sang together with them like this. It is something we automatically do when we get together.
