Down the Cellar 47 - Bottoms Up

  • Tom returns to the cellar from a working hiatus (and not the grave) armed with some tiff drinks, stuffed boxes, snappy suspenders and smoky cigars.
    I'd like to thank each and every one of you who take the time to watch DtC, and am very grateful to everyone who takes more time out of their day to comment. In a perfect world there would be endless time for either Tom or Ob to engage with everyone, but alas the world is far from perfect.
    FAQ & A
    Q: I have a burning question about something in the video! What should I do?!
    A: An email sent directly to Tom is the best way to get your question answered, because while he most definitely reads each and every one of your comments, he hasn't quite gotten the hang of replying to them in the comment section, and is not likely to in the foreseeable future. Or ever.
    Q: I have a amusing anecdote, scathing criticism, or heartfelt compliment that I deeply need to express and I require / demand / long for a personalized response! What should I do?!
    A: See "A" above.
    Tom's email is: herrwittmann@gmail.com

      I'm sorry it's taken so long to answer your question, Felix. Tom reads these comments every day but he doesn't really know how to reply to them; sending him an email is the best (and really only) way to get questions answered.
      I just went to Tom's desk and demanded an answer, and after some thought he said his favorite pieces generally are Naval Honor daggers.

    Shouldn't these daggers that are in almost mint condition be in protective cases and not thrown in a box with a bunch of other daggers on top scratching them up?

    Love these videos. Wish I was a millionaire so I could afford to buy this stuff. Since I'm rather new to the hobby, can someone explain to me what RZM means or stands for? Thanks.

    • @that85guy96
      @that85guy96 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stands for ReichsZeugMeisterei. You will see the RZM letters capitalized in the name. It was basically the office that stamped their seal of approval on all things Nazi party related including but not limited to Uniforms, uniform accessories, equipment, edged weapons etc. Hope that helps!

      This knife , no dagger , is in Germany known as ,Fahrtenmesser'. Into 1980s such knifes had been used by Pfadfinder / boy scout groups, you could see this knifes in the show windows of german arms/ knife shops until about 2000, now rarely. So i think , there are falsifications, using ,Fahrtenmesser' blades from 1950s to 1970s.

    Calling a WWI German trench knife a "junk'er", i guess seeing all those polished daggers and swords every day makes you look down upon these trench knives that might look rough but they are original and in most cases been through hell. I collect German trench knives and photos where a soldier is sporting one on his belt, boot or hand.

    If I'm not mistaken the hole in the top of the rectangular object on that desk set is to hold an old school quill traditionally made from a molted feather. I'm sure it was more for looks than functionality as all other kinds of fountain pens had been produced by that time (including pens made by Montblanc, who opened their doors in Germany in 1906).
