T2’s Sound Editing was incredible, particularly the morphing sound of the T-1000. Well deserved Oscar.

THIS is how they should present all of the Sound Effects nominees: show how it sounded on set, then show the skills, then show the final product.

In the ending credits of movies we see people credited as "supervising sound editors" who are the people who go up on stage when the film won the Oscar in this category - again: "supervising sound editor". And there are other people credited as "sound editors". And there are still other people credited as "foley artists". If the foley artists make the foley (the noises and sounds), and sound editors make the editing for the sound, I wonder: What the supervising sound editors do after all? I don't believe they just supervise it, because this is not creating something. So, what the supervising sound editors do?

      Jesse Bolt
They contribute to the final product with their own work and supervise the work of the other sound editors. They also make sure everything is perfect before turning it in to the mixers.

They essentially do the same job as the director but only responsible for the sound team. Ultimatley if the director doesn't like something about the sound the supervising sound editor is the one who has to answer. If a sound editor creates a sound the supervising sound editor might say "make it sexier" or "make it thud more" or "make it brighter sounding" words to that effect. Ultimatley they are putting their name to it. And reputation. It's what it says it is, Supervising.

That's Brad Fiedel who composed this and Shirley Walker who arranged, conducted and
      orchestrated for T2.
