Very nice presentation! The problem I have with visual astronomy is that light pollution has become so bad and it just keeps increasing 😞 I used to be able to see the core of the milky way when it was near zenith just 3 years ago (I live in the southern hemisphere). Not anymore, now i just see the brightest stars and that's about it. I have a a 12 inch skywatcher dob which I originally got for visual astronomy but now I use it for EAA (it's a goto dob). Without the camera very few objects are visible now. But happily the planets looks the same so atleast we have that 🙂
Unfortunately, you are right. The whole planet is "bright", I am in the northern hemisphere where the situation is even worse. You have two nearby galaxies to observe, which is certainly an experience, we do not. The brightest is Andromeda which is seen as a nebula without a form (in fact it is the central part, everything outside it is not visible). A few more galaxies are at the limit of visibility and that's all. I envy you in the sky :)

Light pollution is a real problem but you are lucky to have your 12-inch goto!
