I thought the lining looked good until I saw the replacement,it looks outstanding and as if it was the original. I hope people appreciate the amount of work, experience and talent that goes into the replacing of the lining.
I agree with everything you did and it looks fantastic! ❤ I'm only going to mention one point about the labels. Yes sew the original labels back in but I think we might think about adding your own label too! Why not you have added to this coats history ! ❤
Loved watching you do this! I bought my daughter a heavy wool coat that had a label showing it was made in China in 1939!! But it didn’t have a lining or hood so I bought fabric to line it, and a good quality second hand hoodie in a matching colour. I lined the coat, making the pattern to fit, and added the hood from the sweatshirt as well as the cuffs inside the sleeves. That was 15 years ago and she still wears it!
Having just replaced a 35 inch zipper in 'foul weather gear,' I have some small appreciation of the amount of work. Another well presented, well narrated video. Thanks. YVR
Excellent video, as always! Your step-by-step commentary is clear and thorough. I love your upbeat presentation. You make it look so easy, but I know your expertise comes after years of experience. Thank you for this video!
Beautiful work. I would like to see always do the sleeve cuffs properly. Sew the underside with the liner coming out the hand then bring the liner through and sew it back. Make the sleeve ends look clean! Arm going in and out; with the seams exposed; it will unravel and look ratty pretty quick.
AMAZING. No way would I have tackled this project. Viewing your video makes it look so easy. Thanks for the encouragement. I think I will practice first on my grandchildren jackets. Well done.
Always like your videos 😉. I have three lining replacements in my “altering basket”, one belonging to my sister who wants to learn lol! But wait…spring is here …happy to procrastinate 🎉 love the big smile on your customer, that coat is a great find.
I really enjoyed watching and learning from this video as well as all the other videos you have made. Today, making simple envelope pillow cases while watching your videos. Thank you 💕💃🏻
I’m so glad to have found your channel! I hope you’ll consider doing a video on altering an armhole that is too small. ~ I recently purchased a beautiful sleeveless dress at a thrift shop, but when the previous owner altered it, she cut off the excess seems. Any tips on altering this to make the armhole bigger? I’d really appreciate any tips you can provide me. Thank you for all your helpful videos! ❤
@@DowntownTailoring I think I’ll try practicing on another dress or top first. Unfortunately I’m not the most talented person when it comes to sewing, but I’ll give it a try! Thanks so much for such a speedy reply! Much appreciated!! 🥰
Would love to know a good source for that wonderful, thick, flannel backed satin lining. I have some in a coat that I plan to refashion, it is over 30 years. Old, and a good melton wool. But my searching has yielded a kasha lining that is thin and worthless for such a coat, just as your customer saw in this wonderful coat. Beautiful. Would be happy to order worldwide to get my hands on some yardage for a different coat.
Hi. Here you go the link. It's cotton backing. It's very good. www.cleanersupply.com/tailoring/garment-construction-notions/lining/heavy-backed-satin-lining-60/#sku=lng202br
Ottawa is the 7th coldest capital city in the world. Not the coldest, sorry :) Top 6 are Ulaan-Baatar (Mongolia), Astana (Kazakhstan), Moscow (Russia), Helsinki (Finland), Reykjavik (Iceland), Tallinn (Estonia)
Oops! Lol I may have meant that metaphorically out of frustration 😂😂but that’s great to know. Also, wowow I cannot imagine how cold it must feel in those cities!
It's worth doing if it were a legitimate, necessary repair. For the owner to want to replace a lining because the colour is perhaps too "pinkish" is nothing more than vanity. I see it as misguided.
Hi. I'm sorry I didn't explain it well because of the editing. The pinkish color had a kind of ombre like it was stain. If you see it carefully you can see it the minute 2:00 . Hope this helps.
The smile on the client's face is worth a million!
He was very happy 😊

This is true. These thoughts have been in my mind. Maybe you just inspired me to add my own alterations label too! Thanks so much for the idea 😊

So very encouraging! It is rare to see this difficult job demonstrated and explained so well

Uffff! 35" zipper. That's a big job. Thanks for watching 🥰
That was very worthwhile! That dufflecoat is for life

Glad it was helpful!

You are so welcome! Happy sewing 🥰
Well done! It looked a lot better with the dark lining, I'm too lazy to change a lining unless it's damaged though.

Yes! These coats are hard to find. Cheers 🥰
Yes of course. Repurposing sonething and customizing it is the epitome of style.
Great timing thanks!! I’ve just been asked to change the lining on someone’s jacket. Thanks for the tips and tricks ❤

Will do! But in the meantime, consider scooping the lower part of the armhole or insert a wedge. Cheers 😊

This was great! Thank you!
Hopefully 1 day I can be almost as good as you. But I'm just getting to learn my old thrift store sewing machine .😁👍
You are so kind! You can do it. I can assure you I have zero talent for sewing, but a lot of practice. Happy sewing 🧵

How much does it cost?
Don’t have the price on top of my head but it’s around 225.
Cheers 🥰
Thank you! It's sad that it's cheaper to buy a new one these days. Just like microwaves. No one fixes or recycles anymore.@@DowntownTailoring
