'It's good to be alive', indeed. You have discovered the phenomenal Emma Kok. It's not only her spectacular vocals that impress so much, but her grace and poise on a big stage in front of thousands of people at age 16 that is truly impressive. This young woman knows no fear. Her level of confidence is extraordinary. Emma is a born performer. For her, the stage is her living room. As she said herself, this is where she is free. Thanks so much for reacting to this beautiful song, 'Dancing on the Stars'. There is magic and mystery behind the origin of this song that I will let others relate to you. Suffice to say that the coming together of Emma and the song was ordained in the heavens. Thanks again. All the best.
Yes, Emma is a very special singer. Her light is at the same level that stars which dance alongside her 😊. This song will be beside me for many years. Her voice is beyond any doubt. I admire her as a singer and also as a human being. She is a warrior and many times she helps me to overcome the life difficulties. She deserves all the success in music and life. I hope some time we are able to understand the innocents suffering, if that has some sense. That's my humble opinion. Thanks a lot for supporting her. Good luck👋
Thank you for this emotional reaction , we went to the concert of Andre Rieu at Maastricht , right in front of the stage at about 35 meters distance. Just as Emma started singing, an emotional bomb exploded in the square with the song DANCING ON THE STARTS and afterwards VOILA which earned a standing ovation for several minutes. Her beautiful voice touches your soul with the support of the orchestra, an evening to remember for a livetime. Also think that the audience love her mental strength with her illness and the loss of Emma's girlfriend Angela on May 5, 2023 ( th-cam.com/video/0nIpN86mw6E/w-d-xo.htmlsi=qws5Z_xKe4mVi4sc ) for the performances of volia last year
It is good to be alive... A few words from the lyrics of Dancing on the stars.. Then to think that a few days before this admission she had to undergo a painful procedure in the hospital. A procedure that has to be repeated every 3 to 4 months. It is renewing the feeding tube to the stomach which is normally done under anesthesia but Emma does not want that because of the tubes in her throat during the anesthesia which damage her vocal cords... Even now it went wrong and the sensor tube ended up in the wrong place which resulted in an hour instead of a quarter procedure which was clearly visible during the rehearsal a day before the start of the concert series where Emma appeared on stage wearing winter clothes. This shows a strong and powerful Emma.
When Emma can sing with all her heart "It's good to be alive", despite all the daily challenges she has, just to stay alive? Well, then (in my book) she is a real champion. And apart from that: what a vocalist we have at our hands here. This is "superiour singing". And a big shout out to André Rieu as well: 1,5 year ago, he pledged to do everything what is in his power to make it possible for Emma to make her dream a reality. And wow: he is a man of his word: Emma is on tour with him and his orchestra (in 2025 as well!!), and thanks to him Emma will have her own show with a symphony orchestra in the Royal Concerthall in Amsterdam on 21 October 2025: When a very happy Emma announced it the show was SOLD OUT within 3 hours(!). I have seen a few interviews (only in Dutch without translations in English) with André and Emma together: when you see the chemistry and the respect between the two you can't help to feel emotional. And that's even without Emma singing.... By the way: Emma's mother is always nearby to give Emma all the support and care she needs. And André Rieu (by the way: he is 75 years of age!!) and his orchestra are forming a protectionshield around her: they really love her. So no worry about her well being.
Today at 5pm (CET) Emma announced her very own concert for October 2025 at the Royal Concert Hall in Amsterdam. At 7pm Emma appeared on the 'Carrie on Friday' show on Dutch TV to further announce the news. After she was interviewed she sang John Lennon's 'Imagine', by the time she finished singing the concert was fully sold out! Here is Emma from this evening singing 'Imagine'; with TV quality audio / video - its magnificent. Plus, along with other first class musicians, her brother Enzo accompanied her on violin; how cool is that. th-cam.com/video/xpAIqyDybhk/w-d-xo.html
FYI…This song was written 6 years ago but never released. The composer wanted it to be her song. Like you I’m moved every time I hear her sing knowing what she goes through every day just to be able to sing makes it very special. Thanks for sharing with us.
12 months ago, Emma walked out on to Andre's stage in Maastricht to sing their version of Voila, that was the first ever performance of that version, and her first ever performance on Andre's stage, in front of 12,500 people, and although it's not been said in as many words, it was the realisation of her dream that she'd sung 12 months earlier, the writer has written two other songs in recent years for Emma, LAAT MIJ EEN VLINDER ZIJN , let me be a butterfly th-cam.com/video/jAsjpnpGY2M/w-d-xo.html was the first, where Emma so deeply expresses her aching desire to be something different, to live a normal life, at one point she sings the words, 'If only for a day, or even for a count of 10, I just want to live as another', she is desperate to be free of the constraints and limitations of gastroparesis, she wants desperately to be the emerging butterfly that's coming out of the long period in the cocoon and is about to soar into the heavens, to fulfill it's destiny, and soar free, above the limitations that it was used to, crawling on the leaves, now, it's going to soar, and mentally, that was what Emma did that first night singing Voila, she was soaring above that audience, the orchestra, and delivering the performance of her life At the end, as she turned to Andre and threw her arms wide, effectively saying without words, 'How was that?', she already had her answer, you see it in the smile after the last note, she knew she had absolutely nailed it, and she's been getting standing ovations every night since, and now, having been with Andre for the following 12 months, she's delivered stunning performances everywhere she's been singing, but she's done so much more, Andre drew that young girl out of her cocoon, and the New Emma that emerged, the strong, vibrant, capable, confident and dynamic young woman that was ready to be launched into orbit as a new singer, she well and truly made her mark that night, and then, exactly as we knew she would, she's spent the year with Andre and the orchestra listening, watching and learning from the cream of the cream, and now, she's putting into practice the new techniques that she's been discovering as she's been able to be gently and wonderfully stretched to deliver more by Andre's encouragement, as she spoke her opening words, so beautifully, so clearly and so well in her third language, the timing, the inflections, the pauses and the emphasis was perfect, before she sang a note, she had that entire audience in the palm of her hand, and then she sets about destroying them with the vocal explosions that she delivered every time she went into higher register with such power and clarity. When you watch it several times, you can see it coming, there's the hint of a smile, her lip curls, and a vocal explosion devastates everything within earshot, and that's before she then adds in the key change, and those incredible belting top notes that seem to go on for ever, she has well and truly learned how to get the best out of her voice, her frame and her emotions, and when they're all wrapped together, and surrounded by the wrapper that is the orchestra, they are a devastating package that can do nothing other than captivate and thrill the hearts of everyone that hears it, she truly has arrived on the platform of the highest levels of stardom, if we couldn't see her singing, and could only hear that voice, you'd be hard pressed not to think that she's been singing at a professional level for 20 years or more, and yet here she is singing like this at the still tender age of 16, absolutely and completely stunning and sublime, and yes, Andre has also put his showmans experience into the whole effect, with the dress, and the jewels, Emma is the complete package, and in so many ways, she IS his princess, a real life star, and it's very evident that he is incredibly proud of what she's capable of delivering. It gets better, as if this song wasn't enough, in recent days, she's done a concert in Amsterdam that opened up the winter season of Music award events, and it was the chance for Emma to reprise an event she's going to be appearing at in January, a Disney concert in the Ziggodome in Amsterdam, and the advance warm up she did for the Music awards was beyond stunning, beyond sublime, she showed that if her health issues didn't restrict her so much, she truly could be a Disney princess as well, the absolute command she had of that stage, and the performance, it was a perfect demonstration of just how much she can take the stage in her hands, and make it seems like she's been performing on it for a lifetime, she is so much in control, and able to use it to deliver a performance that would be appropriate to a major film or similar, if the opportunity were to be there for her, once again, she's using everything she's learned with Andre to put together a performance that is has so much pure class and technique to it, and right at the end, as she hits another belting top note, it's so evident that she is absolutely in control, the power of her singing and the emphasis of her arm as she closes out that incredible note, she makes it look so effortless, it's beautiful to see, and I am sure you will enjoy watching yet another top class performance from Emma. It's on TH-cam, th-cam.com/video/rhALa-baZGA/w-d-xo.html It's not her first Disney song, over a year ago, in her own home studio, she recorded another Disney film song, from 'The Little Mermaid', the track 'Part of your world', th-cam.com/video/itxs-aNyRJY/w-d-xo.html Emma recorded this because it'a another aspect of her desperate desire to see change, to move out of her life and into another world, which is what Ariel in the film is also desperate to do, to leave the water and walk on land, a completely different existence, and that very much resonated with Emma, her own circumstances are so restrictive, so regimented, she can never just abandon the pumps that are keeping her alive, but tie her to 22 hours of every day attached to her, the equivalent of a boat anchor on her shoulder where ever she goes, she so desperately wants to be free of them. The only thing that can stop Emma now is her health, and that's why I am going to repeat my normal appeal to everyone listening or reading, if at all possible, please make a (regular) donation to Emma's foundation, who are working to find better treatments, or ideally, a cure for the illness that at the moment has no cure, and also can have devastating implications for sufferers, many of whom have taken their own lives as a result of the intense pressure and stress that the discipline of living with gastroparesis imposes on them. I know from recent social media posts, she still finds the unrelenting daily limitations of tube feeding incredibly hard to cope with at times, despite that she's loving the singing with Andre, which she regards as her therapy. She posted some heart breaking photos and comments from her holiday in Portugal, having to use her wheelchair after a time swimming, even then, at a time when the family were relaxing and enjoying a break away from their normal lives, Emma had no relief, no escape from the mental and physical pain of having to live with the numbing discipline of the 22 hours every day with the pumps attached to her, her ongoing lack of stamina that hugely limits and impacts on her life and desire to be free, and she never talks about the physical pain that so often is a side effect of the failure of her stomach to properly process the contents, or the indescribable pain of the procedure to replace her feeding tubes, which she endures every 5 months, without anaesthetic, to avoid any risk of damage to her voice. Her most recent change of stoma and feeding tubes (Her Mickey button) happened only 3 days before the first Vrijthof concert In Maastricht in July, and it went wrong, and took well over an hour compared to the normal 20 to 30 minutes, a video of the rehearsals the next day made it very evident that she was still suffering, she had to wear a winter coat to keep warm, and this procedure has to happen every 5 months. Emma's foundation can be found at gastrostars.nl Please, if at all possible, join me in making a (regular) contribution to her foundation, to enable them to help patients like Emma, and research this awful disease that has affected her from birth, and required her to be tied to the pumps and feeding tubes since she was 9 MONTHS old, for 22 hours a day, hopefully, the work of her foundation will find a cure. Please also be very careful if you post or respond to anything from Emma on social media, her increased visibility has resulted in significant numbers of bad actors creating fake accounts, and looking for money to fund 'special operations', or to get access to fan web sales or VIP event tickets on payment of a significant initial membership fee, they are ALL fake, the ONLY valid web site that supports Emma and others like her is the gastrostars site, and she NEVER makes private message appeals for donations or support, and NEVER sends private messages or similar asking you to make contact, or log on to an external site to claim the wonderful ticket you've won, they are all fake and fraudulent. One of the main people in Gastrostars is a surgeon who has a lot of experience in treating gastroparesis, and she is not only a surgeon, but also suffers from the same disease herself, to the extent that as a result of her condition worsening, she's had to leave her role in the hospital, and she is now dedicated to the foundation, and working to help find possible new treatments, or even better the cure that will free people like Emma to live a more normal life, rather than be tied to the feeding pumps for so many hours every day. It will be so good if the work of Emma's foundation can lead to a better treatment, or even a cure, which will free her to do more singing, and it may be people here who make that possible.
@B-Drags-Den she is, I am still trying to understand how she finds the mental strength to stay so positive, I have never seen her have a bad day. We also need to give a massive shout out to the rest of her family, their support has been amazing, their courage in letting Emma go all out for her seemingly impossible dream has been a major factor in her success. Her future could be amazing, I for one will be watching with interest to see what happens.

Wrong information from your side, or do you meant 6 years before she was born. The song lay on the shed all the time until Emma found it
12 months ago, Emma walked out on to Andre's stage in Maastricht to sing their version of Voila, that was the first ever performance of that version, and her first ever performance on Andre's stage, in front of 12,500 people, and although it's not been said in as many words, it was the realisation of her dream that she'd sung 12 months earlier, the writer has written two other songs in recent years for Emma,
LAAT MIJ EEN VLINDER ZIJN , let me be a butterfly
th-cam.com/video/jAsjpnpGY2M/w-d-xo.html
was the first, where Emma so deeply expresses her aching desire to be something different, to live a normal life, at one point she sings the words, 'If only for a day, or even for a count of 10, I just want to live as another', she is desperate to be free of the constraints and limitations of gastroparesis, she wants desperately to be the emerging butterfly that's coming out of the long period in the cocoon and is about to soar into the heavens, to fulfill it's destiny, and soar free, above the limitations that it was used to, crawling on the leaves, now, it's going to soar, and mentally, that was what Emma did that first night singing Voila, she was soaring above that audience, the orchestra, and delivering the performance of her life
