I have a 51 cub that I purchased last year, used it all last winter for plowing. Mine came with wheel weights all the way around. Worked great until we got freezing rain before a snow storm, threw chains on and it never missed a beat. One thing I've learned with mine, split the brake pedals so you can ride the right brake when it starts spinning. Most of the weight is on the left so it's usually the right side that spins.

Your having too much fun. I lived in Michigan near Lake Huron for 40 years. Had a Farmall A, an Oliver 66, and a A-C XT 190. Plowed lots of snow. After one winter of plowing out the driveway for 30 days in a row. Sold everything and moved South. Plowed snow one time in 14 years. Now I sit and watch you guys plow snow. Nice little tractor and great videos. thanks.

Plowed with my great grandfathers 51’ since I was born in 84’. It was retired from farm work when he passed in 77. It was officially retired from active service in 2013 when I got my 30hp 4wd Kubota. I restored it last year and it wears a sickle mower now and I cut 3acres of pasture with it twice a year. Other than that she enjoys going to shows and just cruising around now.

I have an early '50's "100" AKA newer super A. Front loader, and recently installed an old "Dual" mini backhoe, use it mostly for lifting, not digging. "Dual" is the forerunner of the modern Woods products, who manufactures many of the ones for present compact tractors. I mount a very old Meyer blade which I've had (used then) from the mid 70's. Even then it doesn't have enough power for the kind of heavy wet snow we get up here in the N end of Idaho. I BET WHAT YOU ARE PLOWING is quite light snow. When I was a "kid" my Gramps had a cub with the lever type accessory lift. He was old then, and I cannot imagine trying to deal with that thing. Seems like the blade only lifted a few inches.
At the time our family tractor was an old Farmall "regular" to which Dad had installed belt drive hydraulics, a great working blade, built a front mount buzz saw, and installed a flywheel in the gap between transmission and clutch---for an old Ford starter motor. I've hand cranked that monster more times than I can count.
I'm 74, The "Regular days" were about 1957--68.

The Cub did a good job. It would be great to have chains before the next snow. Chains are something that is better to have and not need, than to need and not have. And it does well without them, you may not need them. Can you get 10W low ash engine oil? That will be much better in winter as 30 is too stiff when it's cold.

You should have changed your oil during a nice day in the fall. You should also put fluid in the rear tires and put the chains on before it snows. It's no fun trying to put chains on after a big snow storm. And you'll never get them on after you get stuck. You'll be looking for something to pull the tractor out of the snow.

BOOM! Light snow lol. You guys get pounded. We had a little snow, but not much. Less than an inch. That cub does such a great job it's a wonder they quit building them. Coldest November I can remember. The claim global warming, but I just don't see it. I've been hearing it for 50 some years.

    • @FarmallFanatic

They quit building them because there was no money in building a tractor that lasts forever

Nice plowing. Was wondering if you would put weights and Chains on. Was also wondering if tires were loaded. Seemed to work pretty good. If you had of played with the right hand wheel brake, do you think it would of come out easier ? When you were stuck trying to back out. Just wondering. Nice looking tractor and sounding. Love the gear sound of old tractors.

Im a cub sno plow veteran can say 1st you need chains as theres very little weight on rears. 2nd cub has no power to push any amount of sno but is better than plowing with oxen. I now plow in a john deere 4455 200hp heated cab with a loader and havent missed my cub

Great little tractor! Can you unlock the brake pedals and tap one to move the power to the opposite wheel? If so, that might help if you get stuck. Glad we don't have all that snow!!

Can u put your carryall in the fast hitch and lay some off your suitcase weights in it for added weight untill you can get some wheel weights?

When I worked at an IH dealership, we had one customer with a Cub Lowboy, with an under deck mower. In the fall, we would remove the mower and put on the front mounted snow blower. The blower was so heavy, the rear tires spun easily. We added a rack to the rear, and hung two suitcase weights on the rear. Weight problem solved.
