Problem is that impeachment is a political process and does not imply removal or indictment. It's basically a slap on the wrist, it's only being done because the constitution only mentions impeachment as an option. The founding fathers never conceived that the president would ever be a life long con artist criminal.

I don't think anyone expected impeachment to be successful so long as the Republicans control the Senate. I'm sure that the impeachment was started as late as it was to drag over the election so that the dishonesty of the Trump administration and the clownish defenses of the Republicans would dominate the news cycle through the campaign though there is the danger that republican supporters will just tune everything out to support their personal cognitive bias. It would take a democratic control of at least the House and the Senate in 2020 for a successful removal of Trump either through election or impeachment. The removal of Trump is up to the American people.

It didn't take quid pro quo. Asking for the investigation into a political rival was enough on its own. Everything before was most definitely NOT acceptable. "Quid Pro Quo" has just stuck in the public's mind. If by everything before you mean Trump's actions since his election - many things were not acceptable and many Dems were itching to start impeachment hearings, but Nancy Pelosi is a brilliant strategist and she insisted that they wait. She knew that if they had started earlier, public opinion wouldn't have been behind the move; but once the Ukraine affair surfaced, they had what they needed - they literally had no choice but to proceed. Pelosi knew the American public had to understand the seriousness of the behavior and the need for enquiry, otherwise Repubs would have just called the whole thing a witch hunt.
Thanks again Stephen Colbert, for keeping me sane through this.

Honestly I think she isn't, but it's fair to say others would be.
While yes that sounds cool to say. It is in no way the proper response to make. For the two following reasons below.
1)He is the President of The United States and is live tweeting his own impeachment hearings. In order to attempt to discredit and intimidate the witnesses. By saying you don't mind him doing so. You are making it seem as if what he is doing isn't a big deal. When in reality it is a huge fucking deal and very dangerous. It should shame everyone in the country to watch him do this. It is a disgrace to the office. It is a disgrace to the country and everyone in it. By normalizing it or insinuating it is no big deal. You are being a part of the problem.
2)Regardless if you think Trump is a clown. He is still the President of the United States. He has an immense amount of power to destroy his critics. Which he has shown he will gladly use as much as possible. One of his biggest weapons is his supporters. A good size chunk of who are genuinely crazy angry violent people. That have shown they will believe anything Trump tells them. Treating anything he says as if it is coming from god. Regardless if Trump may not actually respond with actual violence. He knows perfectly well that when he does and says and tweets stuff like this. There is every chance one of his deranged supporters will take it as a green light to attack. Doing everything from sending death threats to doxxing to actually physically assaulting to very possibly trying to kill them.
You're the best Stephen with Seth a very close second! Without you and others to "lighten things up" a bit, life would seem a lot gloomier.

Here’s a pet peeve tangent: A weird amount of people seem to think it’s John Williams, I think because of the French horns and use of themes and motifs, which are very Williamsy. But it’s so good. 😭 It sucks when the guy who figured it out gets passed over, when people just assume it’s Williams.

But some of those are used so often that it dilutes the impact. Theoden’s quotes are less used enough that they really... man, they hit! Sometimes in these situations it’s hard to decide if you go funny or iconic or something that rings with truth, but the “reckless hate,” thing has come back to me several times since I saw it, so I’d say you picked correctly! I’m glad to know that Tolkien is still being consumed and celebrated by people.
