  • Here's a look into the Abide Bible in the New English Translation (NET). This is an excellent Bible for daily devotions and highly recommend you check it out for yourself.
Thanks to Thomas Nelson who sent this Bible to me in exchange for an honest review.

I use the New Interpreter's Study Bible w/ Apocrypha in the NRSV and the NET Full Notes Edition for answers to translation questions. I have a wide variety of Catholic, Orthodox & Protestant Study Bibles, but I make all my personal notes in the New Interpreter's Study Bible. Being a Latinist, I also frequently use the Weber-Gryson Fifth Edition of St. Jerome's Latin Vulgate translation of the Greek and Hebrew, and Pope St. John Paul II's Nova Vulgata 2nd edition of 1986 into Classical Latin. Yes, there are multiple Latin editions just as there are multiple English editions.
The NET Full Notes edition is very valuable and (as intimated above) I use it frequently for word translation lookups, but sadly it lacks the seven Deuterocanonical (Apocrypha) books which Protestants rejected in the so-called Reformation of the 16th century. These books include Judith, Baruch, Tobit, Wisdom, Sirach, 1st & 2nd Maccabees, and the Greek portions of Esther and Daniel. I wish an NET Full Notes edition came out for Catholics and Eastern Orthodox. There's a big market with them: 1.2 billion Catholics and 300 million Orthodox worldwide - I'll bet 20% of them are English-speaking. Therefore, while I am really tempted, I probably won't get the Abide Bible until NET includes the missing books that were determined to be Holy-Spirit-inspired by the Church Councils of Carthage and Rome in the late 4th century AD when the Church resolved what books would be in the Canon of Sacred Scripture and what would not be. That said, the NET Abide Bible looks (from this video) like a good investment for those currently without a daily Bible reading program, and even with just 66 books (not the full 73), I encourage that. NET's work is generally outstanding.

Yeah, I'm not sure if you know that the RSV is going to be printed by EvangelicalBible.com and it might have the Apocrypha added to it. I've never personally read the Apocrypha but I may this year, from your reply.

That's awesome! I'd like to get your thoughts on it after you've spent some time with it.

The cover, ribbon, gilding, and color combination is sharp! I see you are a spiritual director. How did you find your way into that? Seminary? Friends? Always interested to know since it is a distinct vocation.

I do offer spiritual direction regularly. I went to Fuller Seminary but received training for SD from another institution. How I found my way into it is a long story. Basically God showed me I needed to receive spiritual direction during a very trying time. I am a conservative Evangelical Christian so I do find myself disagreeing with some of the tools of other Spiritual Directors used.

@@joesbibles5636 thats great. It is near impossible to find an evangelical Christian who knows the craft, thats why I asked. We need more because it is invaluable, and I think many people Christian included are so disoriented, some prof direction is needed! 😇
